Radar is so advanced know that by the time you fire on your enemy you will be miles away befour they get hit! The jets of the future will be multi attack jets. Air to Air and Air to ground. What makes the US military Unique is its combined arms approach. In battle they might use F-35, A-10, Apache helicopter, supported by Tanks, CIA and special forces on the ground
I'm quite convinced of the superior design features of the F-35 in terms of stealth, information superiority etc. compared to the F-16. But when you look at the price, no one can afford them in fufficient numbers anymore. If each western fighter is 4-5 time the cost of its predecessor, in a few decades we simply can't afford air power anymore. Especially, when Russian planes cost a fraction and come very close to western abilities. Don't put all our cards on the F-35!

Gotta have in mind that this plane they can "mass-produce" the platforms, then make it more usefull for many more purposes (navy-military-surveilance, navy-military-attack/defence, bomber, combat, carrier spesifications like hover lift-off... you name it...) In reality the F35 is capable to do many things, bombing, dog fighting, and ground support. But it can't do any of them well. It has a tiny payload compared to other bombers. It cant turn in dogfights and sadly electronics will not will the battle, it depends on the pilot. For ground support its too fast to effectively support troops, and it has a HUGE fuel payload, not to mention that it can be penetrated by an average assault rifle. Its a nice thought but we need to stop funding this project

@69erkcd Uhh my brother is an F-22 pilot in Alaska and he flys 4 to 5 days a week for 1 to 2 hours each flight and he and his squad spends all there free time studying. So id say there getting there flight time. But then again everyone on Youtube are military experts.

Ya Right for every hour of flight time it requires 30 hours of maintenence, it was farmed out to 44 states for its different parts and they have to be machined at final accembly for them to fit together.
The Aussies had a mock war game putting the F-22, the F-35, and the F/A-18 Super Hornet up against the new Sukihoi's and Migs. The Su and Mig pilots said it was like nocking baby seals over the head getting kills.

@69erkcd all 3 can pull 9G sustained turns,and the Su-35 and F-22 both have thrust vectoring,the only difference is the F-22 has no yaw vectoring...which is 100% useless in a dogfight anyway. so the Pak-Fa,MiG-35,Su-35S,J-20 and Su-37 are all no more maneuverable than the F-22. besides 95% of modern air combat is won from BVR...in which the F-22 is at least 500% better than every fighter i have just listed(and all others),and the F-35 is right behind it. so no,they CAN NOT compare to our planes.

ha it doesn't even have to get behind the plane, the systems in the f-35 are far superior than anything else. the pilot can simply look at the plane and lock on, he doesn't have to have the nose on the plane and the pilot has a 360 degree "view" cause of the sensors on it. the plane can fire the missile then leave the fight and let the missile do all the turning, its incredible what it can do.

The enemy we should look out for is Russia who is developing the Pak-Fa which is a straight shot at our F-22 and the Chinese J-20 which is also a shot at our F-22. They're not better than the F-22 they're either equal or weaker but we only have 180 F-22s since they discontinued it. But by the time they get those planes out we should have first flights of our new 6th generation UCAV fighters which the Pak and J will be outclassed by.

F-35 will be able to battle with early Flankers and Fulcrums quite easily, but against later mark Flankers and Fulcrums it will probably be taken, even with its superior sensor package. Though this may happen, it is unlikely for dogfighting with F-35, but if it happens against early Russian jets, it will probably win, agains later Russian jets, probably 80-20 to the Russkies.

This would be a good duel to see the outcome of. The 16 is faster, reaching Mach 2+ at altitude while the 35 is barely M1.6. The 16 also features higher maneuverability. However all that dog fighting prowess the 16 has is negated by the 35s Stealth, which is specifically designed to feign fighter and missile RADARs more than Ground RADARs. The 16 only has half the combat range than the 35, but both can carry nearly the same, with the 16 having more hard points. Good dual indeed.

The F35 is 'supposed' to be as maneuverable as the F16 and truly become its replacement, well the A model. So far, lots of issues have shown up in the test versions, but who knows how accurate everything is on the web. Reserve judgment until the final units are out.

The F35 might be stealthy but it cant carry infrared air to air missiles. The F16 can still out manoeuvre it. The F16 also can out climb the F35 and is faster at Mach 2.1+ compared to the F35s Mach 1.6. The trust to weight ratio is better in the F16 at 1.09 / F35 at 1.03. The F16 carrys more weapons so the F35 is not that good YET! And for the record the F35 is one pigugly plane.
The US governement also spent a lot on fighters that got the shit kicked out of them over Vietnam back in the 60s by subsonic Mig17s with no missles. The tables can turn very easy and in respect of my comment is the reason the F16 was built after LESSONS LEARNED. And to this day the F16 and F15 have the highest kill record without loss . Which means this stubby little F35 will really have to prove its worth to be as good as the F16 its going to replace.
What do you mean it can't carry IR AA missiles? It will be carrying the Aim-9X, a vector thrust sidewinder than can nail craft at the F-35's six. It doesn't have to dogfight since it can nail any craft from any direction with missiles that can pull 40+Gs (fighters can pull a little over 9G and after that the pilot blacks out) and are faster than any fighter jet.
I read that point about the F35 not being able to carry IR AA in AIRFORCES MONTLY MAG. So are you a better expert on fighter jets than them? There is no point praising a plane thats not yet in service and has not been at war. The F16 will be modded to take the AIM 9X also anyway.

Ya Right for every hour of flight time it requires 30 hours of maintenence, it was farmed out to 44 states for its different parts and they have to be machined at final accembly for them to fit together.
The Aussies had a mock war game putting the F-22, the F-35, and the F/A-18 Super Hornet up against the new Sukihoi's and Migs. The Su and Mig pilots said it was like nocking baby seals over the head getting kills.

@69erkcd all 3 can pull 9G sustained turns,and the Su-35 and F-22 both have thrust vectoring,the only difference is the F-22 has no yaw vectoring...which is 100% useless in a dogfight anyway. so the Pak-Fa,MiG-35,Su-35S,J-20 and Su-37 are all no more maneuverable than the F-22. besides 95% of modern air combat is won from BVR...in which the F-22 is at least 500% better than every fighter i have just listed(and all others),and the F-35 is right behind it. so no,they CAN NOT compare to our planes.

OK,i have heard many things,russia,india,israel,even greece...but CANADA?!?! the USAF has the longest and most rigorous training program in the world for its pilots,they fly for over 1000 hours in simulator and trainers before they even set foot in their plane,and then there is hundreds more hours in that before they get their wings,not to mention the fact they constantly practice. and the F-22s oxygen system has been fixed. and EVERY plane in history has been grounded once.

@69erkcd If the planes are in the same ballpark it is up to the pilots. That said Canadian pilots flying cf-18's have absolutely zero chance going up against an F-22. The F-22 was made to make other countries planes obsolete. Canadian pilot are well trained, but even our CF-18's are old. I am Canadian I am just smart enough to know.

I dont know if anyone knows this but the f16 is faster, climbs faster and turns faster then the f 35. As for the wepons they can fit them to the f16, remember that next time you pay your taxes and dont give me the stealth BS anti stealth tech has be around for a while. Face they have been lieing to us for years, we are outclassed when it comes to jets. They have been taking our money. JSF was a joint venture and some of the countrys are alreading pulling out, with more to follow

ha it doesn't even have to get behind the plane, the systems in the f-35 are far superior than anything else. the pilot can simply look at the plane and lock on, he doesn't have to have the nose on the plane and the pilot has a 360 degree "view" cause of the sensors on it. the plane can fire the missile then leave the fight and let the missile do all the turning, its incredible what it can do.

The enemy we should look out for is Russia who is developing the Pak-Fa which is a straight shot at our F-22 and the Chinese J-20 which is also a shot at our F-22. They're not better than the F-22 they're either equal or weaker but we only have 180 F-22s since they discontinued it. But by the time they get those planes out we should have first flights of our new 6th generation UCAV fighters which the Pak and J will be outclassed by.

F-35 will be able to battle with early Flankers and Fulcrums quite easily, but against later mark Flankers and Fulcrums it will probably be taken, even with its superior sensor package. Though this may happen, it is unlikely for dogfighting with F-35, but if it happens against early Russian jets, it will probably win, agains later Russian jets, probably 80-20 to the Russkies.

This would be a good duel to see the outcome of. The 16 is faster, reaching Mach 2+ at altitude while the 35 is barely M1.6. The 16 also features higher maneuverability. However all that dog fighting prowess the 16 has is negated by the 35s Stealth, which is specifically designed to feign fighter and missile RADARs more than Ground RADARs. The 16 only has half the combat range than the 35, but both can carry nearly the same, with the 16 having more hard points. Good dual indeed.

The F35 is 'supposed' to be as maneuverable as the F16 and truly become its replacement, well the A model. So far, lots of issues have shown up in the test versions, but who knows how accurate everything is on the web. Reserve judgment until the final units are out.

The F35 might be stealthy but it cant carry infrared air to air missiles. The F16 can still out manoeuvre it. The F16 also can out climb the F35 and is faster at Mach 2.1+ compared to the F35s Mach 1.6. The trust to weight ratio is better in the F16 at 1.09 / F35 at 1.03. The F16 carrys more weapons so the F35 is not that good YET! And for the record the F35 is one pigugly plane.

The US governement also spent a lot on fighters that got the shit kicked out of them over Vietnam back in the 60s by subsonic Mig17s with no missles. The tables can turn very easy and in respect of my comment is the reason the F16 was built after LESSONS LEARNED. And to this day the F16 and F15 have the highest kill record without loss . Which means this stubby little F35 will really have to prove its worth to be as good as the F16 its going to replace.

What do you mean it can't carry IR AA missiles? It will be carrying the Aim-9X, a vector thrust sidewinder than can nail craft at the F-35's six. It doesn't have to dogfight since it can nail any craft from any direction with missiles that can pull 40+Gs (fighters can pull a little over 9G and after that the pilot blacks out) and are faster than any fighter jet.

the B-52 is also old (1960's) and the USAF still use it, so that doesn't matter, and the f-16 easely outturns the f-35, the only good thing about the f-35 it's that it is stealth, and beleave my the f-35 isn't cheap. (good song)
