I like this video but I will have to question one of his statements. The battery is 1500mwh or whatever the abbreviation is, I doubt it will get through 2 days of heavy use. I know he was making a factual statement but for everyone else thats my two cents. My HTC Hero should be here sometime next week!
Seriously, I use my phone extensively, well, I'm always carrying the charger everywhere I go.
At first, the battery would last me 2 hours in between charges, but after disabling the stock SMS app, battery life improved significantly, it now lasts 2.5 to 3 hours.
There seems to be a disagreement on battery life between your review and phonedog's.
You made general statements about "largest battery", and the highest capacity of 1500 mAh.
You also said that this phone "will get you through two days of heavy use".
Phonedog's review stated that this phone had the lowest use time of all modern and comparable devices. Even with 1500 mAh battery of this phone, phonedog couldn't get a single day of heavy use out of this phone.
I currently have one and I've found that if you use the Hero like a normal phone you will have battery issues. My first couple days were crap with battery life because of this.
The issue is that many programs do not close on their own when you leave them. They will continue to run in the background.
However, if you use the phone more like a computer and constantly ensure that programs are actually closing after use you will get longer battery life.
There are a couple programs good for this, but the one I see most called for is Taskiller. Basically you'll run this program like Windows Task manager. After a while you'll learn to know what needs to be running and what doesn't, and you'll kill the programs that don't need to be running (much like optimizing laptop battery life).
Kill the extras when you're done with them, and you'll see a nice boost to total battery life.
Lastly, and most importantly, just like any other phone, Bluetooth, wifi, and searching for signal in dead areas must all be taken into account. All of this will kill ANY phone battery quickly.
That is a great question, but I do not know the answer sorry. This version is CDMA so it won't work on European networks (or any GSM network for that matter). Maybe HTC will release another European version w/ this body (Hero200), but my guess is this is a U.S. exclusive, and they will stick with the O.G. Hero in Europe. You like this design better than the original?
Great review. Just wondering if you could showcase the Camera and Camcorder in one of your videos. Only one video I've seen has actually bothered showing the camera and camcorder capabilities.
so would you say this is similar to the iphone and how is the touch response on the touch qwerty keyboard as i like a full physical one???? and is it comin out he 11th or 12th
The touch response of the keyboard is very good once you calibrate it, and the text prediction has been spot on. I did find that disabling both sound and vibration feedback lets you type even faster.
Sorry, have you figured it out? If not, easiest way is to Click the settings button on the keyboard itself (bottom-left-most button w/ little gears icon). The setting is called "Vibration Feedback". Uncheck it and you're good to go. You can also access it by going to the Main android Settings App > Locale & Text > Keyboard Settings > Uncheck Vibration Feedback. HTH
so i was told by this reviewer that the phone does not come with a screen protector....since the screen is glass i guess the screen doesn't scratch?? by putting on a screen protector do u think it will make it less sensitive to the touch?? thanks.
I am not sure if the Hero will come with a screen protector. My review unit did not but official retails version may.. the myTouch did.
I would highly recommend grabbing a good screen protector online. I have one on my mytouch and w/ the screen protector, it actually makes it better to use.. it does not effect sensitivity as the pulses can be detected by the screen through the protector.
In my experience, after the oils from your finger start to coat the protector, it actually makes it better to use because there is no drag on a dirty glass screen.
Spend a few extra bucks for a good screen protector, it will be well worth it!

@zeebafoo it has excellent battery life, but that also depends on which push notifications you have on, it can drain the battery easily

it can go maybe a day with moderate to heavy use but no where close to 2 days but it does have some thing like 116 hours standby all most 2 weeks

yes, I dont like the curve. looks stupid when you use the phone in landscape mode and it's uncomfortable when you have the phone in your pocket
fabiq 2 years ago
no. this is a NAM phone..and the 3g bands would only work in the States. You might be able to unlock it somehow..and only wifi*
