As an Atheist, I have the utmost respect for Unitarians, if this is what they believe. Actually, if more theists were Unitarian, I can guess I'd probably be more "OK" with those who believe in Christ and God. Thanks for putting some sanity in religion! :)
@voyager4u We don't render judgement against same-sex partners or partnerships. It's not our place to cast the first (or any) stone, and if government policies or societal prejudices try to hurl stones we intervene. Instead of judging (or even arrogating to ourselves the right to judge) we try to show ALL people the same acceptance, kindness, and support we'd like to be shown ourselves.
@Reltzik Once again, you've gained even more respect from me... Not that "I matter", but I can tell you that, if more non-christians/atheists watched this video and understood Unitarianism a little better, they'd be more apt to stand up for you. "To each, their own".. What's so bad about that idea, and why can't Christians grasp it?
@eajoseph217 Quite a few Christians can and do grasp it. Of course, some Christians say these Christians aren't Christian. We tend to focus on the loudest, rudest, most combative and visible members of any group, and let them become our mental image of that group, ignoring the bulk of the class they don't really represent. I prefer to seek out the positive rather than let the negative define Christianity for me.
@Reltzik OK, I do understand that not ALL Christians are pig-headed. And I've commented lots of times that we, as a society, tend to give most of our attention to the nut-jobs of any given group. To my dismay, however, I've had extremely close contact with some so-called "Christians" who blame all kinds of atrocities on 'heathens', 'the gays', and pretty much anyone else who doesn't agree with their exact take on Christianity. I usually 'classify' people on a case-to-case basis. :)
I dont realy like the term 'unity of God' or 'unitarian. It suggests that there are several God entities which are 'united'. In all the quotes you quoted, they specified 'one God'. I prefer the term 'Oness of God' that there is only One God worthy of worship, he is the creator of the heavens, the earth, humans and all creation.. Its interesting to know that this precisly wt Islam advocates; (God! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal) (2:255)
I have found that heresy are preformed by people that don't think the same way as your self. To the papists the protestants are heretics, to the protestants the Mormons are heretics. All depends on what side of the fence you stand I guess.
As an agnostic leaning towards atheism I guess most Xians believe I will burn, aside from the UUs.
