  • In Italy we have a very popular version of this song, entitled "Una ragazza in due" which means "A girl for two"...from what I understand, this song was born as a parody of some love songs of the period ,but the Italian authors, a band called "I Giganti" took it and turned it into a "serious" love song that was a great success at the time and is still well known among the new generations, almost a classic ... this original is very nice and funny and i like it as much as the italian version :-)

  • This, The Ying Tong song, and Lily the Pink...

  • @pussnip

Download "Realplayer" and a little box will appear when you put the cursor in the top right part of the video. It can also convert to mp3 and give you a choice where to store it. I've never had any problems with it. All my downloads come from Youtube.

  • I remember this being on the radio when I was about five or six. I'm 52 now, and I think it's the first time I've heard it since then. Smashin! :)

  • fantastic tune. I have a vinyl copy and play it regularly (sat night at a halloween party I was D.J.ing as it appens)

  • It may have never charted highly, but it was guaranteed to be played at many a village fete when conditions dictated...that's where the additional phrase "if wet in the village hall" comes from.

  • Could you imagine Mitch Murray, with Ray Stevens? - What a combination that would be!

  • Hi Mitch, You are amazing man without doubt. You are a lightyears ahead. Your songs are joking but serious at the same time. I love all your songs. You brought smile on lots of people in this world. Thanks, Mitch.

  • I can recall hearing this on Juke Box Jury back in the 60`s but cant remember if it was voted a hit or a miss. MR Murray also appeared on "Thank your lucky stars " TV programme to sing the song comlete with special rain effects, basically the poor guy got a soaking every time he sang "Down came the rain" thanks for posting

  • I may be wrong, but I remember the chorus from Steve Write (excuse the spelling if it's wrong) on radio one, in the 70's. I can't remember why he used to play it, but I always found it funny.

  • Just getting ready for a BBQ, but loads of rain forecast, and this song sprang to mind.

Looked for it on You Tube, and what did I find?

    Thanks lanpbx

  • Dear Mitch,

I always smile when I hear this song and other your hit songs. I never forget your kindness when I went to I.O.M. filming "Ginger Tree" some years ago. I thank you for your entertainment with so many your friends. See you some day, again.

  • Yep Schools out for summer. It's raining here in the UK and their having a heat wave in Russia. Question Who's controling the weather now? Cold war rumour once thought it was the Russians, someones turned the thermostat up too much.

We Brits cant afford it this year.

  • Thanks, heard this once or twice 40 years ago but never forgot it. My daughter just heard it for the first time and laughed too.

  • If yu would like a 45 of this it's on:FONTANA TF623 1965 by MISTER MURRAY.The Flip-Side is WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MUSIC?.This is from Murray in Scotland..........

  • me too, its great!!

  • i did as well fantastic

    thanks radio 2

  • WTF LOL actually made me piss my pants laughing

  • Believe it or not, this guy inspired Sting to write music! There's more info about Mitch Murray all over the net. He had the shortest career at Radio Caroline in the 60s (lasted about half an hour).

  • First heard it played by Annie Nightingale about 20 years ago, and I've been looking for it ever since!

    Many thanks for posting.

  • Inspired by the Goons?

  • No, I don't think so. The Goons was some stupid nonsense aimed at sniveling smart-arses with stupiid short-back-and-sides haircuts, who liked to show how clever they were by laughing ecstatically at unfunny scripts, whereas this song is about how the British weather is destined to ruin any well thought out plans.

  • heard this once in the 60s.i was just a kid and never forgot it.funny stuff.great memories!

  • Made me laugh on a down day Great !!

  • class ha ha

  • I haven't heard this in half a lifetime., Reminds me of my childhood....... wonderful. Kev

  • Don't blame you!!

    Mary Dary

  • Bond-girl at 0:20 if I saw correctly =) Crazy song...

  • I heard this on the radio once

and i was totally fucking blown away

this doesnt sound like it came from a 'band'

its more like a movie song or somethong from the muppet show

THIS SONG IS AB SO LUTE LY FUCKING BRILLIANT

IT SHOULD BE A HIT AGAIN

    MUST GET PLAYED SOME MORE

    BRILLANT

THEY DONT MAKE EM LIKE THIS NO MORE

    UNFORTUNATLEY

  • Believe it or not, I play this song sometime at the end of the night at the nightclub I work... funny to see people's face :o)

FYI, Bombalurina did another version of that song on their album "Huggin' an'a Kissin'" Somewhere in the late 80's. On the same album you have few other oldies, such as their big hit "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini". Their version was really close to the original though.

I know, useless information, but I've no life so :-D

  • i think the Italian version is better.....

I Giganti - Una Ragazza in Due

  • I herd this song back in 1987 while lay in bed sickened with gastric flu, the pain i suffered from howling with laughter has only been matched over the years by my longing to hear it again. AND NOW I HAVE !!!!

  • loved this song as a kid, never knew who sang it, can you even still buy it?. question? i remember a song in the sixtys dont know the title but i remember a line that went something like this I told the wife we would be better off in blackpool any one know it?

  • This haunted my childhood like a kipper down the back of the sofa...thanks for bringing back so many memories

  • Have you ever had a kipper down the back of your sofa? i read your post and burst out laughing ive never heard that expresion before, anyway thanks for making me laugh.

  • Hey, thanks for the nice message :-0 personally no...but it would kind of haunt you if you did!

  • I like that loud pikey-ish voice! Hahahahaha! "DOWN CAME THE RAAAAAAAAAAAIN!" Hawhawhawhawhawhawhawhawhawhawhawhawhawhaw!!!!!!

This joke has happened again! It never keeps stopping to make it happen forever!!!

  • i've never heard this song in english (its awful) but in italy this song was a huge hit in the 60s its called "I Giganti - Una ragazza in due" and it sounds much better

  • the english version was released first. obviously the italian singer liked it, or he wouldnt sing it would he?

  • 43 years later and still p*ss funny...a timeless classic,,,,another user says it doesn`t make sense.......? Life doesn`t...

  • Some one should go on the X-Factor with this song!!!

    :D

    That would make quality tv!!!

  • Thanks for posting Ianpbx, been hoping someone with taste? would put it on the tube. They don't make them like this any more do they!

    Great video.

PS Anyone got Bridget the Midget?

  • I'm surprised so many people remember this, considering, as far as I'm aware, it didn't even chart in the Top 20.

  • @Ianpbx Officially it never even made the UK Top 50 ... but it did make #30 for 1 week in the NME chart at the end of 1965.

  • @Ianpbx We had it on a Hello Children Everywhere tape, I think. Or something similar.

  • My God not heard this for years. Thanks for bringing back some happy memories.

  • maybe sid vicious once heard this song and like it,years later copied it,s sound with his voice on his version of my way, just a thought lol

  • makes no sense

  • Brilliant. I love his infectious humour. The follow up (or maybe the B side) was 'I drink to your memory'. Also hilarious.

  • I've just put up my video of 'I Drink to your Memory' by Mr Murray as a response to this video. Enjoy!

  • anyone know who sang this ?

  • Magic Music And a very Nice Vid.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for posting this. It always makes me smile, especially when it rains!

  • Thank You for this.

I have been looking for this for ages.

    Its very Funny.

  • Well done Ian. At last the full version on YouTube! Great video as well. I was 12 when this came out and it was a minor hit in the UK and this is the first time I've heard the full version since then. Isn't YouTube wonderful?

  • Thank you! Finally! I can experience "Down Came The Rain" again! I remember hearing this song on AM radio in New York in 1964 or '65. I was 11 and thought it so weird and funny. All these years later, when waxing nostalgic, I'd try in vain to hear it again on my PC. The closest I came was a YouTube post of only part of the record drowned out by two giggling teenage girls. Now ... this! Finally! And -- bonus -- your video is a great accompaniment. What a hoot! What memories!

  • sophie is wow

  • ooer, good vidio, not sure about the tune thou :P

  • fuck you
