mate u must be joking. The bowlers might have gotten bigger these days cuz TV shows close ups. Gavasker has the record of scoring many centuries against the Windies with their fearsome quartet of fast bowlers. Pakisthan always had fast bowlers eg Imran Khan. Australia had Lillie and Tommo. England surely had some fast men.
Gavasker lived in a time when the fast bowlers were better and the pitches were not flat dead tracks where you could simply bully people with a massive stride (or even a stroll donw the pitch) and bats where mishits easily carry the ball over the ropes.
See, benfegr, I keep running into people on here that have no idea what they're talking about, and you're just another. Back then, when they measured the speed, it was an average of when the ball left the hand to when it hits the bat or goes past the bat. Now, the speed of the ball is measured at the time of release from the hand. Hence, it appears that bowlers used to be slower, but they were this fast. And seeing how many class WI fast bowlers there were, there were more of them.
I presume you are a young bloke like myself, but I suggest you learn more about playing conditions then and now and about the great pace bowlers of the 70s and the 80s.
lol... yeah the only difference is Hayden scores of lolypops and gavaskar faced genuine quick bowlers... dude lose yourself and change your nick before people see your comment...don't let people have fun at your expense... stop being a masochist..lol..
Hahahaha ......... Sure look at how good Hayden was against Walsh, Ambrose, Donald and Wasim in good batting conditions (of the 90s) in his own backyard ...... Donald even gave the fat ugly pig-face a broken thumb.
And oh Gavaskar 1)with zero protective gear, 2)on the fastest, bounciest, most difficult pitches, 3) with zero batsman-protecting rules, 4)with cipher financial security of the field, faced 100+mph ALL-TIME LEGENDS like Snow, Lillee, Thommo, Roberts, Garner, Croft, Holding, Clarke, Daniel, Marshall, Patterson, Imran ....
I've watched matches from when Gavaskar has played in, the pitches aren't much different from today's. The bounce is equally as consistant. The only difference is that the bowling is allot slower. Hayden takes bowling attacks apart from Gavaksar just grinds them out, he doesn't dominate at all.
Hayden also played for Australia A and made runs against the likes of McGrath & Warne over a decade ago.
Hahahaha .... Pitches in the 90s and esp todaya the same as the 70s/80s etc Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Hohohohohohohoho Hohohohohohohoho So now I know how the Don averages 99.94 .... Still Donald gave him a Hayden a broken thumb Haha
as also Hogg, Gilmour, Walker, Pascoe, Nawaz, Hadlee, Willis, Botham etc etc ......... In far better batting conditions, Hayden faced far lesser number of less great bowlers in the early and mid 90s and was pathetic at best .......... and now the entire 'great' Aus line-up gets owned by Shoaib, Bond, Harmison or Flintoff, when on song. All the pig-faced bastard does is bash up in excellent batting conditions C-grade attacks that the present game abounds in.
The had a World's Fastest Bowler competition in 1979. Barely any bowlers past 140kph and that's them bowling their fastest. They'd probably be bowling under 130kph in a match on average. Hardly anything threatening is it?
Thommo, Holding, Lillee, Roberts had all maxed 96+ mph in 75-76 AVERAGING over the entire 22-yard pitch - meaning 100-110 mph out-of-hand. 90s and today's buggers like Shoaib, Lee etc are 90 mph OUT-OF-HAND. Thommo used to hit the sightscreen after first bounce. In 79-80 also, they AVERAGED 130-150 kph over the pitch - that means 150-170 kph out-of-hand. THAT on top of no protective gear, zero batsmen-protecting rules, on uncovered pitches ......
Hahahahahaha ...... Lillee, Thommo, Roberts, Holding, Garner, Marshall, Pascoe, Hogg, Croft, Clarke, Daniels, Patterson, Gilmour, Walker, Prior, Snow, Willis, Dilley, Botham, Imran, Nawaz, Hadlee - Sunny faced them all. Hayden faces trundlers from India and SL after getting his thumb broken by Donald and wetting his pants against Ambrose. He did 'great' against Harmison and Flintoff in Ashes'05 when he was in great form before and after bashing up medium-pace trundlers. Hahahaha bark on ....
'He bareley faced west indian foursome Pace Quartet attack'
Are you on drugs?? In chronological order --Julien, Boyce, V.Holder, Roberts, Holding, Garner, Croft, Marshall, Walsh-- Gavaskar faced all of them plenty of times and quite successfully.
Just a trifle matter, he also scored 13 centuries against that WI attack and that is by far the best by any batsman. Look up his knocks in Trinidad 1971, Trinidad 1976, Delhi 1983 and Madras 1983 against WI for more info.
I don't think so. Gavaskar made most of the centuries against west indies when west indies were dominated by spin attack. For ex. he made four centuries on his debut series against west indies in early 70s. In mid 70s gavaskar again faced west indies when their pace battery was just starting to take form. He bareley got 2 or atleast 3 centuries where he faced full west indian pace attack.
101 in Manchester against Willis, Old and Hendrick.. 86 in Mumbai in the 1975 'Roberts' series against the great Antiguan himself, Julien and Holder...156 in POS, Trinidad against Roberts, Holding and Julien...102 in India's victory in POS (same series)... 66 against Holding at his quickest when he and W.Daniel injured 3 Indian batsman in Kingston's bloodbath (same series)...
111 & 137 vs Pak in Karachi against Imran and Sarfraz in 1978 ... 107 and 182 (n.o.) in Calcutta against Clarke, Marshall and Holder in 1978 ... 221 at Oval, 1979 against Botham, Willis and Hendrick ... 166 vs Imran and Sikander at Madras, 1980 .. 127 n.o (out of team total of 286) against Imran, Sarfraz and Sikander in Faislabad, 1983... 147 n.o against Roberts, Holding , Garner and Marshall at Guyana 1983 ...236 n.o vs Marshall, Roberts, Holding and Davis at Madras 1983.. I rest my case!

Maybe not statistically, but the bowlers he faced compared to Gavaksar were about 20kph faster!

No, they clocked them. The fastest was 147kph.
The pitches were no different then from today. The only difference is that they weren't covered when it rained.
Hayden has faced great bowlers and averages over 50 against Murali who is one of the best bowlers of all time.
