@beckpatr1 Oh come on. Anyone who can get through a Rach concerto at least half-decently can be called a good piano player. And this is well above half-decent.
Had the pleasure of hearing her do this one live, substituting for Olga Kern with about two days notice. A friend who played in the orchestra told me that after getting off the plane she had asked the conductor in all sincerity, "Now are we doing Rach 2 or 3?". Needless to say she brought the house down. Just had to share that :-)
@hbmp88 may i suggest slowing down the last repeat of the theme? give it a "last saying", it feels a bit rushed. but overall very powerful and passionate performance! and of course rachmaninoff would be proud :D
Im not too clued up on classical so could you guys tell me - if she is rushing it i suppose the conductor just goes with the tempo she makes - is that right
@cleveroonie No my friend totally the opposite, she will play and fit in with how the conductor wants each individual part to sound, she will have input obviously but the Soloist and Orchestra ultimately perform the conductors interpretation. :-)
@cleveroonie There is a difference between "fast" and "rushed" Sounding "rushed" means the performer had difficulty interpreting a piece at the assigned tempo. It takes an exceptional performer who can play "faster" than the "norm" or average without sounding "rushed". Valentina is one of few who can.
@mudyar Absolutely correct, Valentina has a technique to die for. Orchestra members get a work out when they perform with her. I've said it before and I will say it again, she will go down as one of the greatest female pianist of our time.
It is a great joy to see how easy she - my new favourite - plays this melodious composition. Rachmaninoff is also one of my favourites, so it really is a perfect combination. Sorry the clip was not some seconds longer to hear the resonance clearly. The end of the piano concerto is very majestic.
Valentina possesses extraordinary technical ability with fluid interpretation, articulating the rubato passages with aplomb. However, I must agree with Schiwago, she rushes through many of the passages, taken over by her prowess. It is that prowess that captures many ears...the Bosendorfer Imperial Grand adding to the aura, but make no mistake, Valentina is a rare virtuoso.

Mrmolin - pianists of there quality have very little between them -its just comes down to personal taste - I love them both - and their own idiosyncratic styles
I've heard so many hackneyed playing of this concerto but when I hear her play I forgot what piece this was but that how refreshingly beautiful and exciting playing this is. I'm totally amazed, as never before. Bouquet of Flowers to this lady of the piano!!!!!
They invented the piano so Rachmaninoff can work his magic.

Where has all the good piano player gone?
I guess Horovitz would not be amused... even Rachmaninoff not!

@alexface211, beckpatr1 doubts even Rachmaninovs pianistic skills, so lets keep him alone with his whining. Everybody happy :)

@maynard2012 Very bad indeed. She should forget music. So, do it you better, please.

When concerting, the image that the interpretor provides the audience is almost as important as the music that is produced!
Valentina's image is unique! She doesn't need any extravagant hair style or theatrical moves so she can interact with the audience!

Uma boa briga entre Valentina e a Orquestra.
Digamos mesmo, uma linda briga, pois, a Lisitsa é ótima, mesmo em situações de verdadeiro perigo.
Parabéns Valentina.
