Amos refers to GERMANY'S crimes against entirely CAUCASIAN peoples (Jews, etc.) as "racism," then implies that BRITAIN has some sin for which to atone, and that HER people should be the beneficiaries of a British atonement for a sin that Britons didn't commit.
Sins committed by who, and against who? It's not really a question of who is guilty, but of who is innocent, which is "pretty much no one." The island of Britain never had many slaves, and when they did it was called feudalism and the slaves were white. As for colonialism? The standard of living in just about every African country has fallen since the end of colonialism.
But you fail to answer the original question: why are Britons responsible for the sins of the Nazis, who they defeated?

also, the answer seems to be simple, how do we build a better Britain?
EDUCATION EDCUATION EDUCATION. we need students to be better educated about HISTORY in particual, as the only way to see what is to come, is to she what came. in other words, to see the future we need to see the past.
p.s i hope Baroness Amason continues, her lectures to other universites, mine is one of them. its also good to see a diverse face in the House of Lords, and hope she pushes 4 more diversity in Upper Chamber.
Clearly a very well educated woman, and is speaking the truth most of the time in a pure form.
she made refrence to the fact that Britain was the 'mother country', to many other colonies, thats what makes our country so diverse. i personal think she underplayed the importance of this fact. polticans need to speak more openly about Britains history, and she nervously tiptoed around it.
not her fault, in the futre, we need to embrace all of British history, good and bad.
i think you're right, we tend to hide a lot of our history. what we have done as a nation in the last 200 years has had a seriously significant impact on the whole world. we are responsible for a lot of the consequences of history that are surfacing today, and will continue to affect the world in the future.
a more open acceptance of the good and the bad would allow us to actually learn from the past
