  • Thats one amazingly beautiful animal you have right there sir

  • @darealb1gd Thank you for the kind words. And he's as beautiful inside as he is outside. Be well. ^v^

  • If people really cared about their animals and not just their own egos, would they not take the time to learn what they really are? It does make a difference in many ways.

  • Cool wolf I have one named Hana she is black as night she loves to go hunting with me on my farm she lays under my feet she let's me know if a deer is around she kicks those ears up

  • @WhiteMysticalWolf Thanks for your warm words. They really are such incredible spirits. I'm fortunate to have rescued him and shared his life these past 9 years. We compliment each other very well. Our bond is very tight. He sort of rescued me too (grin). Be well.

  • Really does look like a wolf!

  • omg, it's almost like a movie!!! could make a movie with him in it? like just a little clip? because he is like.... AMAZING!!! love him, and great video shots too

  • Im sowy, but im so fluffy, that i cant evade my fluffynes.

  • kind of looks like an arctic wolf.

  • @nowaynohow26 Yes, he does. But he's 1/2 gray wolf...1/4 Shepherd & 1/4 Great Pyrenees. That's where he gets the white coat from. Take it lightly.

  • woowww its so prettyyyyy :)

  • @noritacochicha Thank you for your kind words....be well.

  • Absolutely a beautiful wolf hybrid =)

He looks so happy and he looks just like Wolfie from the humaine society...i almost got Wolfie but he was euthanized just two days before i was going to get him :,(

    great video, beautiful wolf

  • @Sinder2196 WOW...you made me sad. I can't imagine how I'd be if Phelan had the same history as Wolfie. I grieve at the loss of what you may have known in that relationship...for Phelan, me & my "specials ones" are so much the richer for him in our lives...but hell, he's lucky to have me too (grin). Be well and thanks for the kind words.

    Regards,

    Liam

  • @CruelCobalt

thank you and your welcome, i also found a video i made with wolfie in it so i can just watch that whenever i miss him =)

  • where do you live?

  • I want awolf hybrid like that..

    Lol

  • BEAUTIFUL puppie!!! i want one

  • You've seen Balto, right? He looks so much like Balto's wolf mom (I think it was his mom). Beautiful and now I have to go watch that movie!

  • Thanks for your kind comment, XD. You know, that movie "Balto" is based on a true story...I read the book when I was a kid. The hearts of our pets can truly be amazing. Be well.

  • What a beauty..so misunderstood but you looked past all the hat and saw the beauty beneath the beast. one day i to would love to become a proud owner of such a wonder

  • Thank you for your kind words. Hopefully, you will one day know the many gifts that owning a wolf hybrid bring...tis truly amazing. Be well.

  • Phelan is an anglicised version of the name O' Faolain, which ironically means 'young wolf'

  • Thanks for the background on Phelan's name. I was aware of this when I named him...so, it wasn't irony. Thanks again though.

  • Where do you get one

i want a baby one so i can raise it!

and isnt it illegal in canada?

  • he has wolf hybid not a wolf, thats legal, but if you have wolf, so thats would be ilegal

  • Unless you have a wildlife license and the correct facilities, and you live in the right states :)

  • I WANT ONE WHERE CAN I GET ONE????

  • Man wut a cutie X3

  • I have a husky wolf too, and she is beautiful. She comfort me when I cry by licking my eyes, it's so precious. Please be positive and you will be able to get a huskie or wolf. Until then maybe find one that needs to be walked or something .

  • If I Can get a dog i would spend all my money on it rather than spending it on what i want. But my parents deny that :( im really in depression.

  • I hope your "depression" is just a case of the blues and not more serious. I don't know your living situation but when I was your age 22, I was on my own and had my own dog at that time. So, just hang in there....save money...set your goals and in time, you'll have the dog to companion your life and all will be wonderful. So, buck up lil camper (grin) and shake off the blues. You could also volunteer at a shelter to help those critters and brighten your day. Your parents can't object to that.

  • Dude, if i were you, i would run over to that wolf right now and just hold him/her in my arms. Actually, if i were there, i'd jump over your fence and etc. >:), call the police, if you will. But, that will not stop me from hugging your gorgeous wolf :).

  • Interesting image you present...you hopping over my fence to hug Phelan. I think that may be more difficult than you know. Wolves are wary of strangers and he was a rescue so he is doubly suspicious of those outside of "the pack". We are very close and he loves hugs from me. If you are ever in the Washington DC area...drop me a note and I'd be more than happy to introduce you to him. Be well and thanks for the kind words.

  • @Satisfackxion The Humane Society is not expensive...

  • Hey dude, even though I'm younger than you, you have to understand this, 'Soon you'll be independent and you get to do whatever you want in the world. But, remember your life, is your choice.'

  • Absolutely beautiful. I love watching these creatures just act on their own accord, in nature. I can sit for hours on end just watching and seeing what they do.

He looks very happy. Kudos to you!

  • Thank you for your kind words, Mass. Be well & Happy New Year to you and yours. I get to hug a wolf tonight...may you be as fortunate. It is a magical event...every time.

    Ciao----Liam

  • Doesn't it make you want one even more than you've ever wanted one?

  • I love your wolf.. So beautiful & smart.

    ~~Ava~~

  • Thank you, Ava & may 2010 smile warmly upon you and yours----Liam

  • That is a most beautiful creature. His eyes look soooo soulful :)

  • Thank you for your kind words. He is indeed a beauty...inside & out. And yes, his eyes possess great depth and expression...of course, I'm a tad biased (grin). Be well.

  • i know he is half wolf but whats the other half?

  • He is half wolf....1/4 Shepard & 1/4 Great Pyrenees. That combo makes for 100% gold (grin).

  • nice mix

  • Thanks.

  • welcome

  • This might be a stupid question but I can't figure it out. How did Phelan know that you'd planted a treat for him in the snow? I didn't see any footprints near where he found his treat. He wasn't following a scent trail from where you'd walked it seems. How'd he know? You've probably played this game with him before so, I'd have to ask, how'd he know you'd hidden a treat the first time? I know of the intelligence of animals, keenly so. I'd love to hear the description of how he knew!

  • Well, I tossed the treat outside before I let Phelan out. If you watch the video again, you'll see he is "scenting" but also listening to me. I was telling him where the treat was and even pointed. Trivia here--dogs & wolves are one of the very few animals that actually look where humans point. Try that with your cat, Mr. Whiskers (grin). And yes, my boyo is extremely intelligent. But hey, I'm biased. LOL

  • Thank you for sharing that. I did notice him listening to you and your tone when he got close - and almost seemed to be giving up - probably clued him in that he was close.

    Hug Phelan for me :)

  • awe, how fun.

    x]

    what a cutie

  • Thanks for the compliment.

  • lol, my last name is phelan. Your dog looks awesome :D

  • Thanks, he is awesome. Great last name you have (grin). It's Gaelic for "grand wolf"...guess you knew that already. Anyway, take care.

  • Such a beautiful dog and video.

  • Thank you for your kind words.

  • The breader I got my mal from has pure white mals that look identical to your boy, how bis is he? the white mal male at breaders was 128lb

  • Phelan now weighs 125 lbs. When I rescued him in 2001...he was 91 lbs. That's way too skinny & lanky for him. He was found roaming in the woods and people were shooting at him. God, I'd love to be in a room for 5 minues with people that abuse animals. I'm not a violent man...but at 6'4" & 250 lbs...I can "tap dance" if needed. There'd only be a greasey spot left after I have a "chat" with an abuser. LOL---sorry, just venting there. Be well and thanks for the comment.

  • How great are hybrids around children? Do they kind of act friendly, or are they kinda dangerous around them?

  • Try to remember that wolf hybrids are different than dogs. They are more pack-oriented. Meaning that everyone in the pack has a role. In my case, I am Alpha wolf, Phelan is Beta (#2 looks to the Alpha for guidence) So, a child would be lower down in ranking to him. He would not harm a child but would consider them differently than me. It's like this--a child plays with his/her siblings one way---with his parents another way. You wouldn't roughhouse with your parents, you would with your sibling.

  • beautiful animal

I'd love to have a wolfdog hybrid, but it seems like a hastle to aquire a breeder that can satisfy my tastes in the dogs heritage. I'm not sure what particular mix is good but if I could get one that looks like your dog I totally would. I'm also aware that its very crucial to properly train them in their puppy days if I want them to be social with strangers and feel comfortable like a normal dog.

do you know the exact heritage of your dog?

and also what do you feed it

  • Are wolfdogs affectionate? or are they pretty wild? I'd love to get one (I love animals and have a fetish for wild ones... the expieriences are different and sometimes very surprising!) but I have no idea what to expect... You say they're closer to the wolf side, but for what? Will it still like to stay close to you or will it always want to be outdoors?(like more than usual..) Are they good with children? (you know.. in case someone comes over) will it only be nice with the people it knows? Thx

  • Another blast of questions (grin). I'll try to answer them. Hybrids like all creatures, have to be taken on an individual basis. They are generally very affectionate. However, the focus is on their pack...not the public at large like most dogs. Hybrids are usually shy...like wolves. They aren't super friendly with strangers but wary of them. Most dogs will love anyone who scratches their butt. Wolves don't warm up that way. But when they accept you, their affection, humor, & loyalty are golden.

  • Some dogs are even like that. My husky has her moments of affection but 95% of the time she wouldnt care if my girlfriend and I lived or died. She loves being outside ALL THE TIME and she is a total escape artist. She's personable enough but she loses interest in people super quick. Having said that I love her to death and im thrilled she's around. I've had afghans all my life so I'm used to the "aloof" personality. If you want a dog to follow you around and want to play 24/7 get a lab.

  • ehhhh.... what's with the lab part... =/

Dude... I was just asking a question... No need to be rude... =/

But anyways... thanks for the info!

  • Oh wait.... did you mean the dog or the expieriment lab?!

(Sorry if you where talking about the dog... I didn't get that)

  • lol the dog dude, the dog

  • oh! okay! lol sorry!

  • do wolfdogs do OK in a hot climate? (i live in southern arizona)

do you think its necessary to have had a dog before you get a wolfdog? like for the experience? because i have never had a dog before, but i absolutely love wolfdogs but i know it would be a terrible decision to buy one with no training on my part. is there anything i could do?

also, ive read that its best to get two so that they can have a companion, is that true?

  • WOW....5 questions for me. I'll try to fit short answers. 1 Wolves in a hot climate?-While there are some red & Mexican gray wolves in Az...they had to be reintroduced as there were non in the wild. Wolves generally like cooler than desert temps. Coyotes more than wolves there. 2 Have a dog before a hybrid?- Yes, I'd recommend it. But wolves have a few different traits that your average dog.

  • 3 Get experience?- Yes, if you have never had a dog say, just cats...getting experience with a dog would be good. Take care of a friend's dog and see how you are with it. 4 Training on your part? I suggest you Google wolf/hybrid shelters near you and start a dialogue. Maybe visit a shelter and volunteer. Breeders have a financial motive...shelters have a humane one. 5 Get two hybrids? Well, hybrids are closer to wolves than dogs. They relate more to their pack. Another hybrid, dog or even -----

  • ----you & your family members can be "the pack". While my hybrid Phelan, has a few buddies that he plays with...he and I are "the pack". It suits us as I'm more of a "lone wolf" type myself (grin). Anyway, you had some good questions showing me that you'd be a good owner. Many people want a hybrid for the "WOW factor" to impress other people...a terrible motive. Don't get me wrong, the "WOW factor" is prevalent. I get people stopping their cars when we go walking ALL the time. (grin) Be well.

  • Thanks so much for your great answers!

  • i was reading through some of your comments on here and i have to say, you really know your stuff. i know a wolf isnt for me and have no plans of getrting one but i wanted to ask, besides hiding treats what other sort of mental stimulation do you normaly do for this guy?

  • Thank you for your kind words. Mental stilulation, eh? I once gave him a Rubik's Cube and a 5 minute timer. He promptly said (in his Irish accent) "Father, may I remind you that I lack opposible thumbs." (grin...just kidding). I tie a prime rib bone to a string, then walk around my backyard in a haphazard fashion looping, etc. I then place the bone behind a tree. I bring him to the "starting point" and watch him amazingly trace my exact route to the bone. No space here to list other things I do.

  • just so you know i almost had milk come out of my nose XD

  • LOL...sorry about the timing with the milk...but glad you got a giggle. Be well.

  • give it dedication.

phelan is obedient??, wolf hybrids can get along with other dogs?

  • Yes, Phelan is very obedient...to me (grin). I am the Alpha Wolf to our "pack". And yes, hybrids can get along very well with other dogs...mostly with dogs they know. Strangers are less welcome. It's a "pack thing" once again.

  • I wonder, how did you get a wolf-hybrid, and if so, how much would they cost. I really want one. Send me a message if you can :) thank you.

  • I see that you are a 15 year old female. I strongly advise that you don't pursue this wish of yours now. I assume that you live with your parents now. Wolf hybrids can live to be 20. What happens when you go off to school in a couple years? Get married...have kids? A wolf hybrid is a special relationship requiring time, dedication, love & discipline. Sorry to place a dark cloud upon your dream. But wait until you can give your time to one. Volunteer at a wolf/hybrid shelter if you can. Be well.

  • ive seen serveral youtube vids with wolf hybrid or wolf as their pets.

    isnt that dangerous and legal?

  • Hi. I'll split your question into two parts...starting with the last first. The legality of owning a wolf or hybrid depends upon the state or municipality where one lives. Almost all require special permits and living arrangements for 100% wolves. Many (as where I live) allow a 50/50 dog/wolf mix without special permits. Dangerous??? Well, that depends on several factors. Main one being the owner. If the owner is responsible, less chance of danger. Remember, even Mrs. Smith's dog can bite you.

  • Phelan is a really beautiful boy! Thank you so much for rescuing him. I am so glad you have found each other. Not too many people are responsible enough to share their lives with these wonderful animals.Glad that you are one of the lucky few!

  • Thank you so much for your comment. Wolf hybrids are a different pet than the run of the mill dog. But with dedication...the love and depth is amazing. And yes, I consider myself lucky to have him in my life. Be well.

  • How adorable! How much did he cost? o_o;

  • Thank you for the compliment. He is a "rescue". I think I paid $200 for him...neuter fee & shots. So many people think it would be "cool" to have a wolf hybrid but don't have the time to devote to bonding & raising one. They turn them loose in the woods...as was Phelan's case. But it was providence that we found each other. We have a very special bond. It has enriched both of our lives in was that few can fathom. Anyway, I'm rambling here...LOL. Thanks again for commenting. Take care.

  • $200 thats cheap for such an awesome dog i got a bullmastiff puppy for £900 :P

  • Oh wow! An Arctic? You really got lucky there; most lupine pets are timberwolves, but you got an Arctic!

    *envy*

Absolutely beautiful, really. You've obviously taken good care of him, too =D

  • Thank you for the kind words. Even though he most definately looks like an Arctic Wolf...he's actully half Gray Wolf-1/4 White Shepard & 1/4 Great Pyrenees. The Shepard & Great Pyr give him the white coat--Gray Wolf his size (125 lbs). And yes, I do take very good care of him. He's my heart. Be well.

  • looks like the hybrid i had a couple years ago...sadly...she died.... :'[

  • I'm sorry for your loss. But you had the love & company of a wolf hybrid. There aren't many of us that truly know how wonderful that can be. You were lucky to have had her in your life...and she..to have you in hers. Be well.

  • Beautiful and even more beautiful he found a forever Home.

  • Thank you for posting your comment...indeed...we have both found a home & heart in each other...funny how that works at times. Be well.

  • wow that looks like my cooteley monster. we lived together for 12 years, some of the best years of my life. he was smart, playful, gentle, loving and easy to live with. kept himself clean by swimming in lakes and rivers, even in the freezing snow. miss him. you're lucky to have such a fine friend

  • Thank you for your kind words. Not getting too philosophical here but there are some relationships that are SPECIAL...a boy & his dog is one of them. Regardless of the "boy's" age. While we can never replace a pet that has claimed our heart after they pass but in time we have the capacity to accept another to warm our hearts. Phelan was a wolf hybrid rescue. I got him in 2001. They thought he was about a year old then. So, he's about 9 or 10 now. Some wolves can live to 20. Hopefully, he shall.

  • were did s/he go?? lol

  • Wow, he is gorgeous! :)

  • Thank you for your kind words. He is a beauty...inside & out. Feel free to check out some other vids I have of him....those don't have the music removed...LOL. Damn copyright people...we all use the tunes for fun...not profit. Alas, kill all the lawyers wasn't bad advice at all. (grin).

  • whoa is that an Arctic Wolf? What is the % difference of that breed?

  • what sub species are his parents made of? like what are his breed mixes?

  • man that is so cool can you tell me where i can get one at please

  • Thanks for your kind words. Phelan was a "rescue". Wolf Hybrids are wonderful creatures. But not for everyone. You must dedicate time for them. They are more complex than just a regular dog. You state that you are 15 years old. I think you are too young to have a hybrid...as you will have other interests & school for years to come. These special animals need your time, love and discipline. You have to be the Alpha of the pack...or they'll run all over you. So, wait until you are in your 20s. OK?

  • Hi, boo boo! Who's cute? I love the boo boo. Who's my cute little boo boo?

  • LOL---I can hear you saying that in your "high pitched Boo Boo" voice.

  • lol. you're right. that's how i was saying it. he really is beautiful!!!

  • looks too small to be a real hybrid

  • Not sure how familiar you are with wolves & hybrids. They run the gamut in sizes. From the Arabian Wolf (max 32" long) to the Gray Wolf (max 5'-6' long) These are measured from nose tip to end of tail. Phelan is 33" tall, 5'2" long and weighs 125 pounds (Vet certified last October)So, he's a large lad indeed. Maybe the snow makes him look smaller to you. Gauge him against my green kayak in the background. It's 10 feet long. Check out my other viddies of him. Be well.

  • i want to get a hybrid but I want a male that will get to at least 200lbs

  • yeah that is a nice size, he just looked smaler on the video

  • He is soooo beautiful! Hope you are giving him all the attention he needs! Wolf-hybrids need a lot of work :)

  • Thank you very much for your kind words. He is indeed a beauty...inside & out. Have no worries, he is a very healthy & happy boyo. Hybrids are not "just big dogs". They do have different sensibilities. I may make another viddie explaining some of them at a later point. In any event, once again...thanks for your kind words.

  • Thank you for your reply. As a future vet, I care about pets and animals in general :)

It is good to meet responsible owners who know how to deal with what they choose to get.

Keep up with the good work!

Wishing you luck and hope you teach every other owner the right ways!

  • Thanks again for your kind words. May you have an amazing career as a Vet. You have the first trait I look for in one...a caring heart. Best of luck to you.
