Where are you Mr Paul? This is a genial idea for third world countries,if i know how to come learn more from you,i will be really delighted.I´m in Germany but will be willing to travel dow n to ya.
Can your bicycle be used for transportation after disinfecting the water? How much does the unit cost? How long do the ultraviolet bulbs last? Have you considered the use of SODIS system which costs nothing and produces clean water?
excellent idea... this would be very useful in africa where a lot of water supliers are not for everybody´s using or its quality is not good due to infections. this is the kind of ideas that we need for a better planet.
I think you should get a round tube with mirror walls, then place the light to the center in the water. Wouldn't that be a lot more effective? And of course, i'd take that wind powered.
but seriously, the cleanest water is always distilled because its sterile. I would say u power a ultrasound membrane from ultrasound small room humidifier($30about), a fan to push the cold clean steam upward through an arced upward clear plastic fish tank tube then into a resevior. Both the tube and the resevior is blasted until u open the container as a safety mechanism.
this is the first one I've seen that uses UV. That's great for killing bacteria. Have you included anything that filters out particulates and heavy metals?
As an aquatics director for over 30 years, I've worked with many forms of disinfection for our swimming pools, including chlorine (liquid and granular), bromine, ozone, and ultraviolet light. I believe ultraviolet light is by far the most effective, so I am excited to see the way you are applying that technology to make water safe to drink for people who might have trouble getting clean water. Great idea. I've seen most of the videos and yours is the best.
Dr. Berg - The world needs more people who are concerned with the needs of the developing world. You are obviously a creative and dedicated humanitarian, not a greedy entrpreneur and I wish you the best. - FHW
Paul - You really did a nice job on this entry and your word choice with our mission can take this concept around the world! Thanks for all your efforts, and I hope to continue helping you improve and simplify this system with additional engineering! Blessings, Chris
Excellent invention, with huge potential for providing clean/safe drinking water for developing countries, or after catastrophic events. My vote for best invention! Nice job on the filming and editing as well :-)
indeed this is a great invetion but you would have to pedal slow or you would drink more water than you make because of thirst from pedaling :P but cool invention
great invention, it could be easily attached to any camper or military unit, as well as this they could peddle to the water hole and when they peddle home it is clean. and you can also fit it under the sink at a home. Good luck and all the very best
Best entry I have seen so far, the rest are rather pointless in that they all just create electricity and hook it up to a random appliance, like a tv or stereo. Yours on the other hand has a very sound reason to be pedal powered, and is truly useful. Good job.
Awesome invention! Practical too. Good luck in the Innovate or Die contest. This is a lot better than most of the stuff that has already been entered.

good work,
now just get it where it needs to go

This is simply great. Do you have to have the water stored somewhere to have it disinfected? Can this be attached to running tap water?

Long term of distilled water can leach essential nutrients from the body and can potentially lead to death.

This is groundbreaking. Truly, I wish that your idea would be more emphasized and talked about.

Great invention.
Really i mean it.
Im going to be studying engineering in 9 months and that is the kind of great idea i'd love to come up with.
5/5.
