Yes, they are missing the first ticks... and it may be because GETTING THE SQUEEZE WITHOUT TICKS IS ALREADY HARD ENOUGH O_O

ticks are points you get from sustains. 1 beat = 1 tick. 1 tick with a x4 is 4 points and under SP is 8 points. 1st place scores may come down to who can 1 more tick

1 beat of sustain = 25 ticks actually. It's the smallest amount of points you can squeeze in a sustain. The beginning and the end of the sustain contains a "burst" which contain multiple ticks. In this vid, he probably got a fat burst on the first activation.

A point you get from a sustain note. So basically when your activation ends on a hold, you get ticks from squeezing it in as early as possible, 1 tick being worth 4 points.
