  • hi! love this demo..but two questions, how did you create the glaze? also do you use finishing sprays with your completed mixed media pieces? if so, which would you suggest?

  • Sorry

  • how? how do you do it? i thought the guy was better though. but i cant use anything at all. i can sketch with a pencil but i cant use anything else i got new pastels though. that was amazing

  • I just rediscovered this video.. i just realized that you thought i was the girl back then! haha! thanks again Merrill.

  • cool vid :)

  • I THINK I'LL BE DOING THIS TECHNIQUE TOO TAHNK YOU I LEARNED A LOT! hey! I DO HATE OIL PASTELS TOO :)) too curious to try and make something as beautiful as what you did man!~

  • drawing clothing is not really boring. you just dont know how to perfect it so you hate it. well.. your a nice guy so you hear it from a nice guy to ^^

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I agree with all that you're saying about finding a comfortable medium and experimenting. That's really being creative. Nobody teaches that in art school...

  • this is my first time watching your videos and i must say i am truly, no, UTTERLY, inspired! (^.^) I look foward to your upcoming work!

  • good piece but i think you made a mistake look at it and then the real picture the arm of the guy looked detached and accidentally placed on the girl which is not correct to the picture.

  • it was a great video and i trued it just with oil pastels and i found that it is blend able with water so i tried doing that but it leaves behind some marks like the strokes and paper texture and i don't like that

i have not learned from any school so it may be a stupid question but help me if u can what should i do make it better

  • That woman's face hurts my eyes. She looks like the mouth of Souron without the mask. That dude is too good looking to be with that girl.

  • If I sent you a picture would you draw it? And add some color to it? If so... How much would it cost? Thanks for all your really nice videos. Dude.... You really got some talent!

  • I love your work!

  • hey really nice mix media technique.......i have never worked with ilustration markers before....i bought a set cause i think they are really interesting to work with....i have a question....i like to use canvases....is there any problem to use the markers and color pencil under the oil paint on the cotton canvas? can samething happend if i mix any of this medias on a long period of time?

    thank you and nice works!!!!!

  • heey, i watched a few of your videos And you really got talent. ive been watchen them so i can learn some new things. i always had a problem with hands and face features. im 16 but i know if i practice i could get good at it. theres no way i can do the oil stuff u did in this video or even get my art work to be identical to a photo but u are really good at it. keep it up

  • ah its been a while since i've watched one of your videos! ,

i have recently started working with oils (which seprising is going very well considering all i ever use to paint with was water colour).

my art teacher told me about the liquin, but when she showed me it, it was all gloopy o.o ... i like alot how you used it to spread the oil pastles (that was clever :D ) ... hope to watch more videos soon

  • HEY can you draw me ill send you a pic

  • is it just me or does the girl's shoulder fuse into the guy's arm?

  • Wow! I always wondered if colored pencil could be mixed with oil paints, and now you added a new dimension with the oil pastels! I am going to try this on a portrait I'm working on. Two question.....Can you use this technique on canvas or will the colored pencils have a hard time sticking with the coarseness of the support? Can it be varnished in the traditional oil painting way, or will it crack? Thank you for the education!!!

  • Background sucks.

  • @AgentSandsProduction I do own a bottle of Galkyd, but I have used it sparingly. I barely remember it to tall you the truth.....You jarred my memory though and I think that I will try it again. I will give you a better answer after I do!

  • Awesome! I've noticed it's hard for a lot of people to show dimension with that medium, but you nailed it! :)

  • @SayaLetih Thank you so much. I guess that I had to turn the pastels in to something closer to paint to make it fully make sense....But im glad that you liked the end result!

    -Merrill :)

  • you actually inspired mo to go try mixed media. because i was actually hesitant about mixed media. :) but after seeing your works, it really made me excited to go try it.

keep up your good work ^^

  • @fushigibliss For the longest time, I called myself a "painter", but when I thought about it.....there are so many cool tools out there that do so many things!!! Good luck, let me know how it goes! You can always post your creations on youtube!

    MK :)

  • Inspiring work Merrill

  • @SonsOfPride Thank you Geomar!!! :)

  • Hi, i just want to know what type of paper you usually use with oil paint. i have done some trial painting with oil paint on canvas, and i don't know where else i could use oil paint.

great videos by the way. they're really helpful

  • @fushigibliss I use Borden and Riley 108lb Bleedproof marker paper (It can definitely withstand oil paint and pastels).....I have a section on my website called "supplies I use" that might be helpful to you. Thank you for the kind comment!

    Merrill :)

  • I love the finished product. I don't think oil pastels get enough love. =) Only question I have is, is it ok to put oil paint over oil pastel? I'm asking because when I looked it up, the sources I saw advised against that, saying that it could cause the oil paint to crack in the long run (they said to put the pastel over the paint instead). Is this a hard and fast rule, or is it just dependent on how much product is being layered?

  • @pharoahofdreamers I dont really know to tell you the truth. I did consider that before I made this, but I know that oil pastels are made with the same materials as oil paint (binder and pigment with a lot of gum arabic). I use the liquin over the pastels to make it more "paint like".....and it actually feels like paint when you brush the liquin over the pastels. ....(more)

  • @pharoahofdreamers (continued)...I dont really worry about permanence though, because our generation of artists will display their work as a performance on youtube rather than a still image in a museum. Thanks for the comment!

    MK :)
