Any idea on how to make a good makeshift hairlight. I'm using a black backdrop and need to distinguish the hairline from the backdrop so it doesnt just look like a face. I dont have money to buy a proper hairlight lol. Thanks!
@ThePisceanLibranic place a light directly behind your subject. this will create a separation around the hair for sure. Give it a try. It is a different look but achieves a similar result =o)
Great Tutorial Video. I like you style of explaining/teaching. As someone else mentioned in previous comment, you look relaxed and you add some humour too. Very cool and informative. I've watched a lot of your video and I liked them all. Great!!!!!
Good Video bro, but you should condiser using a light meter to get fast readings and you don't have to buy one but, you can always rent it... you will save a lot of time... but also I'm sure you know your lights and you can kind of eyeball it... just saying... also consider the life of your shutter....
Very good style of presentation, I am confident that if you keep at it you will do well. Real relaxed, good confidence and chatter. I enjoyed viewing...
Most straightforward look at studio lighting that I can find on Youtube. Well done, man. I like that you don't cut out the chatter between you and the model - that's so key to making good photos. Commentary is all spot-on.
@piroclips I didn't have time to crop all the pictures afterwards and more focused on the lighting aspects and posing as I shot the pictures. Teaching while shooting was new to me at this time.
fun vids man, me like! I too noticed the headroom above the images (have you ever been a cruise ship photographer??). I am wondering as to why you didn't crop in camera?
Not a negative point, just wondering......Keep up the good work bro.
@itscaseplace There is a whole DVD which is not on youtube at all. It is my Intermediate Studio Lighting "Nudes" DVD and it is goes into greater depth about shaping and controlling light to get some great images and effects. Also the Studio lighting Essentials DVD has an extra 25 minutes of tutorials that are not on youtube.
The Mastery of Photography Essentials has a whole chapter that is not on youtube and some great DVD ROM extras, as do all the DVDs.
Would just like to say thanks for giving us you time, tips and knowledge. im quite new to photography and want to master the basics as quickly as possable. Ill have to give your dvd a spin as my local college has stopped teaching photography. Keep up the good work bro
The canon 550D of course. Get a decent lens a 17 to 55 f2.8 or if you would be shooting for a very long time a 24 to 70 L. A lens is a companion for life buy the camera body will come and go.
what are you shooting with and the lens,

Awesome stuff bro!
I have a question:
I want to buy a DSLR but have no clue which to go for. I'm not a pro, but this is definitely becoming a serious hobby for me.
At the moment I REALLY like Long exposures, landscape and cityscape shots.
Any recommendations?
Thanks, bro. And keep them videos coming!
