  • How long should you let this ferment?

  • lol pirate mead XD.

  • "Thus proving that you're a viking!"

  • Hahaha love these guys! Proud of being a swedish viking :D

  • My favorite drinking buddy, let's get some mead...!

  • @claews

No theres no danger in drinking homemade mead, i drink my mead i make and im fine other than having peculiar dreams about vikings

  • @claews

Theres no methanol in mead, theres only methanol if your distilling but distiling is illegal in the states

  • Good tutorial on their part, but they should give credit to Joe (The recipe they did was Joe's Ancient Orange - look it up!)

  • holy shit i got here by typing in awesome mead and vikings and its two of my favorite things mead and amon amarth!!!!!!!!!

  • ikea ftw

  • This inspired me to brew some mead.

Did it a lot neater than here though :)

I think they shouldve mentoined the fact that you have to rack it after like a month

If you don't, it will taste very yeasty which is something you DONT want

  • @kazaakas Their method is the ghetto way of making mead.

  • @kazaakas Can you elaborate on how exactly to rack a gallon jug like they are using here? I'm almost a month into my first batch and I don't want to screw it up.

  • That's an epic god damn beard.

  • this is so... epic, mead with AA!!! \m/

  • I have a 5 Gallon brewing up right now, its coming up on one year. The mead they are drinking at the end is Danish Mead, the brown one on the right is Viking Blod its flavored with Hibiscus and its righeous and slightly red. They also make Vikingernes Mjod ( viking Mead), which comes in a white bottle and is flavored with Hops, I cannot recommend this one Enough, it's what I want my Mead to taste like. I could drink this for the rest of my days and ask nothing more of the Gods =). ALL HAIL!

  • @BlackStormAngel i hav e the white one at home and also another brown one but i don't know wich one ;)

  • @wrestlingfan12321 , There's the Darker Brown Bottle which is the Viking Blod and then there's a Light Tan Brown One, which is the Ginger one. Which is also good and even better if you like Ginger =). *Pours a Horn, Raises it!* HAIL!

  • I would be a lot warmer and a lot happier with a a bellyful of mead.

  • I don't think I would add anything but honey. That's just me though.

  • @ TMTours saying they are professional is a joke, picky dick lol

  • you know your nordic when you can drink more mead then your friends can drink beer lol

  • Ah. What Scandinavians...

Talking about our proud heritage, while being generally pretty reserved. Until someone crosses us.

  • What about methanol? Is this dangerous in any way?

  • @Claews methanol will kill you. ethanol is the alchohol that is found in fermented drinks I.E.beer,mead,wine. it is also what a distillery distills from something that been fermented, mostly from grains nowadays. there are a few companies that use potatoes (the original vodka) or grapes, if it has sugar and water it can be fermented.potatoes don't have sugars. it has starch and after a short heating/cooking and an added enzyme added the starch is converted to sugars

  • @avelloch Yes, I meant if making mead will produce any methanol as a biproduct? Usually when you brew at home you have to be careful.. I know this is the case with vodka.

So basically Im asking if theres any risk to go blind from drinking home-made mead ;)

    thanks for the info though!

  • Sambucus nigra Elder berry

  • wow hegg's english is very....american xD is he half american or something?

  • @DarthPietrus Most Swedes speak very good English especially if they are from Southern Sweden.

  • LADIES.... GENTLEMEN...... these are NORDS.... they know what theyre doing :P

  • @MrGamerman001

Everyone is gonna call Scandinavians Nords after Skyrim came out. While the game brought to my attention an alcoholic beverage that I never tried, in no way am I interested because of the game.

No. I think something made out of distilled honey, fruits and spices sounds fucking delicious. And it's a great way to get cheap alcohol...

  • i bought. 1 large bottle of honey. 1 pack of yeast and a bucket. mixed them all together with a gallon of water.... now we play the waiting game :D

  • my two favorite things amon amarth (metal) and viking mead. lol I make my ancestors proud

  • Made a batch 5 months ago using this video, cracked it open on my 21st. HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT'S AMAZING.

  • I want drinking horns now..

  • Is it really picky of me that I'm bothered by the gating of the sound on this video? It is, isn't it... I'll get my coat

  • the 1st recipe of anything close to mead was from chichester about 112-115 years before the vikings invaded the fair isle of england, they prob learned it or it was sold and exported before the vikings were better buisnessmen than warriors

  • What the FUCK is that sound at 2:11

  • Professional mead brewers? Not that professional if they don't know the correct term is Mazer LOL

Why a Melomel though? wouldn't a Cyser be better for a first try (not to mention much quicker to ferment out).

  • does this actually work, has anyone tried it yet?

  • @ozzman1212 It should work, but you need to get all the honey and water mixed together very well. It might also not be very strong because the yeast might not be strong enough to survive in the alcohol it makes. You can buy specail yeasts that can survive in 30% alcohol to volume or better.

  • @oddcarl1 does it have to sit for the 6 months like said in the video?, i heard somewhere its good after like 2 weeks

  • @ozzman1212 There will be alcohol after two-three weeks, but it will be better and stronger if you let it sit or age. If you are going to let it sit, I recomend seperating the yeast from the rest of the mead after the first three weeks. Pour it into another milk jug through some cheese cloth very slowly, you don't want to get it stirred up or bubbly. Then put another balloon on it and let it sit. It will continue to ferment a little bit and it will taste better. How this will taste I don't know

  • @ozzman1212 Uhh,, it's been tested for thousands of years.

  • This video is full of win.

  • They should sell an official Amon Amarth Mead/Drinking Horn

  • this is funniest shit ive seen in awhile haha

  • Aha danke für das gute Rezept ! Braue ich gleich nach !

    Grins !

  • Today I made two gallons of mead using this method, one gallon using grapes and apples and the other using grapefruit and pears and I can't wait to see how it turns out! Amon Amarth fucking rocks and I can't wait to get shit faced drinking my homemade "Amon Amarth" mead!

  • Apparently, 5 people are the Slaves of Fear!!! \m/ -.- \m/

  • Arr! Vikings! I just want to ask vhat is that 'powder' that you spill in the water jugs , after youadd oranges?

  • @Cekyrevenger it's dry yeast

  • TILL VALHALL!

  • You should heat the honey so it will flow well, and use a funnel.

  • iwas making mead for 3 year and saw this video,my method is working also.my mead have 17% to 19% of alcohol

  • If there is anyone I want to learn how to make mead from, its these guys! And I love how he encourages us to make it in our parents basement. hahaha

  • Ha, I listen to Amon Amarth and already have mead like this fermenting in my dorm room closet. What a coincidence I should find this video.

  • i use the same recipe. turns out awsome everytime.glad i found this video ima big amon amarth fan. its nice to see we use the same recipe.

  • needs more wenches

  • Ok, so I was looking for a tutorial on brewing mead and I found this video, i've a MASSIVE amon amarth fan, so this is pretty much the best video ever for me :D

  • all there shirts are the same color

  • aaaaaghhhh fuck sakes see metal awesome

Justin beaver or how ever the fuck you spell his last name.

"this is my video on sucking dick"

  • The Orange also increases the acidity of the must which promotes yeast activity... and the decomposing raisins release nitrate (a yeast nutrient).... careful, the fruit may also produce harmful cultures to complete with the yeast.

  • Only 25 raisins, LOL!

  • can making your own mead blind you lol ?

  • @belfastgiants09 no, well yes if it expoldes and glass gets in your eyes, other than that no it cant

  • @belfastgiants09 making Beer, Cider, Wine, Mead ect is fine it's only distilled alcohol like Whiskey, Wodka, Rum, Sambuca, ect that can blind you if prepared wrongly other than that it's fine

  • 4 people are not vikings

  • made some a couple hours ago, except with apple instead of oranges, thought it'd be a little more authentic. hope it don't make me blind :3

  • Comment removed

  • My recipe for meade, 5 gallons of water, 15 pounds of honey, some oranges for flavoring and meade yeast

  • @BlackScorpio1990 yes, you need to keep it out of the sun regardless if it's beer, wine, or Meade, I've been brewing for two years

  • A shot-glass horn??? LOLOL.... very good.

  • 8:13.. Was that a belch disguised as a growl? :D Aahh.. The art of Viking deception!

  • 2:12 wtf :D

  • Do you need to keep it out of the light or what?

  • I made mead because of this video and its 6 months old so far

  • The way he says "The School of mead" is freaking hilarious!

  • This is funny because i play a little Amon Amarth each day for my batch of mead to make it tastier and more brutal.

  • 3 people drink bad white wine.

  • anyone know what brand of mead they are drinking at the end?

  • this recipe doesnt take 6 months. after a month put it in the freezer for a day & all the yeast will sediment out, & you're good to go.

or use a gallon of fruit juice & a cup of sugar, that works great too.

  • DE AWRT OV MEADERY

  • fk i love metal

  • Haha this is fucking awesome! haha.

  • yes yes yes wake up in a ditch somewhere lol fuck yeah

  • This is the best thing ever, I Love Mead and Amon Amarth.

  • Well I know what I'm doing this summer!

  • @TheRealDramaSteve im gonna do it all year!!!!!

  • I am going to do this.

  • Hegg's beer gut is awesome. I love these guys

  • Drinking Horn. FUCKING METAL!!! \m/

  • i heard some where that the first stage of fermentation produces a really pungent smell that lingers is that true or not?

  • Does Hegg usually pronounce his name with a normal J instead of the Y sound?

  • @thekingofgingers I think it is a blend of the 2 sounds....at least it is supposed to be...but yea I was taken aback by that,

  • Hmm thats funny i made some mead but to gallon of water i used 3 pounds of honey and it doesnt taste anything of honey... Maybe it just needs to mature in bottles im not sure

  • @jubjub13483 i found that most recipes tend to be between 3-5 pounds of honey per gallon of water. obviously the more honey the sweeter. I prefer my mead drier which is why i tend to go on the 3 pound side of things. My meads also tend to hover around the 18% alcohol level so I need to let them stay in the bottles for a longer period of time to let the flavour settle. otherwise it has the kick of gasoline :P

  • @narkosys Ah thats proably why, haha i think mine tastes that kinda level not sure though knocked my uncle out once though ahha! ah thank you that maybe why :) Do you think maybe couple of months then ok to drink?

  • @jubjub13483 Definitely. Give it a few more months and it should be drinkable. My first batch took a good 6-8 months of sitting before it was drinkable. Mead gets smoother the longer it sits.

  • @narkosys Thanks man i will! Thats why i love metal everyone so friendly together :D till we get to mosh pit and we kill everyone haha

  • 3 dislikes, cant be vikings!

  • my mead last brewing had 17% of alkohol >_> fu***** delicious

  • I made my first ever batch of mead today doing it exactly the way they do here. I hope it turns out good.

  • yes i have and it doesnt make the best mead but it was good

  • Has anyone tried making it this way?

    Was it good?

    Appreciate your answers.

    M!!!

  • @miguelcarvalho2008 yeah Ive been doing fir for a while. he was wrong about the oranges they don't add much flavor in the initial fermentation stage, and they didn't mix it well enough at all, but other then that this is a good way to make it.

  • @Judokkaa Thanks for your answer!

  • @miguelcarvalho2008 you always want to 'rack' the mead after a month, that just means siphoning it into a new container and leaving all the sediment and oranges etc. behind. If you're serious about making it check out "epicfantasy" it's a youtube channel with more in depth videos.

  • what's the normal percent of alcohol in mead?

  • @metaddiction I typically get about 12-14%

  • If i had seen it sooner i would have made this 6 moths ago so it would be done by the release of the new album.!

  • MEAD IS GOOD BUT YAKS BLOOD IS BETTER

  • Thank you Amon Amarth! I loves you!

  • I love it :) where do i get the yeast like they use or can i use regular yeast

  • @PossessedDonutz they used bakers yeast you get at the grocery store, but its better to use a wine yeast from a brew shop.

  • Warm the honey up (while in the jug) by placing it in some warm water. It will be easier to pour, dissolve easier and not sink to the bottom of the jug like that.

  • @texabamabrackish Thanks for the tip o/

  • I lol'd @ ted showing off his tits at 1:16

  • Looks like a simplified version of Joe's ancient orange mead. (No spices)

  • Where can you buy yeast?

  • @enemyofgod Just find a local brewers' shop. You can also order it online. Making "moonshine mead" like this, you could just go to the supermarket and ask for bread yeast, but brewers' yeast or champagne yeast is designed for such beverages (sorry if i'm being a total snob lol).

  • mead is delicious me and my friends brewed it in his dorm room

  • I make my own home brew. Well I didn't invent the brew but I bet I make the best mead in Scandinavia, and I make it the old way and spice it with a swedish flower called fläder and lingonberry. I store it in a wooden barrel and I pick the spices myself of my own land. The honey I buy from my neighbour who has beehive. The water comes from my mountain well. I make my own wild jeast to ferment it. I could get rich selling this stuff.

  • johan söderberg, i picked you to be the mead maker and porer(guy in middle)

ted lundstrom, "man" saw right through you, who are you, when we meet you "man" will be looking at you, we are not liking what we are seeing from google images.

johan hegg, your place is right you will need to figure out some stuff on your own tip: your voice

who brought you guys the horns? i need to know its scewed

i will be visiting you guys, theres some changes thats going to take place with your music

  • fläääderbärs saft!!!!!

  • lol hay in the us if your under 21 MAKE THIS

    lol fuck the law 21

  • @confettistar Or least as good as extinct. LESS than 1% of all meat n stuff contains it. And the majority of the cases with salmonella is from foreign food. Practically nobody ever gets salmonella in Sweden.

  • @Confettistar Actually, salmonella is extinct in Sweden (and nope, I'm not joking).

  • this inspired me to brew my own mead. and come out good!

a friend of mine actually used this tutorial and worked a treat! much easier than beer etc.

  • johan's voice is fucking awesome! Even when he's just talking!

  • Hmm, they didn't sterilze anything or wear gloves. Is Swedish Ecoli and Salmonella less virulent? Maybe Vikings don't get the shits.

  • Glögg är godare!? :) xD

  • @Celanism fett inte

  • @alimamma121 dah.. ;o

  • surprisingly good english, i figured theyd be strugling worse than Toke and Skwisgaar

  • 6 months?! yeah right. i was considering making it this weekend or something. but now no way! heh

  • You know sometimes I don't get the whole wait period. I recently just finished some mead (750mL) and (this will make a lot of people cringe and hate me) drank it after a week. Sure it didn't taste excellent, but it wasn't half bad and got me drunk ha. However, I did leave about 6 oz in the bottom because of yeast sediment and after a few days got around to wanting to dump the rest.

  • But what I noticed was that the remainder of the mead was crystal clear. Literally all of the sediment had fallen and settled on the bottom. I had to try some of it, so I poured some in a shot glass and it tasted pretty much how I would suspect a store bought mead to taste like. It was real strong too. I just wonder if I had let the whole batch sit if it would have done the same in only a few days.

  • Im in the process of making mead now, Fermenting well and have switched the baloon with an actuall airlock haha. If anyone else has done the same thing let me know how its goin as well

  • ...awesome we have the same drinking horn

  • I just made a quite small batch of this mead, now it's just to wait for six months (and hope my parents won't find it). :D

  • @SimonDaNinja2 Hide it in the woods, like a norseman. Build something to hide it in away from alot of heat and direct sunlight, Odin will be pleased :D

  • @lairofwolves Haha, only problem is that it's winter season here in sweden right now, and about -16 degree celsius (the same as 1.4 Fahrenheit) in the middle of the day, even colder during night time, so it would become ice after like only an hour or so. :P

  • *after cutting half the bottle of

  • Could it work with only 0.66 gallon? (Alot easier to hide from the parents :p)

Does the fermentation cause alot of smell? If so, is it true you can take a small plastic bottle, stuff the opening with cotton and fill the rest of the bottle with coal, and use it instead of the balloon to get red of the smell? :)

  • Awesome! :D You search for "mead" on youtube, and you emidiatly find this! :D

  • Seriously, those meads they taste in the very end ARE SO FRIGGIN EFFING DELICIOUS YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT! It's fairly expensive, but DAYUHMN, they taste good!

And the real mead is pronounced "mjöd", which is pretty much how it is spelled.

  • Comment removed

  • he is a real giant!!!

  • " THE SCHOOL OF MEAD! " lol his voice is awesome.

  • @shiroisan87 Much like Seth Rogan

  • i heard there's a certain kind of yeast you use.

  • damn, b-day is in a month 5 months too soon =D

  • 5:15 YOU SEE IT VERKING! Johan Söderberg...one funny dude and one of the best guitar players EVER!!!

  • 2:13 what the fuck are they doing?

  • @AwesomeArson An ancient Viking Mead ritual

  • @AwesomeArson It sounded like them trying to sound like Julia Childs

  • Approved!!!

  • Just started a batch today. Apples and Cinnamon flavor. That will be perfect for the dead of winter when it's done.

  • Lol! I totally agree with ae20jargon. I typed in mead in the search and holy shit, there's Amon Amarth the mascot for bad ass vikings in modern times standing there giving great instructions on how to make the stuff. Totally awesome find.

  • I'm thinking of making real swedish mead this summer and lots of it. If so I'm gonna buy honey from my neighbour who's a beekeeper. I was gonna use fläder or elderberries aswell, but since it's late summer now I can't use the flowers as I usually do when I make lemonade. Does anyone know if the berries taste the same as the flowers when you boil them up?

I also wanna give the tip that it's nice to add lemmon when you use elderberries. I don't think ill use it in the brew directly though.

  • dude...thats fucking awesome...i fuckin love amon amarth even more now

  • "I would prefer elderberrys" XD
