ruud gullit was the catalyst that made chelsea what it is today..and he gets no recognition wotsoever, he bought in the big names like zola, vialli and the rest is history......with that schtupid wickg.
...Abramovich made Chelsea what it is today (a rich man's play-thing) They were hugely in debt from this brief era of moderate success of midtable and the odd cup, by being bank-rolled by another sugar daddy. Abramovich saved them from likely extinction
I was at this game. Gullit had the ball for 10-15 seconds before he scored, and was wandering round fruitlessly looking for a decent pass to make before deciding to shoot instead. It was one of the greatest goals I've ever seen, though without the build-up you can't see that from this footage. I remember Chelsea conceding a late, late equaliser (to Clive Allen, from memory) as a result of some abysmal defending. I also remember that City ended up being relegated that season.
@nkotani101 You're getting your games/years mixed up. This was in 95/96 and the score was 1-1....but Nigel Clough equalised (also in the first half). The Clive Allen equaliser was in 1989/90.
