Still, thanks for the great upload - tremendously moving song !!!

  • love it!

  • wow her version sucks!

    nothing better like the original!!

the mars volta did a good cover of this.

  • @Chingeesoraus Shut up stupid....

  • This is slick, but not a patch on any version by soft machine, that bleeding sax is insipid crap. isn't this one of Kevins compositions? If you like this I suggest you tube the original version which is awesome. The production on this is of course massive, but even so that saxs sucks and either witney dosn't get this song or the song don't get witney

  • that is Archie Shepp on the sax...I saw Whitney and her mom, at the old Sweetwaters in Manhattan, before her first album, when this album was her first recorded song...

  • Soft Machine!

  • Can anyone direct me to more songs along this sort of balladry vein by Whitney?

  • Thank you for sharing this gem of a track!

  • where do you find these songs?

  • Have you heard Bobbi Kristina sung with Whitney on "My love is your love"? She did it in 2007.. And Bobbi Kristina's is very similliar with Whitney's here!

  • where can u find that???

  • Material's album titled "One Down". It may also be on a Best of compilation from the band, which wasn't really a band, but a collection of NYC downtown hotshots (Laswell, Beinhorn, along with legends like Archie Shepp, Fred Frith, Sonny Sharock, etc.), circa 1982

  • For real? Is it on youtube? no I looked.

It would great to hear her daughter sing if that gift went to another woman in that family I want to sue somebody LMAO!!!

  • This is my favorite Whitney vocal hands down.

  • Wow

I Found This Song 7 Hours Ago And I Just Made A SICK ASS Rap Beat Of It

I Can't Believe Nobody Sampled This.!

  • she really sounds soo young hear!

  • i love u whitney

  • I love this song so much! I remember my father playing this when I was little.. =]

  • jesus... this is old soft machine and robert wyatt song written by hugh hopper from canterbury!

  • everytime I see pictures of Whitney I can't stop thinking what a beauty she is, gorgeous. Love Whitney!

  • ...stayed with Material or at least followed that route instead of sticking wht Clive and Arista and being the Whitney that we all know today. Hmmm.

  • Thanks so much for posting. I felt like a Whitney mood so I listened to her old hits and read somewhere that before she was WHITNEY she was in this funky jazz gorup Material, and I was like, no way was she in that. Can't believe the Whitney that I know and admire would be in a more experimental group. Wanted to find out myself so I tried hearing the Material albums (interesting stuff btw) but couldn't find this song until I went here. Wow. Amazed. Makes you think what would've happen if she ...

  • thanks for posting. what's that cock-and-bull story about "unreleased"? A friend of mine is sure to have seen the 7'' for sale back in 1982. (Celluloid CEL NY193)

  • Love this song. Love this video. Got the vid on the front page of my channel. Props to yumy81.

  • I JUST got the album today! I also like the Nona song and Don't Lose Control. 1982 was probably the most influential '80s music year, along with the release of Thriller and MTV booming (everything by say 1987, seemed so formulatic (i.e., the Whitney album!)

  • I NEVER heard this song. Ever.

  • I love this song. GOOD JOB on the video. These clips fit together perfectly. Especially at 1:28!!

  • It's you again. Can't stop following Whitney around can you? Haven't you got anything better to do with your time? Get a life loser. She's richer and much more successful than you will ever be. Whitney (THE VOICE) is back with a new album in 2009.Didn't read your last comment, and won't read your reply either, so don't bother. Sad loser.

  • Oh and for you to keep going on every Whitney Youtube site to leave negative comment, just shows how pathetically sad you are. You don't even know the woman. Grow up!!! Like I said, I won't even bother reading your replies. Have a nice life!

  • "look how innocent and cute, now shes hard and anything but innocent." And I suppose you are a pure and snow white virgin. Please. Stop pointing fingers.

  • yimheretoday, Then, you need to see Amy Whinehouse, She looked more like a druggie mess than Whitney Houston did. And eww, I hate Amy's horse voice, she needs to go back to the ocircus side show she was brought up from! Whitney Houston is better than that crack whore Amy whinehouse and I don't think Amy should even have a career in singing. She is just a hopeless joke.

  • the song was written by Hugh Hopper, the bassist of british jazz rock group Soft Machine then, and originally sung by Robert Wyatt for Daevid Allen's 1971 album "Banana Moon". check this recording and you will find what Whitney missed at the age of 18.

  • i love her so much.her voice is greatest in the world........

  • This piano intro is very similar to the one in "I Want To Spend My Lifetime Loving You"..

  • i miss youre voice!!

    pls comeback!!

  • She was not 14. Whitney Houston was 19 years old in 1982, but the vocals were supposedly recorded when she was 18. Impressive nonetheless.

  • she was 14 here?! her voice was still developing, but, she sounds so good! she seriously is the best singer in the world.

  • I second that...she is the greatest, but here she was 19 almost 20 this was recorded in 1982. People sat things without merit.

  • The REAL material girl!

  • This song is sooooooooooooo BEAUTIFUL HER VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL THE BEST OF ALL.

  • she's beautiful!!

  • I second that.....WHITNEY RULESSSSSSS then and now she sounded amazing even at 14:-)

  • She was 14 here???

MAn, i saw a video of her singing in church when she was like 11 and she sounded extraordinary.

The fact that she's 14 here and sounds so mature is amazing.

  • YEA!! I saw that video too, she was AMAZING and had a gigantic voice for her age for real...I sure hope bobbikris can sing like that or close to it, that will be great:))

  • It's great. sounds like a song that could be sung in a jazz club or sumthin.

  • I love this song wow first time hearing the young whitney @ her best, I miss her soooo much cant wait for the new album, pray she rewrites HISTORY.....AGAIN! I love her no matter WHAT.

  • Beautiful

    thank u

  • Why is she wearing a "W" on her blouse? Did she smoke so much rock she forgot her own name?

  • lol u so crazy

  • You can find the song on eMule (P2P program). Search for "Whitney Houston RARE Best Hits.rar". There are 2 files, with 19 and 9 rare songs. Share them!. And enjoy!

  • @yumy81 thanx

  • I said it once, I'll say it again. Whitney needs to hook back up with Bill Laswell/Material and do an Avant-Garde/R&B/Jazz Fusion style album...this song reminds me of Blade Runner for some reason!!!

  • Beautiful ballad and video,

    Thanks:)

  • THIS IS A GEM OF VOCAL GYMNASTICS - only whitney can add soooo much depth & emotion to a song. The key sung in this song is PERFECT.

One of my favourite whitney songs ever...and a well composed video too!!
