  • Stop the engines and feather before touchdown IMO, unless it's a short field. A go around with one engine In a loaded light twin is not advisable.

  • I like how the emergency vehicles are like, "GO GO GO! ...wait, lolwut?"

  • Surely the starboard prop must have struck the ground during the wheel collapse?

So now he's flying an aircraft that has a damaged starboard wing/engine/prop in a go around situation that requires as much power as possible. Think i'd let it roll to a full stop rather than flying an aircraft where half was scraping on tarmac a few seconds ago lol.

  • rush of blood

  • Damn, if he was floating too far down the runway then he needed to go around before he put it on the ground. I think this pilot misunderstood the meaning of "fly the plane all the way through the crash."

  • Holly Crap. To all you lower time multi guys. DONT EVER DO THIS! Once you are down stay down!

  • how did that right engine not fall apart? u could clearly see the prop must have hit the ground since the under side of the engine was on the ground for a bit, worst ADM ever. had to have crashed after that too. bad idea .

  • worst possible decision, in fairness tho im sure he panicked but defo needs a copurse in adm!

  • if he hits the right prop that would not have been nice at all trying to climb with a gear malfunction, structural damage and 80% less performance very bad ADM if you ask me.

  • I think this plane had more going on than gear collapse, the fire trucks were on the way to the runway before it even touched down.

  • why did he go around?

  • @pimpmytafel

Its not a go around if he touched down. He essentially did a touch and go. Not that it maters, just saying.

  • how did the right prop not hit the ground?

  • Not quite sure why he went back up?

  • It should have groundlooped and exploded!

  • Peguei você Milan, treinando RMAPismo ? hihi

  • An aborted emergency landing? Once you're down with a gear malfunction, I'd say you're quite committed, no?

This guy needs a refresher course in ADM.

  • @X6insane6X I dont think the pilot even knows what ADM is. seeing as how he took off witha Fd up plane.

  • This is a perfect example of how not to do this. Don´t go for a normal landing with an unsafe gear indication and just see what happens when you touch down.

If you decide or you have to land with an unsafe landing gear indication just feather both props and shut down both engines during the flare, put the plane smoothly down (of course pick an airport with long and wide runway) and expect the gear to fail.

  • @Aron757 Have you considered that the pilot was doing a touch and go to check if the wheels were locked, and upon seeing that they weren't, decided to use full power to get into the air, and reassess what options are available to him?

  • I think it was a really bad idea to t/o again,i mean taking off with one engine is foolish enough plus nw you can't even feather the bad one bz of the prop strike. The emergency vehicles were already there and the damage to the a/c was already done

  • @samkoc2889 I'd take my chances at another circuit with only one engine than run off the end of the runway, that's the only reason I could think of him taking off again.

  • @samkoc2889 well the pilot took the decision for a reason so...all these comments seem a little fool to me.

  • It almost went from a perfectly safe gear up landing to a disaster - you make a decision to land you stick with it. Or you end up doing dangerous stuff with not time to think it through. :)

    - that's my point of view now fire away the comments 1-2-3 go.

  • I totally agree. That pilot became a test pilot for a unairworthy aircraft after that aborted landing. If the alt gear extend checklist was complete, decide either gear up or gear down and fly a stablised approach. I would take a rough landing to a inadvertent VMC Demo in a damaged aircraft.

  • I agree. The landing was perfectly safe. He was better off letting the a/c come to a complete stop. T/o again is risking a lot for the worst to happen. Now with a much more damaged a/c in the air. Only God knows! I hope he finished it fine!

  • lucky he did not lose that right engine and Vmc the thing. And even if he managed to get it to Vyse no way he would be able to climb with 1) that prop all bend up like that you can't just feather it - it won't work 2) If the gear is all jacked up you might not be able to retract it.

  • He did the right thing. Take off again then attempt an emergency landing when fully prepared. Gives him a chance to get the gear up and make a belly up approach on to the runway with the probably damaged engine shut down. That's if it or the propeller actually were damaged. Less chance of digging the props into the ground and spinning/flipping over, then just shut both engines down with doors ready to open and leave the aircraft post haste!!! IMO

  • Why would he not be fully prepaired? I saw emergency trucks waiting for him. That means he contacted the tower to say he has a gear indication problem. Since he is aware, I HOPE he did the alternate extension of the gear. If that pilot allready did the procedure, then its not going to get any better after scraping a wing down the runway. PS,do you really think a thin alluminum blade will flip over a seneca? We are not talking C150 here. That is about 3800lbs (gross 4000 for landing)

  • Well if he was prepared he wouldn't have attempted to land with gear down if he knew there was a problem. And maybe he wouldn't flip but spinning around is certainly a plausible scenario.

  • I agree. Spinning is likely.. About not prepared, I was holding short when i saw a arrow about to land and I could see one of the gear was not locked down. I told the tower (and the pilot as well) and the tower asked if the arrow pilot heard my report. He said "yea i heard, I thought it was only a indication, I am going to leave the pattern to do the alt gear extend procedure"!!! I wish I was working for the FAA back then!

  • why touch and go?

  • That would have scared the crap out of me

  • MAybe he jumped out. LOL jk

  • lol that is the most realistic outcome

  • ameture

  • Why taking off again when you already crash-landed? that was a stupid unsafe reaction STAY ON THE GROUND MORON!!!!

  • Stupid. He was already on the ground! Why, oh why, in the world would you ever go back up when you clearly have no landing gear on one side, and only God knows how much OTHER frame damage from the first impact?

This gut reaction probably cost this pilot. That yoke never should have been pulled back.

  • Agreed

  • I will bet that his right propeller and engine were shot.....I am also suprised that the pilot powered up for takeoff. Does anyone have a clue why?

  • From the perspective view, he may have run out of runway...

  • i agree

  • So where did he land eventually?? I am surprised he took off again!

  • He should have tried to land it on the grass parallel to the runway : he would have put less damage to his airplane...

  • You don't know what you're talking about. You then have the chance of digging into the dirt and flipping over if you attempt an emergency landing on the grass/dirt. Always land on the hard surface.

  • I didn't see it that way, but nonetheless a good idea. Don't be too mad about it... ;-)

  • Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad, just stating a fact. If you have runway use it, always. :)

  • I wish I don't have to use this advice, but I will remember if the moment comes up.

A day you don't learn anything is useless... ;-)

  • Yes, but after slapping the wing on the runway you risk much more by going back up into the air. Engine damage etc...

  • Cool vid. He should write a letter thanking his propeller mfr.
