I liked this song more before they redid it and made it less swingtime-esque. During their shows Elfman used to run into the audience, pick up some babe, carry her off-stage and return zipping up his pants during the middle sax solo.
Thanks guys for all the incredible nights at Madame Wongs and the Whiskey!
This was on a 10 inch album with 4 songs-Only A Lad, Violent Love on side 1 and Aint This the Life, I'm So Bad on side 2. From 1980 on IRS. I have it.
this song I believe was on a smaller demo album before only a lad came out. It only had like four or six songs on it and it wasn't a full size lp. These guys played at my high school in L.A. in the early eighties. Didn't seem that cool at the time cause you thought there would always be good bands. Bunch of clones now a days.
Our clan uses several of HIs songs as part of our rituals..Dead Mans part and no one lives forever and OMG let me tell you this man either KNOWS he's a genius or he's utterly in the dark.
man i'm reading all these comments on how all u guys got to see Oingo boingo......I was only 7 when they broke up......sounds like u guys had the time of your lives......if i could only go back in time & experience Boingo live......
Great american band.Elfman is so talented and skilled.I wonder who worked out all the brass arrangements. This band had it all.Jazzy, punkriffs, rockabilly, americanParty any genre u name they had it for a minute.Country and Mextex is in thee.this sounds a little ska and reggae.AMAZING band.and gorgeous ELFman's torso back n day WOW!!
Steve Bartek (guitarist in this video) did almost all the arranging for OB - and still does all Danny's arranging for the movie soundtracks Danny writes.
i saw them when they came to denver in the 80s i was up front, they put on a great show they even stayed after and chatted with everyone who hung around
My GF at the time was a serious Boingo groupie (Hi Margaret!). First time I saw Boingo was in the valley in '78, where they billed themselves as the "Clowns of Death"... ah, the memories!
Danny was/is capable of being a bit edgy - at the farewell concert he had them re-do 'We Close our Eyes' because he thought the tempo of the fitst take was too slow. He seemed legit pissed at the accordian player.
Hey was anyone at Hollywood Palladium show when the audience was throwing their shoes and one of em hit Danny....omg he was pissed.....those were the days..
Cool post. I used to have the cassette version of the four song ep but it was badly damaged. On the forbidden boingo bootleg doesn't have an mp3 rip of the cassette version; all I have been able to find are 12'' inch versions which are the same but have pops and other lp record abnormalities. I wish they would just release an official remaster but if anyone could rip the cassette version and seed it on bit torrent it would be doing all Boingo fans a big favor... Thanks for reading.
man oingo boingo is the absolute best, I can't believe they're so unknown, even if they are broken up. danny elfman has had such an influence on the musical world and he deserves much more recognition than a five second parody of him on family guy.
OMG!! Thanks so much for posting this. I too saw them about 17 times back in the day. I forgot how much I loved this song. Now living in Chicago I long for the days I spent in California at Oingo Boingo shows. My grown kids think I am nuts but that cool. My son actually was at their farewell concert at Irvine Meadows. So, I kinda passed the torch to him. Thanks again for bringing back such great memories!!
MissLoriAnn and cgonzgo, count me in as well. I saw them around 13 times, several of which were at The Palace in Hollywood. No doubt we were at some of the same shows..... Oh the memories... I LOVE this song!!!!
This song is so kickass! I loved it back in the day and I was a big Oingo Boingo fan. Through the years I actually forgot about this song. I'm glad to have rediscovered it. Thanks for posting it!!!
If a guy ever sings this to me, I may just marry him!

Another Gem I've never heard of from the great Oingo Boingo. Danny Elfman is the man. He's responsible for basically all music in the 21st centrury.
