It is not about how fast you play or how different you play. If it doesn't sound good to fans, it sucks. Metallica is up there due to kirk's incredible solos and riffs. It took metallica to the top of the world.

alternate picking, but dont expect to do this after 2 months, you should practis it with a metronome and very slowly with minimal movement, only when the minimal movement becomes natural you can speed up

@jimthemfmailman I think all thrash guitarists that haven't played any blues have this problem....but then again i think Kirk Hammett was playing some Steve Ray in his early days and his vibrato is still one of the worst i heard.Anyway i love Exodus songs but i am not too sure about this funny vibrato :) slow it down.

do a pulloff from the first to the second note. it´s a lot easier to play and it simply doesn´t matter at that speed. you can still change the articulation later if you want to.

@BaptizedinFire In the 80's when they weren't filthy rich, and Kirk pretty much devoured music, he was an amazing lead guitarist. Listen to the solo's he's written. Disposable Heroes, Fade, Master of Puppets, Sanitarium, eye of the beholder, Creeping death, Thing that should not be, and many more. He wrote some really epic solos. But now, Kirk just doesn't practice like he should. And it shows. His ability to write solos has gone down so much. But there was a time.
