Do you fly on the KC-10? The Dutch airforce has 2 KC-10's and I live close to a military airbase (Eindhoven AFB) and I see those babies almost everyday! And because I live close to the German border C-5 Galaxys and C-17's departing from Ramstein AFB fly over my house regularly! The C-5 and the KC-10 engines make a really distinctive sound when they fly over my house. Really cool!
@Spev142 Not much! I know it has anti-radiation missiles on occasion, but usually nothing. Its electrical jamming could probably set fire to your clothes however.
@Mainsail76 What you see in this video is known as probe and drouge refueling. Its easier, and more boring, for me the boom operator but harder for the receiving pilot. The boom is easier, faster, and safer for everyone involved.
@cmhagstrom Hey, thanks for answering! I'm sorry, I meant to say boom as opposed to probe (slaps forehead) . These videos are great. Keep up the great work. Thanks!

@336kgf depends how long the legs are. They have to make their diverts at any given time, so they are the limiting factor.

Makes me wonder how many times a Prowler would need to take on fuel on this particular trip.

I bet the guys in the back seats sleep during the entire flight.

What kinda weapons does it have?

@Spev142 absolutely nothing. It can carry HARM missiles, but not usually.

This might sound like a dumb question, but what is "easiest," refueling planes with the probe or with the drogue?

@cmhagstrom I always though the boom was actually harder! Thanks for pointing that out!

I love the Prowler and the Intruder... old. but still great planes.
Sturmfalke010475 2 years ago
the prowler and the mirage III - both have fixed refuelarms - is this an advantage?
