"Bach sei Dank" for his wonderful compositions - and thanks to morleyharps for sharing this wonderful sound experiene with the world. I am a great Bach admirer, and since I love harp sounds... can't stop listening. :)
My 6 year old wanted to know what a harp sounds like. I came here and found this and am delighte that this is what he will now think of for the harp. Thanks. (And thank you Bach- Gott Sei Dank (?))

ThatsForLeverHarp,NotPedalHarp,WhichIsThe ReasonPedalHarpsAreUsuallyPlayedForClassical MusicWithLotsOfAccidentals.ItsHardToKeep FlippingLeversUpAnd down at a fast pace. Pedal harps are heavier though, which is a pain for transport. Sorry if it's hard to read; I didn't have enough space.
Each pedal correspond to a note (from A to G) and each pedal can have three position. So each note can be flat, natural or sharp. The A pedal works on all the A(s) of the harp, the B pedal works on all B(s) and so on.
I play violin, and have for many years, and I tell ya, anyone that can play an instrament like this is soooo talented. This is a beautifull arange ment and very nicely played.
Haha, they range from about 7,000 USD for a cheap, Asian made all the way to 50,000+ for those that are gilt and such. That's why I play a lever harp, it only cost 400... haha.
The pedals allow the harpist to play in various keys by sharping or flatting(Raising or lowering of pitch by tightening or loosening) of strings. The pedals on a piano affect the length of time the note sounds.
The pedals raise or lower the pitch of the strings by a semitone, like the black keys on a piano, except there's one pedal for each note and you can depress or raise the pedal to change the pitch of every note with the same letter name -ie the c-pedal affects all the c-strings and so on. Hope this helped :)
You know what this means, is she has to practice while wearing those heels. I mean she can't practice wearing just socks or sneakers, because the balance would be completely different when she used the pedals. Think about it. She's at home in her pajamas practicing at 9am but she has to wear her high heels to do it.
And I find it amusing that you're an idiot for making your remark not knowing that "fuge" is German for "fugue" and therefore likely the spelling Bach would titled with himself.
It's as if there were more than one instrument were being played at the same time! Very musical indeed; i enjoyed this perfomance thoroughly : )
Oh, and i hear that the harp is the most difficult instrument to keep tuned. If thats the case, then your are a wonderful musician and an expert mechanic as well! Congrats : P
The pedals change the tonality. (top noch is to flatten a note, middle is to nutralise it and bottom is to sharpan the note). They are the equivalent of the black notes on a piano.
as a harp player myself i can say playing something that fast that good, with all the petal changes, ANd without music is HARD, but her left elbow could be a bit higher
Wow...watching the feet action necessary to play the pedal harp, I guess I'm glad I play the simpler folk harp with levers.... But I must admit, it would be nice to be able to change keys. Great playing though... she must have practiced ALOT
do you want to know how and where you can leanr play the harp?:) its easy.you should go to music school.i started play harp when i was 15 and i think its very easy:)
It's surprisingly common, but rare compared with, say, french horn. Google The Harp Mall, they have an online list of teachers.
I find harp easy, but I'm a freak with 8 years of guitar under my belt. It's harder than piano, because if you wanna play loud, you gotta have strength in the right direction and lots of it.
as a harpist myself, she is very good, but her left thumb is a little to low, and I agree with beanlud- she does play some parts a little too fast... but other then that, very nice
I was taught that when one's left hand is as high as hers, it is proper to drop one's elbow a little... this helps releave tension. it follows that when one's elbow is dropped that one's thumb will also drop a little. and in any case, i don't think that people have the right to critique another musician because a performance is a gift from one person to another.

candieneh24,
I belive that is how you get a sharp or flat to a certain not... there isn't a B flat string... just a B string... so you need to pedal make a B flat
someone please correct me if I am wrong I play bass and have no idea what I am doing

They sharpen or flatten the strings. The harp is normally tuned to C-flat major, so all the notes are flat.

I find it kinda funny how they spelled "Fuge" wrong. FUGUE!!!

And I find it amusing that you're an idiot for making your remark not knowing that "fuge" is German for "fugue" and therefore likely the spelling Bach would titled with himself.
dolofonos 4 years ago 2
Actually, "Fuge" is the German spelling, which would be most apt, since Bach was German.
