Even tho the effects were, let's admit, awful, and the acting pretty bad, I cant help but like this version. Im not sure why, I think its the eastern european feel it has to it. Russian tales are somewhat known to be sad or tragic and even tho The Little Mermaid wasnt necessarily Russian, it still has that feel to it here. The music, the looks on the mermaid's face, the way she talks, its all sweet and innocent and sad.

Another thing, can the Little Mermaid talk in this version? Cause she just spoke to the Queen/Princess at the end of this clip and does the Prince know that she was the one that saved him?

in this version, didn't the princess sort of DECEIVED the prince by telling him she saved him? i mean, she claims she saved him when in fact it's the mermaid who did... i don't like the princess.

The Mermaid left the prince on the beach but stayed hidden to make sure he was found by someone. The Princess and the Prince both THINK that the Princess saved him...but we know the truth.

Ever since the lore of mermaids began, mermaids were pretty much always depicted as topless. So I think it is pretty hard to conclude that THIS mermaid OR Ariel could be a "bimbo" for wearing nothing or just a (shell) bikini. I love both this film and disney's, but (other than the fact that they both have dumb-o pinces,) they are so diffrent than eachother that it is very hard to compare them :)

I think its becausse Rusalochka loves the Princess too. And perhaps she knoes that if she says it, the Prince will leave the Princess, and the Princess will be miserable. So the Rusalochka thinks its better NOT to tell.

It was so disturbing... The Russian 70s fairy tales movies still scare the crap out of me! They improved by the 80s, but US slasher films of the era are more kid friendly than this!

I liked this version of the story better myself (stuck with Anderson's original more than the Disney version.) Still, I think it looked cheap. Doesn't mean I don't like it.

Also, I don't agree that Ariel looked like a "bimbo" but she did have really gross 80's hair XD Her bangs had like...a pocket in them XD I also didn't like her character very much. Still, I do like that movie too.
