I love the song! Awesome lyrics, they're basically talking 2 lovers lovers killing themselves to get some sort of happiness. The song is NOT about suicide...Buck Dharma says the song is about eternal love, not suicide: .... I was actually kind of appalled when I first realized that some people were seeing it as an advertisement for suicide or something that was not my intention at all. It is, like, not to be afraid of it (as opposed to actively bring it about). It's basically a love song where the love transcends the actual physical existence of the partners. He wrote the song so he should KNOW!

I love this song, with or without the solo. Really makes a great flow for the song; the solo is good, mind you, but unless if you're the kind of person who jacks off to the guitar solo (exaggerating, but you get the idea) it really doesn't make much difference. As for the song... I guess there's two ways to look at it. If you view the singer as 'the reaper', then the song would be about suicide, but then if the singer is actually 'alive', it's about doing what you love despite a chance of death

I have never gotten the alleged suicide reference. Isn't it about a guy and girl eloping, and being urged not to fear the "reaper" set to kill their doomed relationship? He shows up in her bedroom at night through a French door and takes her away with him. I see this as an, "if you're in love, go for it" song.
