  • as a Classic Disney fan, I disagree on Hocus Pocus, and in defense of Mario, I do disagree on Super Mario Bros..

  • I actually liked the Super Mario Bros. movie. It was funny.

  • @WilsonsWardrobe Super mario bros. is embarassment to the human species.

  • Hocus Pocus sucked...

  • i love coneheads

  • Super Mario Bros. is a 'way' worse effects movie than Hocus Pocus.

  • Thumbs up for VHS recordings!!!

  • What??! Hocus Pocus is a great movie, if they think that was a "special effects movie" they would hate most of the overloaded cgi-fests of the 2000s

  • they consider these bad? wonder what they think about the sh#@ coming out today ;)

  • these boneheads...are idiots...glad one has got cancer..& the other is dead...think about it...quit hating on things that were nice.....KaRmA is a Bitch~

  • I liked Coneheads when I saw it in the theaters and I still like it 18 years later.

  • Super Mario Bros.: I refuse to write a review for this except for this. It's the worst video game adaptation I have ever seen. *

  • The Beverly Hillbillies: The worst TV adaptation to date. Thank goodness we weren't suckers and waste our money on this lifeless, tired, unfunny movie. The only good performance was from Jim Varney otherwise everyone else should be ashamed to be part of this disaster. *

Coneheads: Based on the Saturday Night Live skit, but Coneheads is at best a mixed bag. I applaud Aykroyd and Curtain sticking to their guns. The daughter's performance is dead on arrival. There is no plot and missing satire. **

  • Frankly, Siskel's ideas on how to improve The Beverly Hilbillies sounded just as lame as the ones they actually used.

  • Loved the hell out of Coneheads as a kid.

  • Wasn't crazy about Beverly Hillbillies. Only thing I liked about it was Jim Varney as Jed.

Super Mario Bros is the perfect example of a guilty pleasure. Liked Bob and John as the brothers and Dennis Hopper was a awesome villain.

  • @orbison I basically agree. One of my favorite movies!

  • Hocus Pocus was a great film! They must have been in a bad mood when they watched that one :-(

  • Hocus Pocus?! Seriously?! I only saw it for the first time a few months ago and I think it's a great film!

  • I can't believe Gene is sincerely complaining about SMB's lack or resemblance to the games! Was he really a fan of them? For some reason, the image of Gene Siskel playing video games is hilarious.

  • HOCUS POCUS!? how can this be on the worst list, this is a Halloween classic and one of my favorite movies. I love these guys but, they lost a few points in my book for that one

  • Wow! Hocus Pocus! Still better than Sex and the City movie.

  • @fungusMossgnosis... I agree with every movie on that list except Falling Down.

  • IMO,if Bete Midler is in a movie,it will probably suck ass.She is incredinly annoying---she oversings, she over acts---WHY this woman is considered talented is beyond me.

  • i love the old videotape

  • Coneheads is so unbelievably bad...

  • @NOcomunismo92 Agree---Wow,Dan Ackroyd has made a lot of bad movies since the 80's hasnt he?

  • Yeah and and cameos from past and present cast members of SNL didn't help: Garrett Morris, Chris Farley, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Julia Sweeney, Jan Hooks, Michael McKean, Kevin Nealon, Laraine Newman, also apperances from Jason Alexander, Michael Richards, Ellen DeGeneres and Drew Carey, Sinbad, Eddie Griffin.

  • That's what I remember most about Coneheads.

  • I also disagree with them on Coneheads and even Beverly Hillbillies, not a great comedy but I really enjoyed it.

  • Beverly Hillbillies was AWFUL..................guess I should've known that, considering it was based on an awful TV show (sorry, B.H. fans!).

  • @lurch321 Super Mario Bros. made Beverly Hillbillies look like Shakespeare.

  • @Leftysfive93

'Street Fighter: The Movie' was better than 'Super Mario Bros.: The Movie', in my opinion.

  • @tthomaselli2 It's like comparing spoiled fruit to rancid meat, they're both unwatchable.

  • @tthomaselli2 OF COURSE!

  • @tthomaselli2 I agree, I think all other video game movies are better then "Super Mario Bros."

  • @lurch321 I had to sit through this bullshit, alot of bad movies based on TV shows sucked like The Brady Bunch, The Addam's Family, etc.

  • @adamdicy C'mon, as awful as The Brady Bunch TV show was, The Brady Bunch movie was friggin' HILARIOUS! Can't comment on The Addam's Family movie since I've never seen it..................but from what I've generally heard, it's supposed to be pretty good (especially Christina Ricci's performance).

  • There are only a few SNL films that are good. It is hard to take a ten minute sketch and stretch it into 90 minutes. Mainly because many of these characters are designed for ten minutes.

  • @acehighpat Wayne's World, The Blues Brothers, Stuart saves his Family, (Superstar, The Ladies Man: Didn't live up to the expectations I had hoped for)

  • @acehighpat Wayne's World, The Blues Brothers, Stuart saves his Family were funny and great movies, (Superstar, The Ladies Man: Didn't live up to the expectations I had hoped for)

  • @adamdicy Yes they were and I agree with on Superstar. It was a shame since Mary Katherine Gallagher was one of my favorite characters.

  • The real worst of 1993: - Boxing Helena - Chain of Desire - Hear No Evil - Age of Innocence - Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit - Cool Runnings - Surf Ninjas - Sidekicks - Amos and Andrew - Falling Down - Into the West - Needful Things - Heaven and Earth - Bodies, Rest and Motion

  • @FungusMossGnosis The sad thing is, those films are not as bad as current bad movies, the bar is set lower ever year.

    I blame Michael Bay.

  • @FungusMossGnosis Age of Innocence? Falling Down? Nah....

  • I must be the only kid who hated hocus pocus.

  • I like hocus pocus!

  • Gradepoint, i actually like the bad quality of the video, it makes think i am actually watching a 1990's video tape.

  • Why isn't Jason Goes to Hell here?

  • @Freebleeper It wasn't screened for many critics so they never reviewed it. Lucky them.

  • I'm embarrassed to say this, but my earliest memories of seeing a film in theaters is Hocus Pocus. I think I was like 4. I don't remember it being particularly good or bad.

  • hocus pocus should recieve a award for its make-up at least.Sarah for once doesnt look like a horse

  • Three of my cousins were Coneheads for Halloween that year... :D

  • What's so hard to follow about Hocus Pocus?

  • I Liked Super Maro Brothers

  • I liked "Coneheads". I thought it hilarious, and I will even go as far to say that I really miss Chris Farley too.

  • This was Ebert's thinnest year.

  • @stableshadow . that is a very odd thing to focus on.

  • @SparksDrinker ah, it's a joke, schmuck.

  • @stableshadow . and it was hilarious, you ever try stand up?

  • @SparksDrinker No, but if I do, I'll definitely take lessons from you, moron.

  • @stableshadow . i think you are embarrassed by your attempt at humor with your original comment.

  • @SparksDrinker Nope. If I were, I would remove the comment. I think you're just a smug asshole and I hate ppl like that. I consider them peasants of the lowest common denominator, and frankly, I think they should be taken out of the gene-pool. Flushed down the toilet with the rest of the shit. Think I'm funny now?

  • @stableshadow . well, i never thought you were funny, that was the whole point. i think you are a very angry person, you should lighten up. what is a dicksuck anyway?

  • @SparksDrinker Look in the mirror. That's a dicksuck.

  • @stableshadow . wow you are so boring. you should seriously stop attempting to be funny.

  • @SparksDrinker I'm not. You asked a question. I gave you the answer. You think the answer is stupid--don't ask an even stupider question. Ass Clown.

  • @stableshadow . you amuse me. you finish each comment by calling me a name. so far you have called me schmuck, moron, dicksuck, smug asshole, critical cunt, and ass clown. in my experience people who aren't confident in what they say feel it neccessary to add insults to strengthen their position. in reality you come across as weak and desperate. you're better than that. good luck.

  • @SparksDrinker No, I just enjoy calling it like I see it -- shit-muncher!

  • @SparksDrinker Funny that you think it's an odd thing to focus on. Whenever SNL or other type shows parodied these guys they always made sure to remark on Siskel's baldness and Ebert's girth... But you're so superciliously smart, we should just defer to your ignorance. Dicksuck.

  • @stableshadow . man i really pissed you off. that was really too easy.

  • @SparksDrinker Actually, you didn't. I felt no anger. In fact, I rather enjoy the opportunity carpet-bombing a critical cunt like you. A

  • Coneheads is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine...I liked all the cameos and Chris Farley was great...I actually caught it on comedy central a couple of months ago and I have to say I still enjoyed it

  • Super Mario Bros?

Who's the fucking genius who decided to make a film out of that?

  • I actually thought Coneheads was funny. Hocus Pocus wasn't too bad either. Super Mario Bros. may be my pick for worst all-time!

  • I liked Coneheads! Although S&E dragged out some real dogs.

  • lol....madonna.....some film career

  • I usually agree with S&K but I actually liked 'Coneheads.'

  • coneheads had its moments like Chris Farley saying "Thanks Mr. Conehead" always made me laugh for some reason.

  • Aw, I liked Coneheads and Hocus Pocus! Sure, they're very dumb, silly movies, but at least they were the enjoyable kind of dumb, silly movie.

  • when I look back at some of these films, these are some of the worst movies ever made. Super Mario Bros. sucked so bad, The Beverly Hillbillies was crap, Dangerous Game was dumb. In fact, all of Siskel and Eberts choices for worst of 1993 are spot on.

  • Hocus Pocus is awesome.

  • wow, I actually liked a lot of these movies, guess being a kid helps out

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • Coneheads. Ugh.

  • They need to bring Siskel back from the dead and cure Ebert's cancer so that they can review even more shlock!

  • Simple math: Any movie + Bette Midler = Piece of shit.

  • Hocus Pocus is literally awesome and I inexplicably enjoy Super Mario Bros.

If Ebert found Hocus Pocus too chaotic with too much going on I wonder if he likes Michael Bay movies...come on Hocus Pocus is easy to follow, it was my favourit emovie when I was younger, great fun, you know, when kid's stuff didn't suck

  • @GameSheriff wow, i feel kind of sad, ebert has cancer and has no jaw, ropert left, and siskel is dead.

  • I agree with you, Gradepoint, I liked CONEHEADS, too. Ebert seems to have totally missed the plot about being an immigrant and what it means, which I thought gave the movie some heart.

  • You know, in this generation where you can see every pixle on TV, I miss this imperfect picture in my TV and/or recorded tape. Save the great picture for the big screen.

I miss Siskle's snarkiness, and Ebert's witt. Truly, next to Travolta and Jackson in Pulp Fiction, they are the best partners of the 90's.

  • Coneheads sucked. The only good SNL movie ever was Wayne's World, which was due to how hilarious Mike Myers is.

  • @KilldozerRocks Come on, night at roxbury was awesome

  • @KilldozerRocks Blues Brothers was good, if a little long and overblown.

  • HOCUS POCUS was great! i still watch it every halloween and have since i was 7

  • Tough to get through this with the tracking problems. Makes me laugh, because it didn't stop me from watching it all. Enjoy all your postings.

  • The guys are spot on, Coneheads was a big pile of dog egg.

  • Come on man. The whole fun of bad movies is going to the theater to watch them. It's a riot.

  • Noooo Hocus Pocus is so good! A favorite from my childhood. Love Siskel and Ebert though. Thanks for posting this!

  • I agree.

  • There are movies that are not particularly entertaining. Then there are movies that just make you angry. You feel betrayed and swindled on a personal level. Valentines Day is THE prime example. People who plugged this as "the perfect date movie" have absolutely no sense of common decency or moral scruples. Shameful and sickening.

  • Clearly Hollywood doesn't give 2 shits about making quality. They have to suck every dime out of every possible subject. There was an American Idol movie a few years ago, Dukes of Hazzard, TV and old film remakes. It seems they will take any concept no matter how boring and shitty just to put people to work and see if they can suck money out of gullible slobs.

  • "dim-witted adolescents", a more apt term used by Roger in pt 2.

  • @stimpp And can you believe that idiot Rodrequez is remaking BARBARELLA? What a fucking tool.

  • it may not be the best quality, but it is good to see Siskel and Ebert rip apart movies that were released the year I was born

  • I don't care what they say, I like 'Hocus Pocus'. When Bette sings "I Put A Spell On You" that's the best part :)

  • @AntinousIsGod1 I totally agree and it's my favorite part too. I took my mom to see Hocus Pocus way back in 1993 and she always loved when Bette Midler sings when the scene came on she sat up and listened.

  • beverly hillbillys gets 2 extra points for having a camaro, so that puts it at 2

  • Coneheads: *amazing* cast, horrible story.

I mean geez you even have cameos and bit parts from Farley, Spade, and Alexander... I guess they all thought it would be another Wayne's World...

  • Actually, Mario Bros. has indeed come to be a cult film. I have as much Kurosawa and Bunuel on my shelf as the next serious film lover, but Mario Bros. created an other dimensional reality and underworld atmosphere that sticks in my head to this day. The fact that it was based on video game characters seemed incidental, as it has almost not likeness to the game. I think it is a fine example of how to adapt something from one medium to another. Great film.

  • SCARY ain't it?

I can't believe it was 1993 when SMB came out... it feels like it shoulda been more like the late 1980s, cuz it sure has that crappy 80s feel...

  • Videogames should never be made into movies ever!

  • True....but, there are a few that are moderately good

    ex. Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil

  • I'll admit I kind of liked the Silent Hill movie, it sucked, but it was still fun to watch with my friends.

  • no worries about the quality. this shit is badass. cheers.

  • Coneheads would be one of my worst movies of all time, to be honest.

  • I liked Coneheads. Y? Seach me, I liked the scenes on their homeworld. Dan was very fat here.

  • I gotta say I like Hocus Pocus. Still do, and I'm 26. Maybe it's just one of those films that might not be great, but is still pretty good fun.

  • totally disagree on hocus pocus thats 1 of my favorites i dont see how that movie could possibly make this list

  • Hocus Pocus is a movie i loved as a child. I think that's the point really, what would these old farts find mildly entertaining about a movie like this?

  • yea i guess thats true lol

  • yeah, thats why they gave thumbs up to Dumb & Dumber, Kingpin, Airplane, Naked Gun, There's Something About Mary, Planes Trains & Automobiles, and Fargo.............yes, no sense of humor.

  • jesus...did they really give Dumb and Dumber thumbs up? Haha.

  • @bluewebheadwb also a thumbs up for scary movie

  • Comment removed

  • @bluewebheadwb Well, not Dumb & Dumber but they did love the 2 Wayne's Worlds and Beavis and Butt-head Do America. (sorry it took me a year to respond)

  • is it just me but do siskel and ebert hate dan akroyd movies think about it dan has been on almost on their worst movie lists

  • Am I the only one who has fond childhood memories of Hocus Pocus?! Lol

  • No. I loved it as a kid, and I think that is who their target audience.

  • @marshallguy301 alot of college kids in Pennsylvana seem to share your fondness for it, actually. But not me: I'm from NC.

  • @marshallguy301 After reading these comments, apparently not.

  • @marshallguy301 Did have a very hot Sarah Jessica Parker :D

  • @vanhalen2005 She is never hot, her face looks like a horse's.

  • @marshallguy301 I love Hocus Pocus. I still watch it around Halloween nearly every year.

  • @marshallguy301 It's love or hate. Either you like it or, you hate it.

  • @marshallguy301 yeah man i grew up watching hocus pocus!

  • @marshallguy301 yes sadly you are LOL

  • Coneheads was a failure, because old Saturday Night Live was not actually funny. TV just sucked at the time, and by contrast, it seemed funny. Same thing with Dan Aykroyd. He was just in the right place at the right time, and so now he's an egotistical tool he thinks he really is as funny as everyone remembers him. While I'm at it, I should throw Chevy Chase into that category. Both seem to think every piece of shit line that they crap out their mouths is anointed comedic gold.

  • What do YOU find funny, if not classic "SNL?"

  • Some of it was funny. Let me correct that. Bill Murray doing the family that talks too loud, and some other stuff. I find the Will Ferrel years funnier. I find Mystery Science Theater 3000 funnier than both of them, by far.

  • I loved hocus pocus :(

  • I never thought Hocus-Pocus was that bad of a film. But I do agree that The Super Mario Brothers Movie was horrible.

  • I saw the Mario Brothers in the theater when it came out. Aweful. My friend, Rick, asked me to go.

  • Liking something =/= shows the merits of the movie

You can like something, but that doesn't mean it is good.

  • Hocus Pocus is a TERRIBLE movie. Anyone who thinks it is good has terrible taste

  • I remember liking hocus pocus when I saw it but maybe my pubescent self just wanted to fuck Sarah Jessica Parker

  • Hocus Pocus was atrocious, but not unbearable and rather harmless.

  • Thats right. Its campy, dumb, and ridiculous but its not one of the worst films of the year.

  • I loved it too

  • The Coneheads was great!!!!!!!

  • the super mario bros. movie sucks

  • The only thing good about Super Mario Bros is the cheerful music

  • what! i liked coneheads, and the mario bros movie. they were ok.

  • Hocus Pocus has problems with virgins. Maybe people should just lose it right out of the womb :O

  • I have to disagree with them on Super Mario Bros. I actually didn't mind that one.

  • Hocus Pocus was great!

  • Hocus Pocus was not as bad as some of the films put on their lists

  • suiper mario bros. is a motherfuckin american classic citizen kane dont got have shit on it lol

  • i really liked coneheads, at least it tried something different.

  • Me too. I liked "Coneheads" and "The Beverly Hillbillies" very much. I have no idea what their problem was with them. I laughed a lot watching both.

  • Hear hear. I saw Coneheads on one of the HBO networks about a year ago and I didn't think it was that bad.

  • I don't have any problem with Hocus Pocus, I think it's a fun film for older kids, maybe 7 or 8, I used to really enjoy that one a lot at that age.

  • What surprises me the most about that one is that the same director went on to do the "High School Musical" movies.

  • Really? I can't stand those films. But I guess if you need money and the only thing you know how to do is direct films, you don't really have much choice.

  • Comment removed

  • Dangerous Game was AMAZING!! Underrated masterpiece.

  • Read up on the production of Super Mario Bros.

It's a sad, weird story; apparently Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo where drunk on set a lot, the directors thought they where making the next Citizen Cane, and everything was just a complete disaster.

  • I loved Coneheads. I think it's hilarious.
