This song brings memories flooding back. In 1983, I was 25 & had gone to a social gathering. The front door of the home opened & in walked a tall, good-looking, older guy carrying a guitar case. Our eyes met as he walked into the room. We were together from that moment on. We spoke of marriage. We're now married to others. But, he sang this beautiful song for me often. Everytime I hear it, I remember. Thank you, Steve. I hope you know that you are "the one that got away." ~annie
@nycnin Thanks! I should've added that In 2004, I had an impromptu chance to see "the one that got away." He looked so much older than I remembered, but still was the same sweet guy that swept me off my feet 29 yrs. ago. What do you do with that kind of a moment? As old friends would, we chose to have a heart-to-heart, giving me a chance to say certain things that I needed to say. We spoke parting words of, "We won't say goodbye; but instead, see you later," & "Be happy."
Soft rock/easy listening mid to late seventies music. Beautiful Melody, nice, simple, and clear. They don't make 'em like they used to. Amazing Group/Amazing song!!
i have never heard of Firewall, despite being a music fan - i am a real sucker for a beautiful melody and a sentimental lyric , this appeals to me at a number of levels - very nice.
i'm guessing firewall was/is a californian/west coast outfit.
Memories of my senior year in high school, my then boyfriend and I said we would get married when we got a bit "older". We were together (on and off) for a little more than 5 years. He used to dedicate this song to me. I wonder where he is now.
It was 1989 and I was a drummer with a band and we were invited to a party. When I saw the girl who was hosting the party, OMG, There she was, The woman that I've always dreamed of. Cute, Funny and tough as all hell. Shortly after we starting dating. Fast forward to 2012 and we will be married almost 20 years. She is a great wife, Mother and dear friend to me. Just wanted to share that with all other viewers. Happy New Year!

Rick Roberts performed Ten of his Original Songs from the "Firefall" Band that he founded during Our Wedding Ceremony October 29, 2011 in St. Augustine, Fl. at "Castle Otttis". My Husband was in the Band in the 80s with Chuck Kirkpatrick who also performed in Rick's Band. "Just Remember I Love You" was Sang by Rick during Our Unity Candle Ceremony...OMG! Rick is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is releasing New Music on I-Tunes as a Solo Artist soon :)
I saw them in 1976 with Fleetwood Mac and Peter Framton in Austin, Texas at an event called Sunday Break. 10 bands that day and Firefall opened at 10 am with England Dan and John Ford Coley following them. Great concert. I had a blast! I was 21 years old and thought I knew everything. We all survived, but I don't know how.
I'm surprised the producers didn't insist on the band using a studio drummer. Clark's drumming live was acceptable, but he was marginal in the studio. The kick drum goes out of time at 0:30, something that would never happen with a studio pro.
I'm not really a fan of this sort of music typically, but I was a kid in the '70s and I loved this song then, and I love it now. It's just perfect, and it sets a mood in a way few other songs do. There is no song that takes me back to being 12 years old and carefree like this one does. Perfect.

@TheBchsbandgeek That kinda reminds me of this old episode of "Married With Children" whem Al was trying to find a song that was stuck in his head. But yes this is a great song.
@ChessieSeaboardX chessie, i was just looking at the songs i have bookmarked...& i am surprised by how very many of them are from 1976 specifically!! so yeah, you are so VERY right!! :)
i'm only 16, but i just want to say that i find this song absolutely amazing. honestly, i like the older music better than what passes for music nowadays. dont get me wrong, there are some good songs now, but the 70s, 80s, and 90s had some of the best music ive ever heard, and i wish i had been alive in the the 70s and 80s and could remember most of the 90s so i could hear all of these songs back then and have the proper amount of time to savor how great they are before todays music
@amat1504 Im 15 and feel the same way, but then i remember what point would this song be to me if the girl this best describes won't exist for another 26 years D:
Crap....I was only 2 years old when this came out,but most of the music I love the most was from the 50's 60's and 70's....you were all blessed with the greatest music hands down! Find any newly made music capable of moving you down deep.....good luck with that!
@MrAndyg36 You and I are definitely on the same page. I agree with you hands down, 100%. I was 3 when this song came out and remember it vividly. I also like music from the 50s, 60s and 70s the best. I like some 80s too, especially the early to mid 80s. Late 80s had fairly decent music but by the time the 90s started to roll around that all changed. Some 90s was okay. We need good music like this for today's generation / era. It seems good music is hard to come by these days.
Oh dear, 1976, I just graduated high school. How many times I listened to this wonderful song and now all the great memories of a time long gone but never forgotten
Such a beautiful song. Yes, why can't people think and sing like this anymore? Materialism and looks are transitory - love and romance are forever. Nowadays its all about sex, drugs and stupidity. Basically, today's music has devolved to nonsense. bring back songs like this. Bring back the 70s!
@59Skott "love and romance are forever". Yeah, tell that to my ex wife! LOL! But seriously, yes, a lot of today's songs leave a lot to be desired. Then again, we had crap songs back in the day, too. We just managed to forget them!
Made the posters for a cancer research concert they played in Nevada in 2003. Got to play some music with them after the concert. Though my playing was not nearly equal to theirs they were gracious and encouraging as we enjoyed relaxing after the show. A great group and very open and friendly. Have always enjoyed their music.
Firefall hit #9 in Billboard, 12-11-76. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Sure wish Rick Roberts would come back to the band full-time. It doesn't sound the same without him singin' the songs.
I saw them in concert on May 20th, 2011. They were fantastic, they sounded exactly the same live as they do on this studio version of the song. It was an amazing show, I'm so glad I got to see them live.
This song has always seemed to me to typify the essence of the sound of the 70's - a catchy melody, an upbeat tempo, and an easy delivery. True pop music (I say) reached its apex in the 70's - and unfortunately, it's been a long, slow slide down ever since. A marvelous tune, thank you for posting
i went to the states for the first and only time in 79 and was introduced to the sounds of firefall and aerosmith, and i still love the mucic today,i was hoping to find a tune by firefall called "just think" and it had a great guitar instrumental in the mid section wish you guys could hear it ......fucking awesome
My name is Rick Roberts, and I wrote and sang this song. I just wanted to say thanks for all these wonderful comments. I had never thought to check for responses. Comments like these make writing worth while!
@22toreador Thanks for writing the tune. I heard it while working in a restaurant. For years they played it on the piped in music system. I have fond memories of it playing in the background during my youth.
@22toreador HEY, RICK. CAN YOU POST "DOLPHINS LULLABY" & "PIECE OF PAPER"????IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!....HONEY, FIREFALL HAS SOME DIEHARD FANS---NOW & ALWAYS!!!!! SAW FIREFALL IN TULSA, SEEMS LIKE A CENTURY AGO! OH, MAN. WE ARE GETTING OLD, AREN'T WE????
@missbjg I love Firefall, grew up in the late 60s and 70s... Love that group... listen to them on CD in my car. In 1976 I had a New 1976 Pontiac Grand Le Mans with a 8 Track! anybody remember those. Had Firefall on 8 track riding around with the windowns down and Firefall blasting! Those were the good days, I miss those times. Thanks for sharing.
@jebemteufacu I feel sorry that you did experience the wonderful 70's. We had Big Wheels, you have Xbox, We roller skated, You play Xbox, We built forts to play in, You have Xbox, We rode our bikes with friends all day-unsupervised-You have Xbox, We had Star Wars, You have Twilight + Xbox.
my boyfriend sings me this song all the time, and i can guarantee you he (and many men still like him) think this way.... it warms my heart and gives me butterflies every time he looks me in the eyes when he sings this....
@SniperZaku that's where the tragedy lies, not that you weren't worthy, but that you lost the opportunity because YOU believed you weren't worthy. Seriously, LOOK at some of the guys dream girls wind up with.Sometimes it's because all the guys they wanted were too intimidated to make a move.
1976?...I was only 16 at this time and wished to have someone feel this way about me then, what secret memories of a 16 yr old!!!....Man, "he" finally came along three years later and we've been married for 31 years now!.......... Whoopie!!!
@nativeheartiAM Yeah I'm 18 now but 3 of the girls I've been with would probably laugh at me if I expressed my feelings this way...This generation sucks, skanky spoiled brats and bitchy girls, my ex used to fix her hair for over half an hour and that's just the hair. Congrats on that btw 31 years wow that's a long time.
@kaziabir1 Got a song for ya!..."Love Will Find A Way" by Pablo Cruise. Another 70's hit. My first crush ditched me as he was living in lifes fast lane. I met my guy in front of a bowling alley. There's a beating heart out there waiting for you to come along. Maybe somewhere you've never dreamed it would be!
@nativeheartiAM I was 23 when this song came out & i used to play it in bands I was in. Congratulations!!!!!!!! I'm 58 now and I'm insanely jealous of you, and insanely happy for you at the same time! YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
@gwscarborough TY! I thought during this time period that it was a most difficult time. But it was all about "me" and how I felt. I never wondered how the rest of the world was doing "outside the box!" you know? I know realize how times were much much simpler back in the 70's.
@tomwalker389 , we've only been married 29 years. I can try to remember to get back to you around our 30th anniversary and update you, if you'd like! lol
i love this song it came ont he radio like amonth ago andi never knew who sung it i know more songs and artist than my mom i hate the music of today if i hear a new song of today i wouldnt knwo or care who sung it but if u put a classi cone on im sure to know it most people my age are stuck on the music of today .great song.this is real music .
@guineapiglover123 I agree. It's when people wrote songs about the intimate things in life. Now it's all about bitches and hos, drugs, the list goes on sadly. And back in the day it was: musicians/composer first, entertainer second, Now it's all entertainer and no talent as musicians. And don't forget the music sampling (stealing others music) because most can't read music let alone write music.
@guineapiglover123 I promise you that people still do....at least some of us. I always tell my wife that my first real memory of her was of this shy girl with absolutely stunning eyes. Knew the first time I saw those eyes that she was the woman I'd been waiting for. Three years later.....here we are waiting for our first kid.
actually...how can any1 dislike this song...good n meaningful lyrics...good melodies...what more do u want...
how sad..

Maybe somewhere you've never dreamed it would be!
nativeheartiAM 7 months ago 2
@nativeheartiAM I was 23 when this song came out & i used to play it in bands I was in. Congratulations!!!!!!!! I'm 58 now and I'm insanely jealous of you, and insanely happy for you at the same time! YOU GO GIRL!!!!!
gwscarborough 6 months ago
@gwscarborough TY! I thought during this time period that it was a most difficult time. But it was all about "me" and how I felt. I never wondered how the rest of the world was doing "outside the box!" you know? I know realize how times were much much simpler back in the 70's.

Why can't people think like this anymore? Now it's all about clothing, looks, body image. It's sad.
Everyone who wishes people still thought (and sang) about women like this, thumbs up.
guineapiglover123 1 year ago 172
@guineapiglover123 agreed!
RangRing68 1 year ago
@guineapiglover123 I agree. It's when people wrote songs about the intimate things in life. Now it's all about bitches and hos, drugs, the list goes on sadly. And back in the day it was: musicians/composer first, entertainer second, Now it's all entertainer and no talent as musicians. And don't forget the music sampling (stealing others music) because most can't read music let alone write music.

"Now it's all about clothing, looks, body image. It's sad."
I AGREE. ...And you can mostly "thank"
the stupid ..MUSIC VIDEO ERA.. that began around "84/'85 for bringing us to the present sad state of affairs we find ourselves in now!!
tiptoetonight 1 year ago
@guineapiglover123 People do sing of women like this. If you don't know that, you're looking in all of the wrong places.

@shelovesrockandroll
I was mostly directing that rant at many popular rap songs.
Good music is still being produced, and I support those up-and-comers.
guineapiglover123 1 year ago
@guineapiglover123 If you support the up-and-comers do them a favor and not feed the pop/rap fame by talking about them. It's the only way.
