I can see why violinist (and accompanists) adore this unusual work so--its color/emotion is so different from the usual sonata canon. jazzy chords, intense wide ranging, heart felt emotions. It affords bravura yet soul satisfying work on every possible level.
Actually, this is Yehudi's sister, the older of the two. She was considerably more talented as a pianist than their younger sister Yalta,,,the one married to Joel Rice. Both Menuhin sisters studied with Rudolph Serkin.
lovely old style playing - breezy, brick and unaffected, except at odd places where it matters; much unlike the mannered stuff too often peddled today...
Much, much too rushed! Although I appreciate how difficult this piece is (especially up the high passages!) it sounds quite nervous! Good use of bow though :)
yo tuve la suerte de regalarle una ilustracion mia , a Sir Yehudi Menuhin cuando en 1994 estuvo en bs as escuchando la camerata Lysy Gstaad, aqui su version es hermosa volveria a grabarla
Hepzibah was a terrific talent and a lovely woman. She brings out lightness and space in this rather turgid score. (although I adore it!) How moving to see and hear them.
Beautiful playing!

For people who want's to know who the wonderful pianist is, she is Menuhin's wife Hephzibah Menuhin. Spectacular playing

Beautiful and very individual performances. And they are both playing for memory. (She is a remarkable pianist.)

Menuhin is the best, what can I say...
Cesar Frank composed this sonata as a wedding gift to Eugene Ysaye, who played it for the first time the day he got married!

In fairness, Hepzibah is the real winner here.

She is PHENOMENAL....................
GeorgeMaxwellDuPre 2 years ago 8
Absolutely. Though, I seem to remember reading somewhere that Yehudi was convinced that their sister, Yaltah, was the most talented of the group.
