The nutrient (material that will become the ruby crystal) consists primarily of extremely pure aluminum oxide (Al2O3); approximately 5-8% of chromium oxide (Cr2O3) must be added to produce the essential red color. If a star ruby is being produced, a small amount (0.1-0.5%) of titanium oxide (TiO2) is also used.

The flame fusion process uses an oxygen-hydrogen torch to melt powdered forms of the two basic components, whereas the Czochralski process uses some form of electrical heating .

thgis may have already been asked and asnswered but why can't you use a flash back arester just like you use on a standard cutting outfit? Mine are just screwed in my torch line.

What do you mean the wool has to be wet? Wet with what? Does it have to be wet before every use?!

you can dampen the wool with water or vinegar. I wet mine before every use, but it's only a recreational torch design, not for serious brazing or welding. I would suggest a more efficient and complicated flame arrestor if you are going to do that.

Nice video. Is there a reason why aluminum or copper wool should not be used instead of brass wool?

Copper has the best thermo conductivity and copper wool can be purchased at briwax-online. comSLASHGMTCopper. html

Aluminum wool also has a higher thermo conductivity than brass wool.

Try glass wool the yellow stuff used for insulation in roof spaces and around hot water tanks, it works better than the metal wools and is easier to find.

Yeah the bronze damn near blew me up. The bronze on it's own is not enough to be an arrestor. Will try the water filter though. That might make more sense.

Hey congrats on the torch. Try filter medium from an everpure water filter. Never had a flash back from it yet, nor does it have to be wet. Plus its consitant all the way through unlike hand packed brass wool.

A good way to check whatever your using for a flashback arrestor is by using a map gas torch and piece of pipe packed with the material.

If the flame doesn't stay on top, its either not dense enough or to pourous to use.

nice torch there:) and yes always use valve, but if you can find fine bronze wool, it works better, and ssc is right a bit of fiberglass closest to the tip helps also, between those two changes flashbacks and near impossible. an added bonus is my flashback/bubbler, it keeps the bronze wet always, and in the unlikely event of flashback it keeps the bubbler from exploding. But the flashback works by absorbing the heat energy with surface area, no energy no flame. nice job.

Try a mig tip on the end. You can get them with various orifice sizes. Your design is now much more practical.

That appears to be D3 inspired. He makes a nice torch. Am playing with one of his myself right now.

I assume you filled the torch body with the bronze wool as well ??? I also use a small wad of fiberglass insulation in the business end of mine.

to run the torch well, you need about 4 LPM productions though 2 LPM will work. At 5 LPM it will cut anything.

That is a .040 Mig tip on the end of it right now. They didn't have any .030 tips at Harbor Freight. The 2 LPM is just with one cell, I'll add another cell here soon to get the rate up. Yes, the torch is filled with medium bronze wool from West Marine. I drenched the ID of the torch just in case. Although it makes a decent arrestor, I make sure that I always shut it off with the ball valve, just hitting the switch can cause it to backflash.

yep, you're getting there ... ball valve cheap ... blowed up bubblers expensive and a mess to clean up ... LOL ...

have fun with your torch ... my wife hid the fine china the crystal but I have tried mine on about everthing else ... its a very impressive device and a fine use of HHO ...

Ultimately, if you can make fire, you can make heat, electricity, and other fossil fuel replacements. This is going to be a huge market and this isn't even the beginning. HHO will be a household term in about 3-5 years, and I don't want to miss out... ;)
