I have one of these but it seems to be a factory 4 string conversion.... it has plugs in the headstock where the other 4 tuners were supposed to be.... check my Hagstrom bass vid and check out the headstock... the body is exactly the same as this one.
My pappa is Andy Kulberg. This kid rocks. I remember my dad as a flute player. I knew he was a bass player but i didnt know the 8 string bass was a new thing when he stated playing. My dad passed away almost ten years ago, and i just learned something new about him. Thank you keep it up. Much love
@runamuk2020 Good to hear from you. Glad it was something new for you. We're just trying to keep the old story alive of the original Hagstrom Guitars from Sweden. As for the young guy, he's now 17 taller than his parents, and still playing and teaching all kinds of music stuff around the south coast of the UK with bass, guitar, drums and almost anything else he can find!.
It a Hagstrom fretless Jazzbass / Scanbass from late 1970's - smooth and gorgeous. Been played around the world before coming into semi-retirement with us!
way to go chris! great job! i had a hagstrom bass back in the 80´s cant remember what model exactly it was, sort of a jazz bass copy. wish i could haved played as good as you at your age!
I bet your 80's bass was Called a Scanbass - we've got a fretless version - really comfortable apart from the chrome cover over the strings just where I want to pluck it! See the hagstrom(dot)org(dot)uk for pictures of it
Yes people play with fingers too - so does Chris depending on what is played. (I know its contentious for some, sorry). I hope it was informative though.
Not suggesting Chris is up there with the following, but ONLY in reference to your comment: what about Christopher Wolstenholme or Laurence Cottle - they are definitely playing bass.... unlike b-dum b-dum b-dum...
Its a Hagstrom Scanbass or Jazzbass from 1978 - this one is fretless. Phenominal piece of quality. Not many around, and largely unknown outside Europe. see hagstrom(dot)org(dot)uk for more info on real Swedish Hagstroms...
It was actually ten minutes after it was delivered to us from a friend in USA. Tune, plug in, play... Great Fun. Thanks for the positive, and thanks for looking. Plenty more Golden Boulder videos here - many with Vintage Hagstrom guitars too.
Just to reinforce the point (Ha Ha) no I won't repeat it again... but I've attached a recent practice recording (made yesterday). Nick the bass player plucks not picks, Chris the ---- and rhythm guitar is where he should be, and there's drums from Ellz. Very rough first cut recording of a new number. E-nuf.
There's something for those less into Prog in the other Video response - Blackberry Blossom / Alive... now there's some... lead (darn it, I said it again).
I have the same guitar as well however it was recently badly damaged in a housefire i had. My insurance company is only willing to pay $450 dollars for it because i cannot find a source saying how much it is really worth. Could you show me where you found out it was worth that much. Thanks alot.
USA value is less than Europe as most of Hagstrom production went to USA. What remained in Sweden or went to UK/Other parts of Europe is more appreciated. USA people offer H-8's for $1000+ but dont always get it. It would be reasonably easy to reach that in Euro or GBP and the only way is up. Replacing one will get more expensive ongoing - due to the new cheap Chinese Hags marketed by AM&S. Insurance pays bottom dollar - could you get another for that amount in good condition? Difficult.
Yes, as the guy above kindly says. Check out some of the other videos or take a look at the websites etc., Thanks for looking, and thanks for your response.
No you don't. I realise that using a pick is no go for many players. This guy is a lead guitarist normally. Like a 12 string guitar you can use pick or fingers. The model was used by loads of people, Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, Mike Rutherford, Danny McCulloch, Andy Kulberg and Phil Lynott to name a few. Not many of these basses around in good condition now. Love 'em or hate 'em, they are fun how ever you play them. Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoyed a real Hagstrom vintage
He plays drums in a band too but he's still primarily a guitarist in his own band. Sorry if this sounds over the top. It isn't meant to - I hope you enjoyed the video.
See goldenboulder(dot)org(dot)uk to see some Lead Guitar
If so, it's all built in here. Played through a clean amp, OK he's a lead guitar player, but it was great fun to play all the same. Thanks for watching
No he's serious, no playing around. I assume you're joking? Of course he's playing it... DOH! Thanks for watching even if you didn't like it all that much :-)
playing a 8 string bass is weird...it's like...playing a 12 string guitar, if you know what I mean, but can you play with the 8 string with your fingers to see?
Yeah sorry... he's not a bass player... much better bass without a pick to my mind too... but then each to thier own eh. Thanks for the considered view though, much appreciated. This is such a good comunity of positive thinking people eh?
Go north from Malmo to Alvdalen 1st to 3rd June 2007 for the Hagström Festival - you'll get to play some there! Just don't kill anything though... especially us...
Cheers, we certainly think so! Amazing sounds for the bass lead player once they get their fingers round it! We're laos amazed at how good it sounds considering how old it is - 1969 single coils!!!
Great playing for such a young lad on what is a pain in the ass bass to play cleanly.! I still have my Hag 8 string. Bought in 1969 at a music store in Liverpool,NY.
I have one of these but it seems to be a factory 4 string conversion.... it has plugs in the headstock where the other 4 tuners were supposed to be.... check my Hagstrom bass vid and check out the headstock... the body is exactly the same as this one.
