  • i like it ^^

  • LOL That was awesome

  • r u going to make more episodes of japanese 101?

  • Ogenki desu? Genki desu ! Hai hai watashi wa

  • tori DES

  • This comment section truly delivers the Japanese class experience... in that anime fans are correcting the teacher with stuff they read in fansubs

  • @Subbers LOL! Great comment!

  • Bwaaa haaa Haaa! "I'm chicken." lol

  • I'm pretty sure "tori" is the word for "bird" in general....but I suppose it can mean chicken as well? lol, anyway, I enjoyed this. xD

  • good lord! none of our japanese teachers ever did that to us. they told us though that after the first couple of days class would resume in japanese only. so this is awkward to me. and honestly. this is saddening. unless this is something like my sisters expierence at her school in japan, this just doesnt happen on a first day in jpn 101. -_-;;;;

  • a lot of subtitles are wrong...

  • @KKph33rKK In this video? No, they are not wrong.

  • @mangauniversity

よろしくお願いします is an ordinary greeting with no definite meaning. the most accurate way to convey it in english is "nice to meet you"

"i'm looking forward to teaching you" is more like "anata o oshieritai desu"

  • @KKph33rKK You're getting bogged down in literal translation, when in fact the best translations are those based on the situation in which the words are being spoken. You yourself acknowledge that よろしくお願いします has no definite meaning. We are in total agreement with you there. Which is why it is entirely natural — and correct, in this situation — to translate the phrase to mean "I look forward to teaching you."

  • hahahaha that was awesome... CHICKEN I'M A CHICKEN.... fffft.

  • Tori is everyone in the first year Japanese class that I cadet teach...

  • I am so glad my school offers Japanese as a language. I'm in my 6th year.

  • so basically all you gotta do is say your name, then desu????

  • @iid0rks Not exactly. See... "Watashi wa o namae wa *your name* desu. Anata wa?" Is extremely polite: It means My name is *name*. What about you? (Anata usually refers to YOU) Desu is an ending of sentence pronounciation; you don't NEED to say it. If you don't want to be so formal, say: "Watashi wa *name* desu~!" Or "*name* desu~" Or "Watashi wa *name*! " Basically, those are the basics of introducing yourself.
  • @PipesJayFDF

watakushi no namae wa *name* to moushimasu is even more formal... i.e for introducing yourself to an elder, during a job interview, etc.

  • @KKph33rKK On this point, you are correct. And it's great that you recognize these subtleties. Our goal here, however, is to introduce students to simple, common spoken Japanese phrases that can be used among family and friends. Hence, "Japanese 101."

  • "Tori-desu!" =^w^= Otaku oroka!

  • they got great site helped me a bit, tho doesn't have everything i need. like i been making my own comic tho i wanna make it look even better. i do side view and my pictures are usually facing the right so i draw left to right and on the site i noticed the examples are showing the right to left. i need more help with like drawing the legs and shoes/feet, cuz i suck at drawing shoes/feet.

  • I understood most of what she said! YAAAAY MEEEE /:D\

  • @ohmyarmelle that would be because of the subtitles >_>

  • @BrokenWingsKai if i say i understood all she said, and I'm so glad about it, OBVIOUSLY it means that I understood what she said WITHOUT READING the subtitles. hope it's clear now.. (;

  • I understand Japanese thanks to watching years of Anime!! I can speak some that I learn from the anime, but if talking to a japanese person I'll failed! Can't read Japanese though, only some because I'm Chinese. Guess being Asian makes it easier for me to learn.

  • wow i understood everything the teacher said. i closed my eyes to see if i could understand her and i could!!!! yay!!!! and i kinda already understand japanese but only like what they want to know if they r talking to me. i actually learned it from anime. and when i read manga i actually sometimes use japanese words instead of english when reading it. hehe......kinda addicted to the language. its fun to say..

  • lol :D

  • LOL I am a chicken xD

  • that's it? I only learned Tori desu =P

  • where can you watch the whole serese?

  • Goooood!

    Fun fun fun.

    Great

  • kawaii! hagimemashite watshi wa maria hose desu! yoroshiku onegai shima desu!

  • Haha, unfortunate name for an American in Japan.

  • Watch Anime? Read Manga? Be a ninja? Do something you've already been doing? How about just have a decent Japanese conversation with a Japanese person about how you'd love to go to a traditional Japanese festival and see their temples? No, you're right, that's too boring.

  • Are you guys going to make more videos like this? It was very entertaining :D

  • I'm a chicken!

  • OK, so I don't know a lick of Japanese except a few words here or there, but I would really like to learn. Where do I begin?

  • @Phatnaru0001 The Kanji de Manga books, available on our website, are great for beginners. :-)

  • @mangauniversity thanx ill be sure to save up some money to get em.

  • @mangauniversity why does manga university con people? i mean, the quality of teaching is....well

  • @BrokenWingsKai Actually, we don't con anybody. But you are always entitled to your opinion. Have a nice day.

  • @mangauniversity [part 1] actually you do...and its not opinion, its fact. MU is a vanity scam aimed at getting money from naive artists....your most recent made me lol considerably. the one where you offer an artist a page in ''manga without borders''. now what you fail to mention in all your marketing on this is that there is an entry fee of $20 + $100 for your work to be on the page (if it even makes it to the shoddy book in the first place....[continue to part 2]

  • @mangauniversity ...oh yeah...have a nice day >_>

  • @BrokenWingsKai ...[part 2] a legitimate publisher will NEVER charge for submission or application fees...you lure artists by praising their work no matter the quality.

now. to anyone who thinks of signing up to MU, bare in close mind that it is a scam. if you`d like proof then simply type into google - ''is manga university a scam?'' alternatively go onto DeviantArt (the home of professional comikers and publishers alike) and look up manga university.

  • Manga University books have been translated into 10 different languages and have sold more than 3 million copies worldwide. Our artists have been featured on television, magazines (including WIRED), newspapers and at university workshops. The Japanese government has given us an award. The American Library Association has selected our "Manga Cookbook" as one of the "Top 10 Popular Paperback for 2011." Yep, you're right. We're totally a scam ;-)

  • @mangauniversity owned lol

  • @mangauniversity I love Manga University! You guys are no scam :D

  • @Mirandacossy Thank you!

  • Hi! Hmmm, I just want to know, how many days will I have to wait to receive all the materials you give with the Home Study Course Bundle? I live in Canada Québec.

  • @TheGreatDragonRyuu We ship all orders from the Manga University Campus Store via Priority Mail. Delivery to Canada takes about one week.

  • Actually that's how I have taught myself to learn japanese is through listening to anime while reading, I can say goodmorning, what, why, no, yes, hello, goodbye, everyone, where are you, I'm scared, calm down, different colors, numbers.. and alot more just by watching a TON of anime.. the only thing I want to do is read Japanese... so I can read manga.. but japanese is SO confusing!!!!!

  • ...Aaaand this is EXACTLY how the first day of Japanese went at my college too. All the otaku's died off after the first exam though. Shiwachi-sensai was intense. Her husband worked at Kikoman for crap's sake!

  • Im kinda proud that I understood the teacher without reading the subtitle... But I want to learn how to speak AND read Japanese!!!

  • @deph008 You can learn to read Japanese from our award-winning book series, "Kanji de Manga." Check 'em out on our website ^_^

  • hahaha...I have a cousin named Tori. I can't wait to tell her what her name means in japanese.

  • I've rarely heard tori mean chicken. It usually means bird. I've more often heard chicken as "chikin". Plus, that teacher needs to learn the language her students speak before teaching her own.
