We used to have so many sleep-overs: poker, beer and Bob- all night long. One of his characters was named Ga-roro, and Bob would slap him around more and more as the night wore on. I think Bob was tipping a few himself.
I had a blast as a kid growing up in the late 60's, early 70's watching Bob Shreve on the PPP. It was clear to virtually everyone that Bob would tie one on every Saturday night. As the night went on Bob would get more and more drunk and that's when it got truly bizzare and downright hilarious. I loved this show. Bob is a big part of classic Cincinnati television, 2nd only to the Cool Ghoul, of course.
I always watched Bob Shreve on tv for many years. I've heard the song in the background but I never knew the title of that song or the people who made it. I know it's an old song from the 50's I think. Does anyone know what the song is or who made it? I saw Bob at Cincinnati Gardens one time when he wore that green plaid suit with the tie that would raise up. Miss you Bob! Thanks
I was five years old. me and my dad watched all the time. For me i didn't make it all the time i fall asleep.:(. wish i was a little older then i would stay up all night.60's and the 70's in cincinnati was the best for tv.We had the best programs cool ghoul,Larry Smith and his Puppets.Uncle al show.
I was watching him on WHIO 7 one night close to 40 years ago & he started singing the Schoenling jingle & knocked over a bottle or two of beer...funny stuff.
Grew up with Bob...use to even call in to the show just to have my name announced over the air. One of the very FEW good memories I had from living in that hell hole called Cincinnati.
my step dads dad was a guest on night. His name was Amon Greer, he was a blind piano player. he played a Sorrento's in reading. i'll never forget i was about 7 years old and Amon didn't get there until late and i stayed up all night to watch. that was some good stuff !!!!
Was Sorrentos the piano bar that had singalongs? My stepdad went on a regular basis. There was a female singer there who was on the plump side and they sang all the oldies. I even went with him once. Haven't thought about that in years.
OMG, I absolutely adored Bob Shreve. My aunt got his autograph for me at a restaurant during her lunch hour in Cincinnati. He has been gone since about 1990, and I really miss him. He was so funny!
Wow...thanks so much for posting this. I remember Bob Shreve when he was on WCPO too. Seeing this made me smile and tear up at the same time...I just wish I could see him say, "Someone wants to see Chickie a little longer" while he stretched a rubber chicken, or hear him say, "Dayton, now that's a fur piece" while holding up a piece of fur. He was corny but a hoot.
Same here growing up me and my freinds would stay up all night watching Past prime playhouse every saturday night. We really didnt even care for the cheezy movies (Biily the Kid versus Dracula)semed was on every few weeks. But watching Bob was a Blast.Remember his pet Spidel?
Bob Shreve was a big part of my weekends. My pal and me would stay over at each other's house, always watching BS. He was sooo corny and sooo funny. The live Schoenling commercials-- What fun it was when an older kid told us where the beer Bob poured for commercials wound up.
He and Paul Dixon are two of my great TV memories.
Bob Shreve was one of a kind! Us kids used to stay up (as late as our eyes would let us) back in the 70s when this show first came on the air. We started watching it almost from the beginning, and watched purely for Bob's wrap around segments - they could've run dead air for the movies for all we cared. Loved the characters, too: Ramone, Garoro, Spidel... this show was brilliant in its simplicity. And Bob was witty & a delight to watch. Wonderful entertainment.
this is John brown from Sadieville kentucky Bob used to read my letters on the air I wrote to him I never missed him every Sat be there watching bob enjoying every minute brings me back to being a childhood me and my brother David would stay all night just to what BoB would do next loving it thanks for posting this on

Bob Shreve was a part of a my life!!
Friday night was the Cool Ghoul!!
Saturday night was Bob Shreve's Past Prime Playhouse.
Past Prime Playhouse was a commercial for Schoeling Brewery {or Little Kings}.
Bob Shreve was pretty trashed by 2am or 4am.
What fun it was for a child!!
Watching "A King & I" with Bob Shreve is an experience I will never forget!!
