  • the only reason the land they are on keeps disapearing is because of hurricanes and ocean waves moving the sand. no one lives on shack and there aren't any houses or hotels. thanks to the federal government who took it over in 1986...

  • the locals of harkers island who did have camps/houses over there were forced to burn them down or move them, and the locals who maintained were no longer able to do so because the government now owned the property...

  • i'm glad they govt took it over so that now it's not full of condos and crap built by tourist.... but i'm sad that the life i knew and my family knew is long gone! there were many wonderful times and great memories back when Harkers Island was the Harkers Island the TRUE locals miss..

  • Great video!

  • my band teacher showed me this at band camp, becausse we played a song call "Shackle Ford Banks" it was really fun!

  • Nice video, I camped on Shackleford for two days and nights with my friend and our dogs. :) I love it there, I have been several times. Thanks for sharing the nice video of them playing int he water. :)

  • Their land on Shackleford is actually not disappearing. You're not allowed to build on that island - it's all preserved. The horses are so beautiful! I would love to take a boat ride out there again.

  • the whole idea of these horses just being here and surving this long is simply amazing. It's a shame that their lands keep disappearing for hotels and houses. Shameful.
