Jesus, so much NEGATIVITY!!! I'm marching my first summer of corp this summer, and I respect BD for what they do. I might not like them some years, but I still RESPECT them. They're all AMAZING musicians, and I've talked to the center snare from Cavi's '09, and he said that corp was one of the Hardest thing he had ever done. Respect these musicians for what they play, don't sit behind a computer and say how much shit the show was if you haven't done it yourself.
When you mess up that many attacks and 16ths, it's easy to tell that you had stupid techs who spent blocks rehearsing only the hard stuff. You know you suck when you can play crazy shit together and fuck up the attack going into it. Oh yeah, BD, you shouldn't have won, your talent pool and sponsoring finals won't save you this year.

@NumberNile actually what that indicates is that there are problems with communication along the line. these guys have the ear and the hands to play together. they just had a problem communicating within the line throughout the season. I'm gonna guess that it was probably personal conflict that kept them from getting really tight as a section and getting that "vibe" going that they had last year.

@usfguy85 I really do think that in the past decade the books have substituted musical innovation with flash gordon solos and chinsy line breaks. Go back to mid 90s lines for example; creativity, books were difficult because they were interwoven within the line, there wasn't this "give and go" upper battery solo trade off that inevitably ends with a unison roll, and effort to make the line great was placed by the "line" and not the individual instruments showing off. Im disappointed that they used pearl this year and their bass tuning sounded awful. I still think that this years book was my favorite book that they played in a long time
Crazy control even at the low levels. The only people that can hate on this drum break are the people who are pissed that BD is where its at right now.
I don't know how the rest of you feel, But playing those "16th notes" at that tempo marking, and also playing the paradiddle and paradidlediddle passages. THEN playing singles, then playing triple strokes, while keeping the rhythm consistent and for that long. And to end it by adding a crescendo to decrescendo. Then with the quarter note rest and have a clean attack on single "16th notes" at a dynamic marking of Fortississimo. The control to actually play that is absolutely amazing.
i saw that end in the lot break like 4 times in person. almost no other corps had breaks in the lot like BD. and they completely shit stuff out all the time (likeopieandchong) said
I knew this tenor line was going to get a sweet break this year.. They are TIGHT. Feel bad for the snares though.. Nothing flashy really, just 16ths through the roof with varied stickings. At least it's clean, haha =P

Ok first of all, BDs line is amazing every year, try to at least recognize why they win and get the attention. 2008 had a musical concept while no it wasnt that great of a feature the concept was good. The drumline copying the drumset. 2009 they were just creative and clean. Give me another batter that used cross meters in the break. And this year its just a control thing. And the overall book is way more difficult that any other lines but its not as clean yet.

It's so funny when people call a drum corps the best ever!! While I like many Blue Devil shows over the years, I haven't always found their shows or even many other corps championship years to necessarily be the most entertaining. I can think of dozens of shows that have been more entertaining than a particular corps championship show. The term 'THE BEST" can be very subjective. Just because a show is cleaner than someone else's doesn't in my opinion make it the most entertaining. IMHO!
Blue Devils are good, no doubt, but they're nothing like they used to be. There hasn't been a Devs line that was worth all of the buzz since the 90s. Sorry to say it but they DEFINITELY didn't deserve drums last year and they DEFINITELY didn't deserve drums in 07. Politics plays just as heavy in DCI as it does everywhere else.

this was cleaner than finals (as far as the snares go). The snares dirted out on the last 4 notes of the break.....BOTH TIMES THEY PLAYED IT.

I knew this tenor line was going to get a sweet break this year.. They are TIGHT. Feel bad for the snares though.. Nothing flashy really, just 16ths through the roof with varied stickings. At least it's clean, haha =P

Quick message to all the jealous faggots out there - BD is the greatest, most celebrated marching organization in the history of time, and they've got the hardware to prove it. And guess what? They're the best again this year. Hate them all you want, but you can't argue with results. So all of you Phantom Regiment/SCV/Cadets bandwagon-riding losers should probably develop an appreciation for the taste of dust, because ya'll will be eating the Blue Devils' for a long time. lol

Ok first of all, BDs line is amazing every year, try to at least recognize why they win and get the attention. 2008 had a musical concept while no it wasnt that great of a feature the concept was good. The drumline copying the drumset. 2009 they were just creative and clean. Give me another batter that used cross meters in the break. And this year its just a control thing. And the overall book is way more difficult that any other lines but its not as clean yet.

It's so funny when people call a drum corps the best ever!! While I like many Blue Devil shows over the years, I haven't always found their shows or even many other corps championship years to necessarily be the most entertaining. I can think of dozens of shows that have been more entertaining than a particular corps championship show. The term 'THE BEST" can be very subjective. Just because a show is cleaner than someone else's doesn't in my opinion make it the most entertaining. IMHO!

Blue Devils are good, no doubt, but they're nothing like they used to be. There hasn't been a Devs line that was worth all of the buzz since the 90s. Sorry to say it but they DEFINITELY didn't deserve drums last year and they DEFINITELY didn't deserve drums in 07. Politics plays just as heavy in DCI as it does everywhere else.

And if you're looking at what they've done lately, BD is still better than Cavies, having won 2 of the last 3 titles. Cavies took home a title in 06, nothing to speak of since then.
