I used to question myself, few years back when I Was studying. Now being in america for past few years, I realize the meaning. Hats off for the beautiful song and raju's golden voice
I stay in US and this song and lyrics always moves me, whenever I hear this. Everytime I visit Bangalore, I am shocked to find young people not taking pride in speaking Kannada. They mainly speak English.(even if its not needed!)
I find Kannadigas here show more inclination towards our culture.
Wonderful movie and lyrics. Thanks for the upload.
This really touches my wonderful memory and compell me to comment here............Raju was one year senior to me at National College Jayanagar (NCJ). I simply put it this way that he is one among the most talented personalities & a Jewel. I am also a great fan of his Harmonium playing skills......
Known to all of us earlier as Satya Prakash......... it is very sad that he has left us a wonderful past memory and his impeccable voice...........
Wonderful song.I love Akshay anand very much.During my childhood i would never miss his TV serials. Idon't know what kind of attachment i have with him .May be he looks like my brother. I cannot stop my tears everytime i recollect the death scene from this movie.
Me a non-kannadiga living in Bangalore wonders why the cultural and film world of Kannada is at stake when we have a large body of literature and poems in Kannada with great literary merit. Neglect and lack of enterprising are to be blamed for the current vacuum and Bangalore is fast losing its pan-Kannada culture and consequently the city will turn into a wasteland.
@oberon414 Cultural world - safe, secure and promising - not at stake. Film world - yes. The reasons are plenty. Bangalore is not the whole Karnataka, mind you. And even in Bangalore Kannada culture is vibrant since last 10-20 years than ever before.
I am glad to see your reply. I agree that there are elements to revive and protect the culture. But that may not be enough. Though not familiar with North Karnataka (including the cultural capital Dharwad) I am familiar to South Canara and Malnad Region. Yes, people speak their own mother tongue. But like all other parts of India there is one feature is common to these places- crumbling rural place. The great cultures cannot survive at such conditions.
Educated and bred to develop a preference to Western literature did not stop A.N.Moorthy Rao to stop contributing to Kannada Literature. Similarly, P. Lankesh. He was 'global' and yet completely rooted in the soil of Kannada. It was their times allowed them to bloom. The current atmosphere is not conducive for such existences though feeble imitations and adaptations of the icons take place occasionally.
@eyespice I bet a dollar if you can make a single kannadiga to speak one full sentence in pure kannada!. They are absolutely useless shit! and fake people. Kannada literature is alive still and the language is still being used just because of the kannada people who are living outside Bangalore. Have you ever watched a Bangalore kannadiga speaking English?, they literally spit words as if a donkey having dehydration is shitting on the street and running. Bangalore -YUCK!
This song doesn't have to mean to someone outside India. ee haadu ondhu hennu thanna taayi ooru bittu bere kade hoguvavlige kooda anuvahisatte.
Someone who has moved out of India with their own wish can also feel the depth of this song. I feel that, at some or the other point of time in life this song applies to everyone.
Let us not talk about politics and countries here. The lyricist has just written it from his point of view. Whoever can relate to it will enjoy it.
beutifil i saw this movie countless times even though every time i feel fresh.the songs are realy means.touches heart.great work by nagthi sir, hats off sir.

guilty feeling baruthe ??? yaake? If u r in the US and u like it here, then just dont listen to such songs...I donno why Indians come up with these kinda emotional songs to emotionally black mail us? What is the writer trying to suggest? Just rot in India...Dont use ur knowledge in a place where it is actually encouraged...live in a filthy political state??? Sucks...
YOU ARE SO lucky to have such a great poet as your grandfather...as far as i can remember, my grandfather rode bikes, hit on random women and smoked weed!!
kannada language is one of best in the world in terms of literature,in terms of those gr8 rich kannadalexicon, and ease with which poetic emotions mingle with kannada words is ultimate.probabaly thats why kannada is adoened with highest jnanapeeta awards(6 awards! far more than hindi!!) the highest literary award in india.the particular song is culmination of 2 gr8 poets gopalakrishna adiga and the director Naagathihalli chandrashekar.feeling high for being kannadiga.
Can anyone translate the lyrics in to English for me? I plan on going to India this summer and I really want to try and get some small grip on the wonderful culture before I go.
gopal krishna adiga should have surely been conferred "GNANAPEETA AWARD".His lines brings emotions even from a stone heart.he questions his intellect to find the million dollar question "why people prefer western countries to India.
This song was originally written as an elegy. Film crew have appropriately used this song to suit the situation in this movie. Amazingly the song gives entirely different meanings for different situations.
