I like the sound of the drums better in the album version, but I love how Plant changes the lyrics up in each version. The vocals are awesome in this! I do like it at a slower tempo though. Thanks a lot for posting this!
Absolutely no mystery after hearing this why they are the greatest rock band of all time, Plant's vocals are wild and the music rocks so hard, even though its a midtempo song. No other band can approach Zep, it isn't even close.
WHERE can I find this song? I've got their "4th" cd, and it's definitely not this version. I've also got their "All that glitters is gold bootleg" and the 2 studio versions aren't this one either! Grr!
So... I heard another version on the radio. We all know how the track was slowed down and vocals were put over it. I've been looking for the alternate version where it's studio... but the guitar is clean and chorded. I can't find it anywhere.
@luvthatzeppelin I imagine only Zep truly knows what the symbols mean. Somebody bought me a copy of that vinyl jewel as a gift- but I already had a copy. So, I have a copy in my stash that's still in its original cello wrapper, preserved for posterity.
The lyrics and Plant's vocals are better on the album version, but the instruments are better on this version, they sound a lot cleaner and have more force.
there is something about zeps lyrics man its like a mystical trip that goes somewhere years latter. I noticed this in several songs is like they are seers
Really awsome. Had the honor to see Robert Plant a couple of years ago, and they also played Levee. I was going crazy. His voice is still amazing. This is probably my favorite Zep song.
DAMN!!!! DRUMS ON THIS TRACK ARE FUCKIN RAW... BONHAM ONLY PLAYED WITH TREE TRUNKS NOT DRUMSTICKS
yo!!! if you like drums check out my Greatest Rock Drums vid....i just made it,,, i really need some feedback and comments. I love percussion work like this so if your a fan of music ill look forward to ur feedback..peace!!
oh and @Orian yea i hear you. this version is really crisp and a little mor upbeat
I remeber being in Biloxi becuase of a hurricane in Florida (Dads and friends excuse to go to casinos) then comming back after katrina. CREEPY. BTW: I freaking love bonzo in this song!
I'm a huge Zeppelin fan and this is the best You Tube EVER!!! Nice how you incorporate the second portion with the landing of the Star Ship on an overcast day. Wonderful!!
I've been an avid fan of LZ for 25 years, so ANYTHING I get to hear that's new or a little different is really exciting. This is the first time I've heard this, thanks so much for posting!

Notice how this tempo is just a hair faster? The final version was slowed down just a tad, gives it that slightly hypnotic vibe...

I always thought this song had the best recorded, biggest sounding drums in rock history.

This IS a killer version!
It sounds like the original music but cleaner and brighter instruments.
Plants vocals are recorded a little low.
The harmonica is awesome.
