  • so progressive...

  • Paul gilbert isn't buckethead you idiots. Paul Gilbert was Bucketheads mentor. That's why you notice so many similarities. They use some of the same chord progressions and arpeggios. Buckethead definantly has broken the mold with his breakaway from conventional music, but PG has an overall win in technique and sound.

  • Paul Gilbert has a far greater command over the instrument, and picks every note smoothly and consistantly. He also has a more mature ear for picking the right notes at the right time.

  • this is one of the stupidest videos I've ever seen

  • fingers look the same to me, both have freakish pinkies

  • what's the name of the first song?

  • what if Paul Gilbert IS Buckethead???

  • @arcuz92 LOL

  • @arcuz92 great question.but they arent,it has comproved when paul gilbert was in a country doing a show and buckethead in another country.that is impossible to have 2 paul Gilbert in two places.i wish it could be true but it isnt,it would be aweome and very surprise to people.

  • @DragonMasterXZ I was just joking guys!

  • I can think of one thing that buckethead has directly taken from paul gilbert and that is his famous 11 note pattern. Look up pauls 11 note pattern and then listen to the solo from welcome to bucketheadland.

  • guitar is easier when you have 12 inch fingers

  • @BAJARACER43X so true, his pinky is longer than all of my fingers

  • Buckethead wins

  • I am not a fan of Buckethead, but to deny his abilities would be stupid. The freak is probably one of the best guitarist to have ever lived. He can play off the wall, but lay back and play things (covers) exactly the way they were meant to be. Most high-end guitarist cannot be sedate when it comes to cover; effing Buckethead can hit them note for note without making them sound like shit.

  • dont forget that Buchethead did Big Sur Moon 10 years before Paul did the Echo Song so i dont know how you can say that BH has copied Paul

  • Paul Gilbert is most certainly the victor.

  • @Tigfewton Considering, Paul Gilbert is the fastest and most accurate guitarist to have ever lived... no, Buckethead can touch that.

  • @Tigfewton Should have read "cannot" touch it.

  • @kc8ntp I got what you meant. ;)

  • Maybe they both ripped those Identical licks out of nicolas slonimskys thesaurus of scales and melodic patterns

  • @C861986 Maybe so, but let's see you play it! I have been a guitarist and bassist for over 25-years and Paul Gilbert's stuff is the hardest that I have ever done. Yes, I can do some of it, but not like Paul; Buckethead doesn't even have the speed and accuracy of Paul.

  • @kc8ntp That wasnt a critisism, just an observation.

  • Don't forget the most important fact, which is Gilbert >>>>>> Buckethead in every aspect... They play in diferent leagues.

  • @WhiteDeath Just different, or do you think one is significantly better than the other?

  • @WhiteDeath Not really, since Paul taught Buckethead the more technical aspects, so they is a lot of Paul in Buckethead.

  • FYI: The delay thing is based on configuring your effect so that the repeat(s) occur "in between" the notes your are playing. At least in Paul's song it is based on the dotted 1/8 note, which is equal to a regular 1/8 plus a 1/16. Some effects let you set this, otherwise you need to calculate the milliseconds based on your tempo. Then play 1/8 notes and the effect will add the note in :

    Note 1

    Note 2

    (repeat of note 1)

    Note 3

    (repeat of note 2)

    Note 4

    (repeat of note 3)

    etc..

  • Yes kidz delay can be FUN

  • Buckethead learned to play by Paul Gilbert, he´s the Teacher from Buckethead. You can read it in WIkipedia

  • @IgorDopeman Paul only taught Buckethead for a short amount of time, not enough to have a significant impact on Buckethead's style

  • @MegaDehumanizer I dunno! you said "Nano" and then I got scared cause I didn't know what you meant!

  • @MegaDehumanizer what ddi you just call me??

  • Wow is this guy an Idiot. Paul Has always use Finger Tapping since the Beginning. He is just not famous for it. He is famous for his Alternative Picking and String Skipping technique.

  • @MegaDehumanizer Have you ever used slaback delay effect? Paul has it on single repeat while Buckethead has it repeat multiple times so it echos more thats why it sounds cleaner with Paul

  • @MegaDehumanizer lol no I'm not even going by this recording I'm going by the Buckethead album recording so no. PG's sounds cleaner because he is using less delay. Its on less of a repeat. Use your ears please.

  • @MegaDehumanizer plus Paul's is cleaner because he is using less delay so you dont hear all that extra delay slap noise

  • @MegaDehumanizer what are you talking about. it's awesome.

  • Except that they play it completely different. Buckethead uses ONLY upstrokes in Big Sur Moon. PG is alternate picking.

  • Comment removed

  • @MegaDehumanizer that doesn't make sense

  • @MegaDehumanizer I like both but I actually like what Paul is playing more

  • I think pgbuckethead may be alluding to the possibility that Gilbert is BucketHead.

  • Paul taught Buckethead for a bit. So their riffs would be similar.

  • PG tought BH so this is his version lol tho i think BH is PG they both have the fucking long fingers

  • badasssssssssssss

  • or Paul Gilbert could be BucketHead. But this was awesome. Paul Gilbert has taught alot. Buckethead does sound like he has some type of schooling like from Berkley. Its the technical playing you could tell he had some good teaching.

  • lol, You do know that Big Sur Moon came out first right?

  • I am buckethead

  • @UberTroll13 O,O HOLY GOD OF THE GUITARISTS!

  • i think id rather listen to the echo song

  • bucket up paul down

  • Paul was Buckethead teacher for almost a year that's we're they get the similar sounds.

  • Same teacher!

     bah

  • The first comparison is just playing fast on a delay, there's nothing similar about the riffs other than that. The second part is 2 hand tapping, an extremely common practice. I'm guessing the creator of this video isn't a guitar player.

  • @joeyhoser and im guessing you dont pay attention. the second part first of all isnt even 2 hand tapping. and its also the EXACT same. dumbass

  • @joeyhoser the third part is the one thats tapping

  • @joeyhoser Its not fast tapping though, watch the demo for the echo song. He plays a high feedback with the delay but plays in staccato.

  • @joeyhoser not a delay its reverb hence the echo but your right theres actually a difference in the style and play type of each one

  • @joeyhoser can you do it?

  • @joeyhoser so you really can't notice the same patterns. I'm guessing you are tone deaf or can't admit what's obvious. Bucket's a great, amazing player and I'm his fan, but he uses way more patterns than what I'd expect from a guitar player like him...

  • @joeyhoser The first clips are both melodic chord progressions formed by playing muted 4th notes with 3/8 delay, equal dry and wet levels. The second one shows almost the exact same lick with very similar fingering. I'm guessing you're just a flamebait, but 31 thumbs up, seriously?

  • @ArvonLisaVero I was about to say the same thing and then i saw your post. and then they do the alternate picking at around 1:56 that is almost the exact same...

  • @joeyhoser

Is it really that hard to read the description?

  • I definitely hear Paul Gilbert and Buckethead in each other's playing. Although they still both have unique styles.

  • i feel so retarded what is the song at the beginning i should know this

  • @daniltv1 big sur moon

  • @PIMPZproduction ya i remembered it,now I'm practicing it on my guitar

  • FYI Paul taught Buckethead guitar before he was known as buckethead

  • @JoshtheGuitarist5150 Yeah I've heard that said before... do you know anywhere I can find Paul Gilbert talking about Buckethead? Or something just as useful lol

  • @1234gnrslash I havent seen or heard anything other than that. I was talking to my boss about it and he just told me that Paul was Bucketheads teacher.

  • @JoshtheGuitarist5150 Oh...I've seen it in some places, but considering how vague practically all knowledge about Buckethead is... I really dunno lol. But it wouldn't suprise me.

  • This is Boring!

  • That white faced robot with the computer noises from the guitar is making my head explode.

  • @softchewy then dont watch... freakin loser...

  • @RonnieBora It was a compliment.

  • @WickeDFate4 oh sorry then... sounded weird to me...

  • @RonnieBora Go fuck yourself cunt

  • @softchewy real mature... retard/... proves ur brain functions are as poor as ur sense of music!

  • BUCKETHEAD USE PEDAL BUT paul gilbert doesnt and he can still pull it off

  • @TheAsyrafbadrul They both use pedals...

  • very mice

  • Totally not the same bro. Completely different.

  • I find it weird people seem to think that buckethead leard somuch from paul gilbert. He practiced with him just under a year they just have similar styles at time

  • Comment removed

  • ever notice you never see Paul and Buckethead in the same room

  • pebber brown was his main teacher!!!

  • To all you dumbasses, Paul isnt the only person who gave buckethead lessons.

  • @remm55 THANK YOU!

  • @RagingK9Fury haha your welcome dude, im glad im not the only one who feels that way lol Buckethead only studied with paul for a year, people act like he spent his whole with him, not to mention, Big Sur Moon came out before Paul made that video with the same effect

  • @remm55 Yep =)

  • i wish paul gilbert could teach me guitar ....

  • This video is soooo idiot! They both use delay - and is it realy only them two who uses it?. They both play same scale. And is it only them two who plays it? And the third example...well... They were very different...

  • paUL glBErT (TEaCHEr) . .bUcKeTheAd (sTudENT)

  • @pressleyjohannes problem with your caps lock?

  • paul gilbert is not 6'5

  • @GuitarMusica112 no, paul is 6'4

  • @pabloandradel cool story bro

  • Same licks? Don't you mean the same setting on the delay pedal?

  • @BaneOfXistence4 Id finger tap the shit out of it whilst eating kfc with one hand just for the hell of it.. ok maybe a lil sad.. :')

  • Comment removed

  • @BaneOfXistence4 Actually Paul is not using delay.

  • so are these two riffs supposed to sound similar or something??? They both use a similar echo effect, but other than that the really aren't similar. I love them both and they're both great but I don't see the relationship...

  • And to all the people who ask if PG and Bucket are the same person, get past it, man. I personally stood with the two of them together at the same time, many times... at the Troub in HWood, at the Country Club in Reseda, hell, even at the Fontana Civic Center, LOL- at clinics, the NAMM show, etc., etc... and I can say that I am 6' 5" and they are both taller than me. I think Paul might be a hair taller- but the chicken bucket wins. Like Fletch, 6'5", but 6' 9" with the afro...

  • @willaminabieber101 pics or get out

  • Is that Louie? You know, I rarely ever comment about Big B, but sometimes the comparisons to other players get old. The only guy he didn't eat alive with a guitar was Shawn Lane, and of course he will tell you that himself.

  • It's probably worth mentioning that Big Sur Moon came out in 1998 while Paul Gilbert's song came out in 2006.

  • search for Paul Gilbert jamming Rare Video watch it then show me a vid of buckethead for the same year and oh he is younger then paul sooooo yeah need i say more?

  • ummm are you all seriously comparing buckethead to paul gilbert..........? honestly.......? have you listened to them back to back.... seriously it is paul gilbert, enough said!

  • Yeah, OK... I went to Damien HS with him, then I sang in a band with him for a few years... my name is Bob.

  • @willaminabieber101 I guess I should have realized I was logged in under my daughter's profile... but yeah, Mango, I was Maximum Bob, and Big B and I used to be great friends...

  • @willaminabieber101 Hey Bob, your daughter takes right after you.....singing like she means it. Great to hear from you!

I know its you because you correctly stated that you and Bucket USED to be good friends. How are you doing????

  • he was attacked by a chicken when he was young thats why he wears the mask

  • Put this comparison in the proper perspective... Bucket did Big Sur Moon long BEFORE that video of Paul Gilbert playing in a similar fashion... Paul was a big early influence, but I think Paul later showed an interest in Big B's playing. I spent hours with Brian on an almost daily basis when he was taking lessons from Paul... his influence was arpeggiating, scales and picking techniques, but Bucket has style and creativity that far surpassed his teachers. Paul can't play funk..... Nuff Said.

  • @willaminabieber101 You spent hours with him huh? Somehow I doubt that....

  • Funny how when Edge uses echo he's a hack, but when Buckethead utilizes it, 25 years later, he's brilliant. Lol.

  • @skrason ;;; The Edge. you mean the guitarist from "U2" ?

  • @skrason What a fucking stupid statement.

  • Paul has a technical classical style. While Bucket took both that aspect and added just a bit blues style which in my opinion gave him a bit better edge. Both too good for me. haha!

  • Jesus guys stop comparing... this video is just to show you paul influence to buckethead

  • i am now convinced they are the same person

  • gilbert songs dont show any feelings, however buckethead songs are just feelings

  • That reminds me, I want some KFC

  • stupid vid.. @ 2:02..that was not paul gilbert..it was me..

  • Actually they all got it from Yngiwe check out echotude (i think thats the name). In fact Gilmore really brought the delay pedal to mainstream music.

  • @aurosne Thats the echo effect.. this video is about the basis of the riffs.

  • I'm pretty sure anyone with a delay pedal has played a lick similar to the ones in the beginning.. it's just playing in sync with the delayed note

  • Why does it matter whose better? And their similar riffs are really because Buckethead and Paul are close friends, and Buckethead studied under paul for a while when he was learning guitar. It's not a shocking surprise they'd have a similar style/licks but it doesn't mean they're not their own individual people. They're both great.

  • is this supposed to be mind blowing or something? i mean, its kool and all, but you'd expect this to happen. nice video tho, movie maker ftw lol

  • i like buckets sound more

  • Paul has a loony eccentric side to him no doubt, and I could imagine his alter ego being something like Bucket, watch their hands and how they use both right and left, they are in fact very similar in form and function. Paul could dress up like Bucket for Halloween and no one would be the wiser, including the playing, but I can't go so far as to say they are the same, do we have any proof of them being in two places at the same time?

  • @sirthor00 Buckethead is taller. And his real name is Brian Carroll

  • In big sur moon bucket used a riff from mortal kombat

  • @grosblyth buckethead wrote the theme tune for mortal kombat...

  • buckethead is way better than paul gilbert!!!

  • 1:51 where I can find this technique, please

  • Paul gilbert plays better.

  • Mike Portnoy was partially influenced by Bartók, but that doesn't makes him Bartók :p

  • if buckethead is paul gilbert or paul gilbert is buckethead, how cares?

  • and they both got the idea from Eddie Van Halen, and Nuno Bettencourt has used it too. Who knows where Eddie got the idea

  • Comment removed

  • 1:55 those actually arent the same lick...bucket isnt going to the g string(isnt strumming through the g b and e strings)its actually a much shorter version of what paul does after

  • I made a song with delay , did I get my patterns from Paul Gilbert ?

  • big sur moon came before the echo song, yngwie used that paul gilbert lick before paul did, iceman came before fuzz universe, and binge and grab came before hurry up. to be perfectly honest i think buckethhead influenced paul more than paul influenced buckethead, but they both have rubbed off on each other obviously.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I agree with you mate.

  • @bigdogmark45

buckethead doesn't string skip better than paul. if you don't give him that then you're just musically retarded.

  • @Fluffypopcicle That is true, but Buckethead makes actual music. Paul does too, it's just not as moving as Buckethead's stuff.

  • @UnknownSect333

in general, but paul does have some very moving stuff. i still have that other girl is my personal favorite from paul along with propeller.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Wow, I've never heard those, but they're awesome! I don't know though, there's just something about Buckethead's music that reaches me more...

  • @UnknownSect333

yeah, me too. his music is just so zen-like. so beautiful. it's not easy to describe, but lets just leave it at it's beautiful.

  • @bigdogmark45 Paul scum? GTFO troll... Go to listen JB douchebag

  • @bigdogmark45

Buckethead himself had says that... ;-) (in an interview or something else)

  • @bigdogmark45 out you go troll

  • Many people say they're the same person...

  • just remember big sur moon came out 8 years before echo song

  • How do we know paul and Buckethead aren't the same person?

  • @CheeseFlareUK are they the same height?

  • @CheeseFlareUK compare the tour dates ;)

  • @CheeseFlareUK

    Buckethead = Brian Carroll

    Paul Gilbert = Paul Gilbert

  • @CheeseFlareUK buckethead has a name and is much younger than paul, besides he is way more taller

  • @CheeseFlareUK Let's compare the pinkie sizes and we can tell.

  • @CheeseFlareUK we know it cause there many people who have seen buckethead without the bucket and the mask

  • @CheeseFlareUK No look the pinky's gilbert and the pinky of Buckethead LOL

  • @LikeDuff It was a joke lol

  • @CheeseFlareUK You can find pictures of Bucket head when he went as Brian Carol, not the same person.

  • @CheeseFlareUK Headphones are a neccesity

  • @CheeseFlareUK

Paul Gilbert maid some word about that and he sweared he is not .

And to be pointfull (sorry for my english ) i don't think Ibanez and gibson can like the way to make guitar for the same person

Or try to speak to IRS they know :p

  • @CheeseFlareUK Me and my guitar teacher talked about the exact same thing for like an hour one time..
