  • Do I see an tremol-no in that strat back there

  • dude, first, it seems to me that you're wasting EMG's on a transistor crappy amplifier. So, for that, fuck you xD Second, did you really waste money in 2 EMG 81? why didn't you get an 81/85 EMG set? Third, when you do alternated picking, what moves is actually your wristle and not your whole fore arm! still, the intention was good so, have a nice evening xD

  • @fgst5 hahahaha - First, Tube amp cost a lot of money, something rare these days for me :P Second, This is actually a 81 85 set.... I just switched the pickups...... Third, I know that and I work on that too :P

  • crapola

  • tune this guitar bro cause sounds like shit

  • Меньше диста выкручивай и гитару настрой чудила...

  • Its a shame you are runnin dist. pedals through the clean channel of that XXL.... the Dist on that amp is killer. Or even set it at half gain and us a TS-9... Shame...

  • @CavScoutZombie sorry to disapoint you, but if you look on the video, I put a crappy white computer mic in front of a speaker, that explains a lot of things. Since I bought that amp, My boss GT-6 is getting dust on it. So there's no pedal plugged in it. But soon or later i'll make a New video. I have now a Shure amp mic. i'll use it next time.

  • @LTDusersince99 Hey man... i never said it sounded bad... i'm just sayin you can a better cleaner dist tone from the amp witha TS-9. Not hatin man.

  • @CavScoutZombie I tried... well with the TS-9 simulator in the GT-6 going straight in the amp (no amp simulator or whatever with) and the Zakk Wylde Overdrive too. It's true that it gives mon punch and attack and a killer tone. But I hope one day to find an overdrive that don't suck bass. That's what happenned in my previous test. It didn't affect that much too. I did the same on a AVT150 Marshall head and It gave a lot more punch. The gain is not that heavy on the marshall

  • 3:36 for some real SHIT

  • @flagnarg1 Это реальное дерьмо))

  • emg 85 sounds alittle more bassy?

  • @BlackOpJ45 more high too, and higher output, but it's not a better version of the 81, that one got his own distinctive sound

  • Kickass enter sandman riff :)

  • im getting and esp m1 and thinking of putting a white 85 in the bridge to play parkway stuff if anyoneknows if it sounds good plz reply to dis

  • @dropbguitar thanks

  • @dropbguitar well im getting them 4 chrismas :)

  • for a thicker sound the 85 goes on the bridge??

  • @livepunx ear and judge by yourself.

  • Emg Review: Shred + a little rhytm + shred. Your EMG Review: EXIIIIIIIIIIT LIGHHHT! ENTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!

  • RNT THEY THE SAME

  • I immediately respected you when you started playing Enter Sandman.

  • @flimflam0069 It's in my opinion one of the song that gives the EMG tone the best

  • how about you quit complaining?!

  • Screw anyone who says you have all that equipment and you suck?wtf! who cares. i have a PRS, Fender, and a LTD and im not some virtuoso! Keep it up dude dont let fags like most of these guys on here get ya down!

  • @cardinalxmusic I agree, and I am still buying instruments and still playing music, and making free shows for the students at my university. I suggest to those jealous people to do the same. for their own happiness haha

  • @cardinalxmusic exactly,i have a music man jp6,a sterling ax40,dean mab-1 armorflame, schecter california vintage, an ibanez rg and a homemade guitar i am not really that good. i just like guitars :D keep it up dude :P

  • tuner isn't so expensive man, peace.. i use EMGs too

  • @bimariyanto haha no one believes me when I say it's because of the poor mic and recording process..... I'm so sad

  • Nice vid man. The Enter Sandman riff sounds awsome.

What is your favorite setup with the Emg's?

    Neck - 81

    Bridge - 85

    Or the other way around?

By the way, what amp/gear do you use? Im looking for a real massive metalsound, just like yours.

And sorry for my english :) Greetings from DK

  • Emg's are ok but i like my seymor duncan phase2 blackouts:) well what ever, nice playing

  • like jacksons?

  • why would you play rhythm with the bridge positions pick ups?

  • @schecterguitarsfan

    huh??? why not.

  • i love pentatonics!!!!

  • Haha fuck what other people say, the fact that your learning is awesome, good work on your equipment, im the opposite i am really good and i cant afford new equipment ever. Keep up the good work mate.

  • no offense but for the amount you spend on your equipment you suck. As simple as that. And don't debate between pickups when your guitar is out of tune. Peace out

  • @elitelinkin as for many other comments like yours, its not about talent and also the guitar seem out of tune because of the cheap mic i used. And I don't want to make you angry but I still buy more guitars. And still making improvement with my passion. So, for the time you spent writing I gave you a lot of attention finally haha not worth it after a second tought haha

  • I love Peavy distortion so much haha

  • your amp sucks

  • Yes, but what pickups are his EMG's?

81 and 85? Or H and HA? (single coils in humbucker housing)

  • What's Tom Morello use?

  • @ty2drew I know that theres a guitar that have EMGs on it, he also plays with a Telecaster

  • 85 sounds warmer but muddier also in the bridge w/gain. I prefer the 81 in bridge.

  • Duh! thats why most EMGs has very high out put pickups. they're designed for METAL for sure.

  • EMG's are for metal. Theyre too sterile for music that requires definition in tone.

    Batteries are for flashlights.

  • @ForgettingWill This video was posted 2 years ago. So I don't remember,

  • @LTDusersince99 1 year but anyways

  • Thanks for this vid.

I just put an emg 81 in my guitar, after hesitating a long while, sometimes , I resented not having bought the 85 instead.

But now, no doubt, The 81 is for sure what I needed!

  • it wont kill ya to use overdrive....nvm you put it on as i typed that

  • You know if you have the same pickups in the bridge and in the neck they still sound different because they are in different positions. Lrn2 guitar please.

  • @IamKyleTheGuitarist of course I know, I also know that having a 24 fret neck instead of a 22 fret in exemple don't get the same sound, You may have noticed that the space between each pickups changes depending on the number of frets your neck has.

  • @LTDusersince99 Actually, sometimes, the spaces won't differ at all. Instead, the frets will be more squished in. I know it because I have a Razorback and then I took a look at the Razorback 255. The 255 had 24 frets but still had the exact pickup spacing. I wish I had a 255 version of my Razorback simply because of the 24 frets.

  • @race1717 I would say that I also seen that particular 24 frets and pickup spacing on the Epiphone Prophecy series wich Have 24 frets and are longer than standart epiphones (exemple : les paul models) and it seems that the pickup spacing are the same too.

  • EMG'S are pickups mainly used for Metal lol!

  • I think EMG 85 it´s better for solos and 81 should be in the bridge

  • 81 is best only in bridge position

  • how can u tell which is 81 and which is 85?

  • @block99h5 dude haha it's written when I switch

  • @LTDusersince99

i mean like do they hav a differnece in looks

so i can tell which one is which on my guitar:P

  • @block99h5 yep, when it's written EMG in silver it's a 81, if it's gold it's a 85, You can also look under the pickup too to see wich one you have

  • TUNE YOUR GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @cheeseinc which string is out of tune? really? i hear a perfectly in tune guitar.

  • @mosquitohaterAK The high E string man, its shockingly out of tune! OR, your intonation is out cause it doesnt seem to be as out of tune when you play past the 12th fret, but with those first position open chords, it is very apparent.

  • @cheeseinc it sounds to me like it's flat, but only on the lower frets. i have the same problem with the g string on my les paul and my c-1. it'll be in tune open, and way sharp on the first few frets, perfect at the 12th fret, and a little flat as you go higher. i've thought maybe i should get one of those earvana nuts.

  • @mosquitohaterAK all ya need to do man, is check your intonation and then you should be fine cause it sounds like its only the high E string and up past the 12th fret, it sounds fine. so get that checked and you should be fine :) i just bought the nicest guitar, its an Ibanez S Series S570DXQM, its a light purple with a blue tinge to it with a quilted maple top. and sounds amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 85 is niiiice :)

  • Nice warrior in the background. Love those axes.

  • @vonnagel I invite you to watch my other videos, I do a sound check of my warrior in it

  • ok i have a set of EMGs on my guitar but i have no idea if theyre 81 60s 85 81s HZs or what ever because i bought the guitar used and it had them custom on it. is there any way to tell? it takes one 9 volt battery but otherwise idk what they are how can i tell?

  • @wyoskater ok, You can do the difference by watching under each pickups it's supposed to be writen there. You can also watch the coloc of the EMG logo on the pickup, silver = 81, gold = 85, dark silver = 60, bronze = 81 coil splitable. You also have emg HZ (the passive one), and EMG X

  • @LTDusersince99 ok so my neck pickup is gold i believe and the bridge is a silver so that would be 81 85?

  • @wyoskater I would say so, you can go to the EMG site if you want to be sure

  • @LTDusersince99 which is supposed to be in neck and which in bridge position i think the guy that set it up was stupid and has them backwards its set up 85 in bridge and 81 in neck is that right?

  • @wyoskater it's a simple matter of taste. you can switch them if you want, it's plug and play kind of pickup, no soldering at all. My video was made in that purpose, I was trying to tell you how each pickups sound in each position.

  • @LTDusersince99 so for a metal sound like metallica trivium etc should i switch them?

  • @wyoskater

I'm pretty sure Kirk Hammett uses a set of 81's

  • @Maxamilieon he uses 81/60

  • @wyoskater Yeah it's taste man. I prefer 2 85's but, if i have to use both i put the 81 in the neck and the 85 in the bridge. I do alot of leads in the neck position where the 81 rpomotes linearity of tone, compression and distortion it works better for me to have that there. I'd use 2 85's or 2 89s personaly though. I hate 81's. a 60A neck is always cool too.

  • @wyoskater there is also a sticker that says under the pick up

  • @wyoskater silver's 81,gold's 85,blue/grey is 60,white is H,red denotes the 81/tw and 89. the old 89 uses a copper color scheme. silver generaly denotes ceramic as well and gold alnico.

  • I LIKE 81 GOOD JOB

  • Tune the damn guitar :OOOO

  • nice job, thanks!!!

  • emg sucks T_T

  • You should always make sure you are in tune when you put something on the internet

  • @ignobooboo unless you pay me too do so :) i'll listen to you haha, I think that my mic is doing something wrong, I would have noticed something during my session. Next time, i'll take a real mic, not a crappy computer mic

  • @ignobooboo .. thats wht i thought :L was abit out when playing the clean.. but awsome guitar playing (Y)

  • @ignobooboo you should always attempt to act like a complete asshole when you say something on the internet. :D

  • I'm thinking about getting EMG:s. I really like the clean tone of the EMG60 and I'm most likely going to put it in my neck position. I'm just not sure weather to get a 81 or 85 in the bridge. The 81 sounds tight enough, but it's also a bit sterile sometimes. The 85 has more deapth to it, but it sounds too "loose" and crunchy sometimes.

  • @damillionmalania Dude you are right on the spot. now it's time to choose between what you really like more, anyway, it's really easy to switch between each pickups :P

for me I kept the 81 on the bright for that tighness and the unique chunk when palmuting

  • You're soo out of tune man...

  • @cfhDIMEBAGcfh hehe probably. But I also put that on the mic

  • dude youd better tune your guitar or scale

    it sounds like shit

  • @SKAboy92 Yeah, next time haha If I have some time to spend on that again.

  • hey just wondering does anyone know if you can install emg 81 body and neck pickups into your own guitar????

  • @rammsteinvideos101 Yes dude, you can do the job yourself, you can find how to do it on the web. Also, be sure to have engough space to place a battery in the body.

  • @LTDusersince99 hey what's the battery for???

  • @rammsteinvideos101 I would take a risk saying that : Around 1981, Pickup brands where looking a way to have more output from pickups, EMG had the Idea to put a preamp with the pickups to reach their goals but they need energie, that's what are the battery for. Wikipedia can be a Good way to make you learn things lìke that.

  • ive heard of people doing an 18v mod to the 81 but i wonder what it would sound done to the 85

  • 81/60 is the most basic setup with the 81 u get good tone with crunch and stuff and with the 60 amazing clean sound and good for moody solos the 85 is like a revamped version of the 81 with a more depth in its tone

  • hey ive always been a dimarzio guy myself but i was thinking about trying emgs out shuld i start out with 85/81?

  • you guys seriously have to try the emg85 in the bridge.

most people with an emg85 use it in the neck but i really like it in the bridge

  • \m/ 81/85 \m/

  • When one says "85/81" that means an 85 in the bridge and an 81 in the neck, right?

  • yeah dude, instead of the classic 81/85 the vid is to compare both sounds

  • Just curious. Thanks for the fast answer. I'm trying to get my pickups to sound a certain way and I found that an artist that gets that sort of sound plays an Ibanez with an EMG 85/81's, and I wasn't sure if that was an 85 in the neck or in the bridge. Haha thanks!

  • so a 85 / 60 combo should be alright.. with the 85 ofc in bridge

  • I guess, I did not have the chance to try that combo since I don't have a guitar that has a EMG 60 on it. I tried one in a guitar shop, it sounded good but how different is it from the 85 I can't really tell.

  • i mean, the 85 is as good or better as a 81 in bridge?

  • the 85 sound more brighter, has more clarity also punchier bass. But because of that you lose the particular and unique "chunk" that 81 produce when palm muting. And for me. That's the reason why I still have my 81 in the bridge. So you have to try and choose what you prefer. It's just impossible to say this one is better, now you have to know what kind of tone you are searching for. And get the pickups that suite you. So, try and compare tone before buy. Hope it helped you

  • well they are used, but i'll have a go.

i dont think i'll be displeased

  • Allright, there's a lot of demo on you tube so you know what to expect from EMG :P, Thei're excellent pickups

  • the 85 works fine with pretty much evrything emg have im using the 85b/60n combo and it works fine

  • i have the same amplifier.

    nice

    5stars

  • what tuning? 81 good on c tuning..

  • pretty good ear haha it's standard E :P

  • was that a question? yea they sound good on pretty much any tuning

  • Vig

  • good job, but way too subjective, u should do it in better order and dont stress it on what ur fav is, k 5 stars either

  • Well tried not to be subjective hehe, But My vid is made to let the people judge by themselves

  • Dude, you've got like six thumbs down. But i agree with you. the 81 - 85 both sound awful. way to thin and can't be played clean.

Btw it's not fare to compare pickups in bridge vs neck

  • emg 81 and 85 can do neck and bridge the 85 is alot clearer sounding than the 81 in clean and distorted

  • @joeydahlia

Ok then, what active pickups are better than the EMG 81's and 85's?

  • um I thru both of them into the dumpster..and went passive..Evo's still undefeated...

  • wat about 85 in the neck with a 60 or 60a in the bridge? Thoughts pl0x!

  • @maitallica Honestly it is a horrible idea, it just sounds like harry balls. The only way I will use EMG pickups is with an 85 in the bridge 60A in the neck and the 18V mod to the set. That set it is the sex, warm, fat sex that makes you feel fuzzy inside... Great for heavy and it has a pretty nice clean sound also.

  • wait i dont get it with emg's u dont need to solder or anything? just swtich them and disconnect them without solderding?? and u really changed pups 4 times lol u have alot of free time on ur hands :P jks :P. lol great playing but i prefer the original 81/85 setting because it sounds more like it should. the 85 in the neck has the fatass leads for soloing but the 81 in the bridge has the sexy fast smooth rythyms and lead that can both cut through a song. both are very sexy though

  • EMGs have a quick connect plug on the pickup itself so you can pop them out really easily. makes it easy to put the wiring in first, then drop the pickups in

  • i collect emg's and because of the quick disconnect i just blu tac the pickup to the guitar body so i can easily change them around rofl.

  • i like how the 85 sounds in the bridge, im gonna swap mine out tonite, thank god for quick connecter clips eh

  • i don't really like the emg 85 i prefer the emg 89

  • the 85 IS the 89, but the 89 can be coil split......

  • maybe thats why he prefers it? lol

  • LOL! probably, haha.

  • i never saw the point in coil splitting humbuckers i would never use it

  • it really depends on the Humbucker, some sound like crap. And some sound like really good single coil imitations. It's alright, but I wouldn't buy a guitar based on that feature. Doesn't really matter to me honestly. Although all my guitars have it haha O.o

  • because what if you want a single coil sound?

  • well thats what im saying i would never need a single coil sound i have guitars with single coils already theres not really any point

  • well what if, during a song you suddenly want to change from a heavy duty humbucker sound to a biting single coil in a flash? Why unplug, go backstage, grab another guitar, come back, and plug back in when you could just flick a switch?

  • yea good point

  • it's just more different tones you can get from the same guitar, that's it

  • ENTER SANDMAN 3:40 :)

  • I personally like the orignal 81/85 setup. But maybe that is just me... I like the way to duplicate playing favorite bands, and then messing around with the same sound to record my own riffs. I can see where swapping would be a plus... but I think this all comes down to personal preferrence. No need to get excited over any of it... but great demo in the vid nonetheless.

  • i just swapped them last night and there is definitely a huge difference in the tone. Personally, i am digging the 85 in the bridge. Harmonics are great at all places on the neck and the lack of a ton of highs helps it a lot in the clean settings. The only problem is that is a bit bassier, but that can be fixed by adjusting your EQ.

In all, you get a warmer/bigger tone out of the switch. Try it, and if you dont like it, you can easily swap back.

  • hey lads calm down, i come here to see other peoples opinions of the pickups, no need to get all pissed off

  • sounds same to me

  • Yeah I'd say the EMG 81 is just better. It is more subtle, and music IS subtle. If you want to hear feeling you don't do straight forward stuff.

Having high bass and treble (85) is good when you play on your own, because you'll be heard. But when you're set up in a band, you just need the EMG 81.

Myself I love the EMG 60 in neck position.

  • i wanna put either the 81 or 85 in the bridge of my hello kitty squire. theres is no neck p/u. can anyone help me decide which one i should put in it. everyone that had the 81 has said the 85 is better but idk.

  • It's hard to tel witch one is better, For me , I switched Back to 81/85 just after the clip I made, Even if 81 don't the same amount of treble and bass, The way palm mutes react with the amp is so different, I like more the Chunk from the 81

  • The difference between EMG 81 and EMG 85 is, that the '81 has more power and more mids, whereas the '85 sounds like a Gibson PAF (very open sound).

  • I wouldnt say that sir, because i have guitars with both, and 85 is a little more louder, as for mids there are plenty. 81 was meant for tight metal sound, very stiff, which is also fun, but i like the ballsy riffing tone you get from the 85. not PAF sounding at all. dont give the people that are reading your comment the wrong impression about it.

  • thats just me i personally think the 85 sounds a little Paf...but it all comes down to the type of metal and wood you have in your guitar... i have two guitars with emgs one basswood and edge trem... and the 85 in there sounds much how you describe but the one in my Les paul sounds way more PAF...haha like i said its all down to personal preference

  • You clearly dont know that with EMGs, especially the 81 wood selection doesn't matter, with passives it does, you can put EMGs in a 200 dollar piece of shit guitar and its gonna sound exactly like the ones going for 10 times its worth, with the right amps.

i know this for a fact and many other people do also. So please don't come to me with your halfassed attempt to justify the stupidity in your previous comment before you do your research.

  • THat's crap. I have a Fender with SA's, a Charvel with 85/60's, and an Ibanez with 707/707-TW's.

All different guitars, each has EMG's, and each one sounds different. If it was true, no one would spend big bucks on overpriced guitars. YOu could get the cheapest Piece Of Shit to sound like the mostest metal master if it were.

This argument has been proven go fucking search it on forums and shit asswipe.

  • that didnt prove anything.. it just says that he has 707, 85s, 60s, and SAs which of course they sound different because they're different models. hes not comparing different woods or anything to help your argument.

another interesting thing someone brings up on that forum thing i googled, EMGs are active, which means they are powered by a 9v battery, Because of this, they cancel out any tonal differences that your guitar may or may not have. This is true.

  • my friend's got two almost identical guitars with the differences being one has an alder body, and one a basswood body. They have EMG 81s in the bridge position, and they both have their own sound created by the timber the body is built with. It may not be hugely noticeable to most, but I can most definitely notice the difference.

  • plus dmometalguitar mentions in his videos that wood...bridge metal/type... are a huge Factor when putting Emgs in...

  • stop taking other people's arguments and use some opinions and thoughts of your own.

"they sound like PAFs", is retarded and false.

  • if you were to put EMGS in a fucking epiphone and a gibson...true there would be no difference but im talking about putting emgs into a Les paul and one in a fender..they would fucking sound different! even the type of bridge compensates for what sound you get... watch "dmometalguitar's" videos ....

  • if both pick ups are in the bridge, how can you play them at the same time? ^o)

  • .... Video montage bro! how about that? are you smart enough or smart like Bush?

    haha

  • Yup I confirm what I said, 85 as higher output, I can distort my clean channel with it, something I can't do with the 81. I also felt that the global sound of the 81 on the neck looked more like the mellow sound we can ear on jazz styled guitar.

  • hmmm, didn't you swap the comments ? it's strange to read that the 85 has a higher output level than the 81 ... it's also strange to read that the 81 is jazz-sounding , the Zakk Wylde or Kerry King EMG kit is not really known for its jazz tones ?!? but could you go further in explanations ?

  • Better Late than never :P

I confirm you that 85 as Higher output, you can also check EMG official site, I just felt that on clean channel taht EMG 81 was sounding closer to a smooth jazz sound than the 85 that is alnico sounding.

  • Just went to your profile to check more videos - my name is Simon as well. haha

  • What guitar is that? I've got the MH-250nt, they're amazing guitars aren't they!

  • It's a LTD MH-300 bought new in 99, It cam with EMG-HZ H2 series they we're good but I needed Active EMGs , there's a big difference

  • hey man thanks for the vid. ive been lookin for one lol.

  • Well, you found me! I'm Like Neo in the MAtrix man, i'm THE ONE haha just kidding, I think Dimebagg, Slash, Friedman, Rusty cooley are more the ones than me

  • I know, I was searching for a video like this, could'nt find one, so I made one of my own

  • ya i agree..you the first :)

  • great video! thanks for posting this :)
