@scorand The program is paid by taxpayers, not recipients. It's a drug addiction as gov money is the drug as they aren't willing to get off of it. Churches & charities rely on donations; so they have to minimize costs. Gov program rely on tax payer dollars, so they rely on rhetoric, not donations and can max up costs. Compassion? Compassion is enabling ppl to become self-sufficient, not turning them into dependents(i.e. drug addicts) of gov money which is what welfare & gov programs do.

Well... the list of things NOT to cut out is MUCH shorter than what to cut. Obviously simply saying "BYE BYE SOCIAL SECURITY!" and cutting everyone off from their benefits without much warning is dangerous no matter how you cut it. The Department of Education, the IRS, Medicare, Medicaid, and yes, Social Security, all are long term goals, but that I must stress heavily. We start by making publicly acceptable cuts, defense, repealing Obamacare etc. THEN we move towards larger goals.

The DoE wasn't instituted until the Carter presidency. We had public schools prior to that, he simply furthered the objective of federalizing the system. And since the US's international test scores have not fallen or improved since its creation, it seems we're wasting a boatload. I'm not totally against public education, it should just be a state issue. And yes, competitive private schools DO offer a better education. Part 2: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security... ALL of these are unsustainable at the rate we put money into them, they're inevitably bound for bankruptcy. And yes, cutting them is a damn near impossible task even in this hyper polarized political climate. Like I said, long term goals. Very much so. As for OCare, how the hell does it CUT the deficit? I can't see that as plausible. As for defense, the Afghanistan War loses popularity every day. It's only a matter of time before we wake up.

You can also have a lot better prevention if everybody was insured. The rest of it you would have to consult the non-partisan CBO report. I might have missed something, but I know the status quo isn't sustainable either. I hope you're right about defense because I hear drumming from the right to attack Iran.

Teh costs of health care come from health ins not being held in check as ppl aren't able to get their health ins across state lines and by tort costs. Privatizing means that costs are brought to a min and quality via max competition improves constantly. I have respect for Glenn Beck in the sense that I agree with what he says until he starts to elevate himself to the likes of Jesus, Ghandi, and Martin Luther King Jr.
It is then I lose all respect for him, because all those great men exhibited something Beck lost along the way, humility. Those men let others elevate them into the status of greatness.

@theconservativelib (Part 2) This is where my own personal philosophy comes from, State's Rights. By allowing regulations, from building codes and education, to economic restrictions and police work, to be evaluated at the State level, each local government can make its own decisions without the imposing might of the national monstrosity we call the US Federal Government. And think about it, it's a hell of a lot easier to get elected as governor or to the state house, than to the presidency etc.

How does the tea party plan on imposing that philosophy on the political landscape today? I for one would be fine with minimizing the feds because as it turns out my state contributes more and receives less assistance. Alot of conservative states can't say that. They take more than what they give out then wanna hang the "commies" that gave it to them.

(2) Politicians like Rand and Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan and Jim Demint are pushing through the bias to show the nation the cogency of their argument. I don't agree with ANY of these people on EVERY issue, just most. Notable exceptions include DeMint's pro-war drum beating, Rand's anti-gay rhetoric and Ron's questioning of evolution. But what these people stand for is more important than small technicalities, a New Right. One which puts principle first, re-election second.

The best thing to do is to push harder, vote the bums out, and slowly integrate these ideas into the public mind. Introduce them slowly and gradually. Well... the list of things NOT to cut out is MUCH shorter than what to cut. Obviously simply saying "BYE BYE SOCIAL SECURITY!" and cutting everyone off from their benefits without much warning is dangerous no matter how you cut it. The Department of Education, the IRS, Medicare, Medicaid, and yes, Social Security, all are long term goals, but that I must stress heavily. We start by making publicly acceptable cuts, defense, repealing Obamacare etc. THEN we move towards larger goals.

Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are all things old people need / want so any politician that mentions cutting it is going to get voted out. I'm paying into SS so they better cut it fast or give me my money back. CBO says Obamacare cuts the deficit but the tea party wants health care the way it was creating huge expenses and letting Americans die. And defense? Good luck.

The DoE wasn't instituted until the Carter presidency. We had public schools prior to that, he simply furthered the objective of federalizing the system. And since the US's international test scores have not fallen or improved since its creation, it seems we're wasting a boatload. I'm not totally against public education, it should just be a state issue. And yes, competitive private schools DO offer a better education. If they don't, they go out of business, with the gov't monopoly and all. cont

Part 2: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security... ALL of these are unsustainable at the rate we put money into them, they're inevitably bound for bankruptcy. And yes, cutting them is a damn near impossible task even in this hyper polarized political climate. Like I said, long term goals. Very much so. As for OCare, how the hell does it CUT the deficit? I can't see that as plausible. As for defense, the Afghanistan War loses popularity every day. It's only a matter of time before we wake up.

@MrUnicorn1995 For Ocare I know the main idea of cutting it is to get everybody insured, that way we don't have people going to the ER for a sniffle. You can also have a lot better prevention if everybody was insured. The rest of it you would have to consult the non-partisan CBO report. I might have missed something, but I know the status quo isn't sustainable either. I hope you're right about defense because I hear drumming from the right to attack Iran.

And on that note, why should we be threatening Iran? Their own people are as upset with their leaders as we are! Give them time, they're on the verge of revolution! Anyway, as far as OCare, I'm concerned about the economic repercussions of all these new regs mostly.

I was just referring to the fact that we deregulated the shit out of Wall St. starting with Clinton, which led them to take advantage of stupid poor people who took out loans they shouldn't have. The tea party's solution to that? Deregulate them more in the name of "freedom." Now what they're doing is loaning the govt. our own money through bond purchases, but you want to give them more freedom. Jesus.

But what it actually means, in a non-rhetorical sense, is a government which is run as the Constitution, the document INTENDED to lay out the processes of the federal government, says. And according to the 10th amendment to the Constitution, part of the Bill of Rights, any duty not specifically enumerated to the Fed by the Constitution falls to the States.(Part 1)
