Whatever happened to Kimmie Meissner? I haven't seen her quite recently with Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nagasu taking the ice in full storm. How is she? Dang, I miss Kimmie!
She truly lost something. She is ok artisticly, but not too great. What they call maturity I'd call: losing that energy and personality what was radiating from her when she was a teenager newcomer.
She is still ok, but I dont feel anything special about her. And I simply cant belive she cant strech her spirals at least a bit more. Or make them more solid around the edge. I wish her good luck, and I wish she could find that missing piece what completed her skating earlier...
The -3 Makes sense. First, she has a Lip (A Flip from an outside edge). Second, she has a toe axel (pre-rotating the toe loop as the pick goes in, making it somewhat like an axel jump). Those are two obvious deductions and since it was her first combination, even more obvious.
I'm surprise they didn't ding her for underrotation, but the video quality isn't really good enough for me to state confidently that it was.
Such a beautiful, brave and determined young lady. I wish her much luck in the upcoming season, and I hope to see her at the Olys! It'll be tough, but I'm not ready to count her out yet.
The 2008 Worlds must have been the worst competition for the U.S Team. They only took home one medal, and it was the bronze from Johnny Weir. They definitely were on the brink from being completely wiped out. I hope they do well at the 2010 Olympics.
no offence to kimmie... i wuld give any thing to be as good as her. but something really irritates me. I think its her really bad artistic side. And im not to fussed on her jumps and spins. She has great height on her spins it think its just her positions. Otherwise a real role model.
shes doing well...i think shes just fighting herself right now....going through this mental phase.. but i think now that shes workingwith richard shell get herself straight again. shes a fighter.
So do people find this sort of program a natural reaction to the new scoring system? The technical elements looked packed in and ultimately rushed through; the sense of artistry was pushed to the background, and artistic elements utimately looked generic and not unique to the music being played. However, in the context of a bad season, a mighty fine effort for a skater who had to battle a negative mind-set, I imagine!
this is a poor choice for her. shizuka skated to this peace with much more artistry. this was fairly generic in my opinion, the arm movements could have gone to any number of songs.
i actually think the new scoring is making the programs stronger than ever. the only thing i don't like is the new foot work sequences. too many stops and bending over and arm flailing.
There isn't. I personally don't mind that - there are a slew of skaters in medal contention, and I actually find that to be great for the sport.
By "face," I mean the U.S. media who are on a constant search for someone along the lines of Michelle and Sasha to be the American icon. Numerous skating article in the papers (if there are any, to begin with) seem to be either criticizing CoP or criticizing the "failure" of the U.S. ladies(e.g.,Phil Hersh) and the constant neg. press isn't helping.
Like any other field nowadays, you have to bring up something special to be above any body else. To me Kimmie has been getting points with her jumps, not with her artistry. Now Mao and Yu Na are bringing both into the figure skating, it'll be tough to beat.
Meissner has not being doing the jumps as well, it's very similar to Sarah Hughes, both were always close to being short on their landings and when they weren't on the jumps really suffered for height. Kimmie is a lovely and elegant skater, she needs much better music choice though, this piece is tired and used recently by Shizuka Arakawa. She also has great axel technique and should add that triple axel to her program.
By dumps, I was referring to triple538's statement of skating supposedly being dominated by pre-pubescent kids, not the financial aspect.
And I still stand by my statement. Numerous skating articles on newspapers (if there is any at all) in the U.S. consist of criticizing CoP, or the complaint of a lack of a "face" for the sport, which I find absolutely idiotic.
If Kimmie had Carolina's speed I think it'd be a whole different ballgame, it would get her that little bit of height she needs to finish that lutz and the triple triple's properly. Plus, Kimmie has good axel technique and did land a 'Yukari Nakano' style triple axel at Nationals in 05 I think. She should bring that back.
She's good, but definitely not on the level as some other skaters. She's wonderful, but I really think she gets too much hype. Then again, I could never skate that well, so I have no idea how much work really goes into it. She probably does deserve so much coverage for her hard work. I just find her skating sort of boring compared to others. Just watch an Asada program and you;ll see what I mean.
I love Kimmie, but why are people skipping the true issue here? Puberty is throwing off the easy security with the jumps that she had back in 2006. I find it truly sad that figure skating has changed from being a sport for grown, mature women to a sport where pre-pubescent children are more likely to be able to do the physically punishing jumps that ultimately win.
I completely disagree. Yukari Nakano, Kostner, Meier are doing quite well. And even before the COP there were a fair number of "teen upstarts" in the sport who grew into their own person. Mao and Yu-Na are growing up to be beautiful, artistic ladies and are turning 18 this year. The American gals moving up to senior are young, but talented. It's only the American media and their silly "search for the big star" that has skating in the dumps. Asia and Europe is quite happy with skating right now.
Shizuka Arakawa and Irina Slutskaya were two of the best jumpers ever, particularly in terms of triple triples, and they had much more athletic physiques compared to these girls that are so spindly. Yuna and Mao seem to be the exception where they are lithe, lyrical and can tackle the jumps, and Carolina Kostner is just a speed demon colt, also lyrical. Recall Midori Ito landed her triple axel well into her late 20's. Maria Butyrskaya, Canada's Jennifer Robinson, got better with age.
well, this just wasn't the right program for her anyway. "Turandot" has already been used several times, and the Olympics was won with it. This version seems very rushed, manufactured, and performed as if she's just doing everything to gain points.
yes, i agree, this music is NOT good for her. i don't think she's boring to watch. it seems like almost all skaters these days do everything to gain points. i don't think she does, but that's just my opinion. don't worry about it too much.
yeah, this scoring system needs some major touch ups. It was created in order to stop bias judging but from all I hear about it, it's now even EASIER to judge unfairly... this competition proved it! Now that people can only think about points, judges can easily bury people with "edge quality," and "spirals," and every other little thing they can think of. But, whatever. I wish Kimmie the best of luck with her skating nonetheless.
R U KIDDING?!?!?!?! her spiral is awesome!!! besides u have 2 realize it was on her right foot and that in general is harder for skaters to do!!!! cuz shes a leftie...
No matter what happened to her after Torino 2006, She's will always be a world champion.
