The US was not ready to fight in the beginning of the conflict. We only had a military of a little over 300,000 men. It took us several years just to produce the munitions and to train the men necessary for the war.

The US was coming out of a isolationist period, in addition to a depression, and were in little condition to wage a world war in 1939.

i would say great britain is made up of 4 countries: england, scotland, wales and ireland. the difference between belfast and dublin (the north and the south) should not be made into a country issue.

Well you are wrong. The British Isles includes Ireland, but Ireland is not part of Great Britain. There is a difference. Northern Ireland isn't even part of Great Britain - it is part of the UK.
