  • This is really dull knife - after you sharpen knife properly - try with bigger paper (A4) or newspaper - more realistic test

  • @knowyourknife realistic? lol, the paper isnt imaginary..I kno what your saying, but 99.9% of people would be happy with an edge that cna cleanly slice through printer paper, anything that slices through newsprint is for a knife nut...but if you want "real" watch ym videos of me whittleing human hair, that puts newspaper cutting to shame

  • @cutlerylover This is really nice. I'm sure that you are knife sharpening expert and you can do all kinds of miracles with your knife but this knife is dull. Sorry.

  • Try with bigger paper (A4) or newspaper - more realistic test

  • This may be a very stupid question but, if you can dull a knife with paper, why can't you sharpen knifes with paper?

  • if I want to test the sharpness of my knife, I always carve wood, is that a good test?

  • Just got the #8 Stainless Steel and a #10 Carbon Steel versions, and I have to say that the #10 is pretty nice size, the #8 tends to be somewhat small IMO.

  • im having the same with the same signs

  • aside from the differences in resistance to rust.....which blade metal is stronger...carbon steel or stainless steel ?

  • carbon usually

  • I sharpened my nr 8 stainless on a handstone and polished it on a strop with a bit of green compound. Cuts like a laser. When I travel I just take the strop, it is sufficient to touch it up, even after tough cutting tasks. Opinel is a great knife for travelling, light, and cheap enough to replace when lost.

  • I bought a oak handled no.8 in stainless because i work in damp places and with acid how would you recomend sharpening this type of kinfe ??? :D

  • what do you think , carbon or steel ?

  • Cool vid, I just ordered an opinel #8 in carbon steel

  • I was watching a knife reviewing and the guy said that cutting paper is the quickest way to dull a knife...is that true?? Because I found it hard to believe

  • well the quickest way to dull a knife is to cut concreate, lol, but jokign aside yes paper will dull a knife VERY quickly...

  • Why is that..I dont get it, its paper how would paper dull a knife quickly? Btw I bought my first good knife which is a ontario rat 1, getting it tuesday...Cant wait!!

  • remember paper is just a really thin piece of wood, lol...

  • never thought of it that way

  • My favorite reply by far!...I use to wonder why paper would dull knives until someone flicked me on the head and told me, "Paper is from wood, stupid"

Keep up with the great videos!...I appreciate that you treat everyone fairly regardless of their experience.

  • this good for all cut paper hood fruit meal rope etc in france it's a current edc knive resistant and when you lose one you buy a new in the supermarket or a tabacco shop its not expansive price 8 euros or more because differently blade length!!! in carbone or stainless steel!!

  • wow i just noticed that u never used one period in ur message and its really stupid and annoying and i think u need to learn to type correctly omfg i gotta go bye.

  • my grandpa past his to me :() mines the handle is a little darker and the blade looks 30 years old.

  • I own a nr.6 and nr.8 opinels. Indeed for that price you get alot of knife. Usually the only thing from France that's good is the food, but theese knives are quite nice indeed.

  • got one today very glad the #6 is a good poket knife

  • cool

  • carbon or stainless steel?

  • carbon man, i dont even no where you can get the stainless

  • can you do a vid on sharpening the opinel, because it looks like the blade is jusst a single bevel, thanks!

  • i need it too

  • Do you use any other cutting tests? I feel that while your test clearly demonstrates your knife is sharp, the paper test has major limits (as does, for example, shaving hair on forearms). To me the truth about the whole issue is that a knife needs to be sharpened to a specific task, e.g. rope cutting, food prep, wood carving, box opening or what-have-you. Each of those different types of knives needs to be sharpened differently. Good job, keep posting videos :)

  • I agree I do different testss for different knives depending on what I need it for for example your right a straight razor will need to be farbeyond paper slicing, but a machete although effective razor sharp doesnt have to be as sharp because its for shopping...I also slice newsprint shave hair of my arms, I tried to "tree top" hair, which is cuttign hair off your body without touchign the skin, VERY HARD...

  • @cutlerylover all of my knives can do that...want some pointers?

  • what do u sharpen ur knifes with??

  • Most of my knives are sharpened with my spyderco sharpmaker, but I do also use an edgepro apex sharpening system, I have videos on how to use both systems...

  • 5/5

    very informative as usual!

  • Thanks!

  • nice video.

  • Thank you!

  • thanks u

  • no problem...

  • wut do u do for a living that u have so many knives? or do u just like collecting them?

  • I LOVE collecting them, I work with mail for a living, but I do not get paid well at all, I still live at home too, which gives me the finacial freedom of spending my extar money on knives, but what you see in ym videos for the most part has been purchased over time...I don't spend my money on much else besides my hobbies...But I am not even close to rich if thats what people think, lol...

  • thanks for making the video i might get one

  • do u ever do any thing with multtools like lethermen gerber stuf like that

  • Yes, I have a video on multitools, I carry and use a leatherman wave as well as a victorinox swiss card...

  • ya i carry a gerber disel everyday everywere i love it its comes in handy u should pick one up i bet youll start carrying it u can get them at wal-mart 4 like 40 bucks i think

  • hello jeff very nice for a knife so cheap.

could you please make a vid on how you take care of your knives the different steels cleaning and evryting thanks and again love your vids

  • Well I might make a vid in the future...But for now if you send me a message I will give you some general details on what I do for maintnance...

  • hey can you do a paper cut test on your wave thx

  • Yeah, but its no contest, lol, both the plain edge and serrated blades on the wave are scary sharp...Ill add it to the requsted video list, you will see it soon...

  • did it come like that?

  • Yes, it came amazingly sharp!

  • if i ever get lost i would preferred stainless coz of its str and i find it sharp enough for me =P

  • Are the locks on these strong and reliable?

  • Simply put, yes, very much so...

  • how wud u get the bottom of tha knife like the middle n tip?wud u resharpen or jus focus on the place where its not?

  • I would focus on the one dull spot a bit, then go back with a finer stone and go over the whole edge again to even it out...

  • i have an opinel but i have one in carbon i suggest picking one up

  • Yeah, I have to get a carbon steel one asap...
