Shakir is a fucking moron. The Fed was created by a president looking to control our economy from the oval office. The presidency was created in our Constitution of America. We've had dozen's of presidents that were horrible. The Fed is the problem and the private company that controls the Fed are there to make money off of the people. The Fed was not supposed to control the economy. Now, we can't seem to get rid of it. You know something is fishy when both GOP and Dems agree on the Fed.
She is a poor moderator. I think that neither of them made a convincing case for their particular points of view. I think the Fed should be abolished, but a luddite prescription like returning to the gold standard is grossly impractical. It would stifle liquidity and wouldn't work in a complex, modern economy. The real solution is to put currency issue where it properly belongs; with the federal government. Monetary policy would thus be subject to law and wouldn't create immediate public debt.
People that want to end the FED need to know that ALL banks can create money 'out of thin air'. It is not the fed that creates the major part of all money, it is the banks.
There are some good movies on youtube on how this works. Check out 'Debt as money', 'Fractional Banking and the Federal Reserve System Explained' and 'banking' 1 - 18.
@AngeCord the fed is at the top of the fractional reserve system thats the problem. The fact they are a private company compounds that problem. The fed should be run by elected officals if nothing else.
@AngeCord Great point, Yes, exactly so. End the Fed AND (!) the FRAUDULENT RESERVE LENDING SYSTEM. Get the fraud and the fraudsters out of the system--the giant global Ponzi scheme.

If you are a leftest for instance ...are u capable of understanding that if Ron Isn't listened too...all the social systems will collapse?
This guy debating Ron Paul on this topic is very obviously way in over his head. He took a whippin from the master. Better luck next time, young grasshopper. The Center for American Progress should show progress by Abolishing The FED!!!
Exactly. I'll bet he did a lot of practice with his analogy at 3:13 about abolishing the presidency and thought he was going to score a soundbite on Ron. Totally useless! Obviously you don't abolish the presidency, as the office is constitutional. Ron's position is that the Fed is unconstitutional, and that guy just missed the point.
I just don't understand how people listen to Ron Paul and think he should not be our President. Ron Paul actually lost the other politicians during the debate in 08. You could actually see the stupid look on thiere faces as he spoke the blatent truth. We HAVE to get this guy nominated in 2012. Everyone that likes him needs to start getting his name and ideas out there! Ron Paul even said himself its hard to compete with the funds Obama had last year. which is sad but what can we do.
its funny how the usa thinks the cash in their pocket will save them from whats ahead. however if the fed wants to make the current usa 1 dollar into 1 cent. there is no say. what is the best usa butt cleaner? a scrap of ragpaper called money.
End the Fed. I agree with Ron on this one one hundred percent. I have studied the start of the fed and know they are the cause of the instability this nation has had since the thirties.
I dont mind Romney but hes too much like john kerry. Kinda grinds my gears....He's a rich politician, a medicore one term governer, who has flip flopped on his issues in order to ensure political success. Ron Paul 2012

Compared to the guy that was attempting to debate Ron Paul, she's a freaking genius. That guy thought that had the Federal Reserve been around before the Great Depression, they would have prevented it. Well, the Fed was created over a decade before the Great Depression and was a major factor in creating it! How in the world was this guy put on TV to debate a subject which he knew next to nothing about?
What I really hate about the news is that they bring these guys on to talk about the big issues and then they spend the whole time trying to shut them up. For Pete's sake, let them talk!
Fellow Christians, There is a "hate crimes bill" S.909 that was devised by the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith in order to criminalize Christianity. Any Good Christian who publicly stands up for traditional marriage or protests the millions of babies murdered by abortion will be thrown in jail like in Canada. Check out truthtellers and watch Rev. Ted Pike's videos explaining the danger and then call your Senators toll free at 877-851-6437 and tell them NO on S.909. Save Our Constitution
american public schools suck! I learned more in the few years after school than i did in all 12 of my years in school. (someone taught me how to learn.) So yes...your right. Either way ,the words (needs to go back to school) simply means that this dumb ass needs to go back and study a subject and know it before speaking on it. hagd!
problem. He cant run as a third party, even as famous as paul is he wont get the publicity to win his personal election.
Winning for the republican party would reform the republican party and solve a big american political problem.
But those dickheads that occupy the (R) wing right now wont let him. They dont even know what africa is. So they have no right to judge others if they suffer from that kind of ignorance.
Not only does the (R) wing put serious people offside. Theyre risking the prosperity of their own country by being unable to make decisions. All those idiots like palin, mccain probably think that big macs and ben & jerrys rain from the heavens and are brought to you by god.
Oh wait, the (R) wing doesnt even have a selected candidate yet.
I surely hope the (R) wing wont be upgraded up to 2012.
Although I wouldnt feel bad if obama got re-elected. Preferably ron paul,
atleast obama doesnt make things worse although is attempts up to now are abstemious.
I hope he will do something in his promised plans for change. Like atleast close gitmo at the end of his presidency. He promised many things, and i know any change is hard to gain in the corruption we live.
But do atleast something that you promised during the election.
They both make a good case. I'd have to say Paul has it right. You can't say the system is good and it's just the choices people make that makes it bad. Obviously having mythical control over the monetary system is bad. If it allows these people to screw things up, the system is wrong. Abolish it or at the very least nationalize the Fed. Give it back to the treasury. Give it back to the people.
I agree with you, but there is another step, accounting. Through secrecy and slight of hand, the military black budget, for example, gets funded. Even the Congress does not know how much and where exactly this money goes. The money can be as good as gold, but it has to be accounted for and therefore properly voted upon/approved by Congress, representatives of the people.
The reality of Ron Paul is that he doesn't care for the middle class. He wants to deregulate the markets and have more of a free for all market system. The problem with that is it will come down to the have and have-nots. Result being more monopolys and poverty. Pauls heart is in the right place but he is no expert on money or the economy.
hahahahahahaha. He's been a US congressman for 20 years and saw this recession coming long ago... as have a lot of economists that the mainstream media have ignored.
Our economy is based entirely on psychology now, it's literally all bubbles now, look at the US economic history, the recessions and booms. It's unstable. Obama's bill is only creating another huge bubble - with inflation.
And Shakir equates the fed with the presidency a constitutional office with an un-constitutional one. FAIL
702decatur, I challenge you to do two things. First, define the middle class and second define monopoly. As it stands, your comment is irrational and misguided.
Challenge me lol.. If you want to participate in this conversation you need to offer something I am not doing your homework. Its not my fault you cant follow the conversation.
"irrational and misguided" Why don't your define this statement and quote which of my words fit in this statement.
You asked for it. The reality is that the government as it stands does not care about that middle class. ( I will define the middle class as households with annual incomes between 50k and 500k; the range of income that carries the largest tax burden) It seems as though big government, the fed., war, and recent legislation is "the work of a comparatively few individuals using the present standing government as their tool." ( Thoreau in "civil disobedience") Where big business benefits from
fluctuating interest rates, federally funded bailouts, and natural resource infrastructure reconstruction (halliburton in Iraq. And where the financial burden is primarily carried by those that work the hardest in this country. The problem is that regulating industry has backfired. While some regulations regarding the working conditions of the working class are beneficial, be mindful that all legislation passed by congress is pushed through by lobbying groups. In this system, whoever has the
most money, can get the most done. Furthermore, a monopoly occurs when an "enterprise has sufficient control over a particular product or service to determine significantly the terms on which other individuals shall have access to it" ( Milton Friedman (2002). "VIII: Monopoly and the Social Responsibility of Business and Labor" (in English) (paperback). Capitalism and Freedom (40th anniversary edition ed.). The University of Chicago Press. pp. 208. ISBN 0-226-26421-1.) By this definition it
is obvious that the federal reserve is just that. I did not intend to insult 702decatur with the terms "irrational and misguided," I only wished to illicit a response. Please accept my apology, I'm sorry I offended you. Assuming that you are an intelligent free thinking individual I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.
Why wasn't he elected? It's either we're a dumb country or an uninformed one. I really hope it's the latter. His ideas on foreign policy (diminish our ego as world police) and economic policy (eliminate Fed, and strengthen value of our money) creates the perfect American dream. I guess the emotions derived from "war on terror," credit crisis (by the way was created by the fed) and historical candidates, that we missed the true logic of real government.
Our mainstream media is complete spin and propaganda. The idea that our economic system is bad is a dangerous one to a lot of very powerful people. Banks are in bed with gov't who are in bed with the multinationals who are in bed with the media and the congress and senate and candidates.
Did anyone notice that Shakir didn't debate the fact that the FED is unconstitutional? He avoided that first point made by Dr. Paul and tried to defend the Federal Reserve on the basis of stability it creates. Laughable.
seen a video on the US dollar value that dated back to like the early 1700's. it showed that every time they went off the gold standard for the american rev., civil war, etc. inflation crept in but prices returned back to normal when they scrapped the paper. a jug of milk cost the same in 1850 as it did in 1700. thats what i call price stability. once the fed was created inflation became a fact of life. shakir seems to think that this system can go on in perpetituity.
it is illegal via the constitution, so how can it be allowed to continue? if it didnt exsist it wouldnt matter who ran it, it wouldnt exsist! LESS GOVRNMENT
The guy debating Ron Paul looked shocked at the end.
He's presented as an expert, and it looked like he actually thought the FED was created AFTER the Great Depression....I thought so too until I head Ron Paul correct him....it makes me wonder how many myths we've been taught and who started these myths?
WOW!!! The arguements of Faiz Shakir seemed to make sense at the time, but with our burst bubble economy of today, it seems that Ron Paul was DEAD ON!!!
So the same Republican taking heads like Newt Gingrich, Dick Armey, Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and their corporate donors are sponsoring Ron Paul Tea Bagging events on April 15 ?
For one it controls the FDIC, which ensures the safety of your money in the bank, without we wouldn't just be have investment banking failures. We would all be running to the bank to pull our money and the banks would be folding. The Fed is an easy target because few people truly understand it, but in truth its goods far outweigh its negatives. The notion that the market never needs intervention has proved false time and time again. Just look at the 1880s and 1890s, and 1920-30s.
Well bluntly money, is the medium of exchange which is printed and exchanged by the Federal reserve in order to facilitate trade and the benefits produced as a result. I assume you were getting at something else, perhaps you can clarify.
I wish I could set up a laboratory America and make Ron Paul the president just to see what would happen. It would have some great points and some terrible points. To be honest I think the economy and banking system would be a low point, his argument against the Fed here honestly shows his very dated sense of the macroeconomy.
how can you back that statement up "his argument against the Fed shows his very dated sense of macroeconomy" the Fed is evil. Name a good thing that it does
There shouldn't be any loans. You work, you save, you buy what you need with your money. The BIble is clear that borrowing and loaning money. Money should be gold or silver, not worthless paper. The A-holes that run the United States have nearly destroyed it. Abolish the Fed and get back to real money.
Here is the list of the Troll Kingdom which has declared War on Dr. Ron Paul. Their Names:..... 1. RonPaulHatesBlacks-King Troll 2. balddove-Queen Troll 3. Vote3rdParty-Prince Troll 4. arrdvarks- Jester Troll 5. atripa645-Peasant Troll 6. peoplesylum-Peasant Troll 7.starcatcher7777-Peasant Troll 8 .pgt1027-Exiled Troll The Troll Kingdom is fighting fiercely for survival!
The problem with Congressmen Paul's argument is if you followed through with it and abolished the Fed. Because the Fed isn't the only part of our government not authorized by the Constitution. Printing paper money, the Air Force, having a large standing Army for over 60 years, etc.
wow, that guy is rediculous....he equates abolishing the presidency to abolishing a unconstitutional private banking cartel system. its no wonder we are dealing with problems today with people like him voting....ron paul is the man
america must have all dual citizens who work for the high place governments to be fired asap these people are not loyal to america and please bring back john f kennedy's EXECUTIVE ORDER 11110 this will bring america out of financial ruins......AMERICA FOR EVER
This guy said that Ron Paul was wrong to want to abolish the FED because they've made some bad decisions... wait a minute. Ron didn't say that at all. He said to get rid of em because they are illegal and immoral. So, as convincing as this guys arguement goes, you need to pay close attention to what they are both saying. He completely put words in Ron's mouth. He was simply going into this debate with that story the whole time no matter what Dr. Paul said. Said part is people will listen to him.
Yes, 1912-1913. That Island should be blown up together with the Reserve back- these eggheads in power and decaying humanity almost 100 years too-long!
I don't blame this Shakir dude. He is just spewing out what the Keynesians told him in school. He has been brainwashed by Keynes. "The fed was required to stabilize the economy." What a joke and a half !! Ever heard of Jekyll Island ? Read up on it Shakir, you might learn something.....
i hate that dr.paul had to drop out, hopfully in 2012 he will be back, or someone like him. By the way is there anyone else like ron paul, and by like i mean a person who truly wants to uphold the constitution?

Fellow Christians, There is a "hate crimes bill" S.909 that was devised by the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith in order to criminalize Christianity. Any Good Christian who publicly stands up for traditional marriage or protests the millions of babies murdered by abortion will be thrown in jail like in Canada. Check out truthtellers and watch Rev. Ted Pike's videos explaining the danger and then call your Senators toll free at 877-851-6437 and tell them NO on S.909. Save Our Constitution

and what did school teach you? i bet 90% of your knowledge came from other sources (this is a critisizm of schools, not of your knowledge)

american public schools suck! I learned more in the few years after school than i did in all 12 of my years in school. (someone taught me how to learn.) So yes...your right. Either way ,the words (needs to go back to school) simply means that this dumb ass needs to go back and study a subject and know it before speaking on it. hagd!

@milkmantx
Good thing that the majority fo youngsters can't vote.
Then again, there are many american adults that are less smart then most youngsters, and grandpas to (mccain/trump/bush)
This is a smart grandpa though:p
Armigo91 9 months ago
Smart is perhaps the wrong word, oh surely, ron is certainly smart.
But he has alot more consent/morale and qualities then any other us candidate.
He really sounds like a guy that puts actions to his promises.
In the corruption of the white house, anything will be hard to change.
Even for ron paul,
No matter his qualitites, if he becomes president. I wouldnt be surprized if our army was still in the mid east after his presidency.
But he has to represent the republican party, and thats the big
Armigo91 9 months ago
Armigo91 9 months ago
Not only does the (R) wing put serious people offside. Theyre risking the prosperity of their own country by being unable to make decisions. All those idiots like palin, mccain probably think that big macs and ben & jerrys rain from the heavens and are brought to you by god.
Oh wait, the (R) wing doesnt even have a selected candidate yet.
I surely hope the (R) wing wont be upgraded up to 2012.
So there only left-over choice will be ron paul.
Armigo91 9 months ago
Ron paul will crush obama,
Although I wouldnt feel bad if obama got re-elected.
Up to now obama has only maintained
Armigo91 9 months ago
economy stability.
he contracted to kill osama and succeeded.
Please obama, cut the social, symphatic, professorial speeches. Your accurate, but innefective.
Just shout your nigger lungs and tell them to do something.
You tried your strategies obama, they dont work, please try something else now.
Do something good, so ron paul can take-over

Ron Paul makes this clown look ridiculous
pretorious700 2 years ago 43
They both make a good case. I'd have to say Paul has it right. You can't say the system is good and it's just the choices people make that makes it bad. Obviously having mythical control over the monetary system is bad. If it allows these people to screw things up, the system is wrong. Abolish it or at the very least nationalize the Fed. Give it back to the treasury. Give it back to the people.
bweazel 2 years ago 7
I agree with you, but there is another step, accounting. Through secrecy and slight of hand, the military black budget, for example, gets funded. Even the Congress does not know how much and where exactly this money goes. The money can be as good as gold, but it has to be accounted for and therefore properly voted upon/approved by Congress, representatives of the people.
billjhyt 2 years ago
the fed is unconstitutional!! abolish it!!!
rayanneflowers 2 years ago 2
The reality of Ron Paul is that he doesn't care for the middle class. He wants to deregulate the markets and have more of a free for all market system. The problem with that is it will come down to the have and have-nots. Result being more monopolys and poverty. Pauls heart is in the right place but he is no expert on money or the economy.
702decatur 2 years ago
hahahahahahaha.
FAIL
unityrover 2 years ago 4
Historical precedent shows that this is false. This class war theory, though quite popular these days, is unsubstantiated.
Although I'm sure a lot of people would like to see what economic evidence you can show to support those claims.
chaseantarctica 2 years ago
702decatur, I challenge you to do two things. First, define the middle class and second define monopoly. As it stands, your comment is irrational and misguided.
slimjim25 2 years ago
Challenge me lol.. If you want to participate in this conversation you need to offer something I am not doing your homework. Its not my fault you cant follow the conversation.
"irrational and misguided" Why don't your define this statement and quote which of my words fit in this statement.
702decatur 2 years ago

The University of Chicago Press. pp. 208. ISBN 0-226-26421-1.) By this definition it
slimjim25 2 years ago
is obvious that the federal reserve is just that.

Bossness21 2 years ago 2
Our mainstream media is complete spin and propaganda. The idea that our economic system is bad is a dangerous one to a lot of very powerful people. Banks are in bed with gov't who are in bed with the multinationals who are in bed with the media and the congress and senate and candidates.

That lady agreed with Dr. Paul on this.
Martinx09 2 years ago 2
Did anyone notice that Shakir didn't debate the fact that the FED is unconstitutional? He avoided that first point made by Dr. Paul and tried to defend the Federal Reserve on the basis of stability it creates. Laughable.
RoninEXS 2 years ago 8
seen a video on the US dollar value that dated back to like the early 1700's. it showed that every time they went off the gold standard for the american rev., civil war, etc. inflation crept in but prices returned back to normal when they scrapped the paper. a jug of milk cost the same in 1850 as it did in 1700. thats what i call price stability. once the fed was created inflation became a fact of life. shakir seems to think that this system can go on in perpetituity.

The guy debating Ron Paul looked shocked at the end.
He's presented as an expert, and it looked like he actually thought the FED was created AFTER the Great Depression....I thought so too until I head Ron Paul correct him....it makes me wonder how many myths we've been taught and who started these myths?
bmyx2002 2 years ago 6
yeah me too in my limited knowledge of markets, i thought that central economic planning was actually a product of bretton woods.

VoodooPolitics101 2 years ago
For one it controls the FDIC, which ensures the safety of your money in the bank, without we wouldn't just be have investment banking failures. We would all be running to the bank to pull our money and the banks would be folding. The Fed is an easy target because few people truly understand it, but in truth its goods far outweigh its negatives. The notion that the market never needs intervention has proved false time and time again. Just look at the 1880s and 1890s, and 1920-30s.
farstriker4 2 years ago
Farstriker- Define "money" and the origins thereof. Thanks.
betrily 2 years ago
Well bluntly money, is the medium of exchange which is printed and exchanged by the Federal reserve in order to facilitate trade and the benefits produced as a result. I assume you were getting at something else, perhaps you can clarify.
farstriker4 2 years ago
I wish I could set up a laboratory America and make Ron Paul the president just to see what would happen. It would have some great points and some terrible points. To be honest I think the economy and banking system would be a low point, his argument against the Fed here honestly shows his very dated sense of the macroeconomy.
farstriker4 2 years ago
how can you back that statement up "his argument against the Fed shows his very dated sense of macroeconomy" the Fed is evil.

NewDirection4us 2 years ago
Bible says borrowing and loaning money is wrong.

The Bible also says "trust your Government" Romans 13.
It would be nice if our Government were just not so corrupt.
The corruption that runs rampant in D.C. is the root of all our troubles.

The problem with Congressmen Paul's argument is if you followed through with it and abolished the Fed. Because the Fed isn't the only part of our government not authorized by the Constitution. Printing paper money, the Air Force, having a large standing Army for over 60 years, etc.

Paul said. Said part is people will listen to him.
tobywonken 3 years ago 4
Holy fucking shit! Your right! Fruedian Slip? He admitted the fed's guilt on TV and you seemed to be the only one who noticed it.
