@banklikefrankwhite1 Neither Friedman nor Poland received a degree in guitar. They didn't practice five hours a day, either. Have you ever even heard him play any of the old stuff (not to mention all of the solos he made on Endgame)? Endgame solos go above and beyond anything that any other Megadeth lead has ever played. Dave Mustaine said so himself.

@banklikefrankwhite1 He played the solo better than Friedman ever did live. Friedman actually messed up the majority of his solos live. Don't get me wrong, I am still a fan of Friedman, but Chris Broderick can play Marty's stuff with his right hand alone (as he said in an interview).

i just disagree, marty's solo's had both amazing technical ability, and heart and soul (which is what i think brodericks are missing) , and that is my opinion...i haven't really liked megadeth since he left

@1madaboutguitar Yeah. Friedman messed up all the time. People say that he just got bored of the songs, so he started playing the solos differently, but no one actually knows. Broderick plays the stuff perfectly every time. Even though we all know that Friedman used more emotion in his solos, Broderick's solos are much harder technically.

The only thing even remotely close to saying he "doesn't like to solo" is when he said that he "considers himself a better rhythm player than a lead player". Which, in all honesty, many metal gurus would beg to differ at. Dave's even rated the #1 lead guitarist in the world in a book. Forgot the author's name. And I concur.

He just plays his leads sloppy as hell as well as rhythm.

John Petrucci is far more clean and faster and he doesnt just play in 4/4 all the time.
