coming from some one who sprays alot of woods and doors and things for cabinets you could get a harbor freight full size spray gun and i think it would cut your spray time down and give you more even dispersion. then use the pen for small parts and corners.
Very nice work. I know this video is old but I was wondering if you are using the airbrush that comes with the kits Lauer sells which I assume is where you got your paints etc. are they okay? do they look like they will last more than a few paintjobs?
I am amazed at how well the finish on these parts came out with the worst spraying technique ever..LONG EVEN OVERLAPPING STROKES..Not just spray it all over the place moving as fast as you can..Sorry..Painting cars engines and parts is MY thing...
like the vd but about the degreasing you have to be careful what you use not everything will be nuetral with paint some things react with the paint can cause wrinkling i suggest jus using actual wax and grease remover but great job guys
I've never duracoated anything but I have sprayed cars since I was a kid. And one bit of advice I would give to anyone going to spray anything for the first time is DON'T try and get full coverage in one coat. I've seen to many people (me being one of 'em) wreck a project by trying to get full coverage in one coat and results in runs and hours of extra sanding. Mist coat the first coat, wait until tounch dry and spray the second coat slightly thicker, third coat maybe needed. Just take it slow.
Looks like powder coating to me. Personally I would rather kiss your mother than hassle with all the work you need to do to make it come out right. I did like that hello kitty camo idea... that was awesome.
I get the whole duracoating thing but my question is does it affect the feed or eject , if I get any in that area. Also the same question about duracoating the bolt. (If it helps I'm working on a mauser)
What things will I need from the pricing page will I Need to get the best finish on my gun, there are drop down menus on page where you choose a color with things on them and I don't know what a lot of them are.
Thanks for the instructional video. I can't wait to paint a couple guns of mine. However, you have no clue how to spray paint. You should be using smooth fluid passes by the item instead of just hitting the button and jerking your hand about randomly. I am so surprised you didn't have any runs. I hope you don't charge people for that.
Personally I think that duracoat takes the origonal beauty of a firearm or knife away. Looks like crap to me up there with camouflage on a nice hunting rifle. What a shame.
@paininthe10 Different strokes for different folks. The REAL beauty of it is that you can do it YOUR way without having someone else dictate what THEY think you should do. -- Veri
@paininthe10 I agree, BUT for real world operators they are more concerned with function than with form. It's more important that their knife doesn't rust or constantly need to be oiled than it is that it "looks cool."
@SuperRootbeer17 You need to grow up man. Just because someone doesn't see the world in the same light you do doesn't mean you need to get your panties in a bunch.
@IIIBLAKEIII how a bout you go fuck your self and don't tell me what to do what i told him is the truth they are coating the guns and to do exactly what i said it does
@SuperRootbeer17 I'm not looking for a troll, or telling you what to do. Just trying to say that being an asshole isn't a necessity on youtube. Sadly though... some people like yourself believe it is.
@BrianWilsonJacob Same reason why you seem to give a shit about my opinion. It's my opinion and I guess if you're not allowed to express your opionion on these videos then why the hell are they even posted ? Does the military duracoat ?
Just a tip here.....once you've degreased a part, DO NOT touch it again with your bare hands until after the part has been painted. Your hands have natural oils on them, and can transfer those oils to the part, which will affect adhesion of the paint.
LOL I agree with some below... I think duracoat is cool from what I've seen, but I'd say don't get carried away with it. I think most knives and such have superb finishes to begin with so unless you are doing it to actually get camouflage or to prevent corrosion on a knife or other that easily rusts consider it carefully before doing it.
@ganaschico I'm sure it's one of the songs that comes with the video editing software he uses. All those songs are royalty-free and can be used by anyone who buys the software. I've actually heard that particular bit in many videos.

Maybe for those slippery knives or anything else you want more grip on, you can put a thin layer op duracuat on it, then when it's still wet, you put evenly a bit of fine sand or other very small hard particles on it and then another layer of duracoat. Wouldn't you get a very grippy surface?
Hey, Nutn, I'm seeing some nice little items in your shop that you obviously use to work on/modify/maintain your equipment. I was thinking it would make a great video if you could do a review on your shop in whole, or more particularly some of the items, like your belt sander, progressive press, whatever. @HAILxTHExLEAF Why are you asking dumb questions? He digs it man, that's why. So does the majority of people tuning into this. So don't be so negative.
Remember to be careful with brake cleaner, allow it to boil off, either by applying it to a super hot surface or not being careful, and it degrades into phosgene gas, and will kill you with less than 1.5 ppm (part per million).
Man you are waaay too into duracoat, esp that brown color. Never been a fan of brown, but I can see the usefulness in a desert location. Personally I would rather have titanium nitride coatings on my blades. There are several different looks you can get with it. Not really something you can do in your basement, though.
Might I lend a friendly word of advice? Try this next time. First coat .... dusting only. Wait 15 minutes. Then put on a second coat of a thicker dusting. Allow to dry 20 minutes. Then you are ready to put it on with a full coat for the final coat. This allows for better adhesion, and optimum coverage. Like I said ... just a friendly suggestion. Also, you might try one of Paasche's newer 'TAF series' fan nozzles. They work great for light coverage over a wide area.
ok seriouse question ..from one of many veiwer in alaska..duracoat verse brownells gunkote?? i love my guns and want thebest things to keep them operating fully and the fullest..pro's and con's of both?in your opinion
