You simply had a claymore, flash, or grenaid already thrown or placed and it went off when you tried to commando knife and missed giving you a hit mark

One way to know that he didnt miss, if u know in COD, that if u hit someone, and it does the stop, then continue ur attack, u actually hit him, it was just far away and not up close, and barely in the zone of the attack. Thats why he got the hit marker, hope this helped!

i think what happened is when u knifed, like other times happened to me, it makes the animation of knifing but you dont kill him. at the same time, you probably got a hitmarker from some tnt barrels oyu probably shot before and it blew up and hurted someone. that happened to me in mw3 and i saw how i got that hitmarker through theater mode.
