I remember seeing these guys at a block party in Brooklyn, back in the pre-crack days. They turned out, of course. Little did anyone know, they were proteges' of Kool and the Gang.
I WAS 14 LOWRIDING HARD [WITHOUT A DRIVERS LICENCE,{REMEMBER THEM DAYS @ STORY N KING, SAN JOSE, CA 95122}, WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT], HYDRALICS WERE NOT EVEN IN USE THEN, BUT I KEPT ON BUMPIN TILL ANOTHER DAY....THE ORIGINAL ....WOOO
New to me, never ever heard the version in its FULL-LENGTH UNCUT GLORY! Hitherto, I just had the 45 single that was in 2 parts...and even THAT was a shortened version comapred to THIS!
I had just started playing guitar in 1974. At first all I wanted to play was The Beatles. Then I heard the rhythm guitar on this song and totally fell out for it! Thanks for posting this lost and rare gem.
During some members of Kool & the Gangs' sojourn with the Nation of Islam under Mr. Elijah Muhammads' leadership, they produced some of their most conscious yet danceable tunes ever. "Light of Worlds" will continue to be their most conscious piece, containing only what some say is a mystical '9' songs, the last being "Hereafter".
So did I!! I later wrote a couple a pieces for the keyboard that was based on that guitar riff. The bass was kickin too!! Yea!! 1975, 12th grade, man those were the days, and I was too havin' too much fun to realize it then!
When i lived in Wrightstown New Jersey back then, I was told tha the kay-Gees were kool and the Gangs younger brothers. That would account for their Brass groove.
Man you are right about that. I am 46, and I wouldn't trade places with any young person today. I feel sorry for them- I really do. They missed out on the 70s. I am glad I grew up when I did.
I was a freshman at Saddleback High in Santa Ana. Those were the glory days for cars and music for me. You could buy an old Impala cheap and Whittier Blvd was at it's peak! Good Times.
i think i was 7 or 8 had my on tv and my own record player.anytime my mom would go and by herself a new record she would get me my own copy.just so i wouldn't ruin hers...lol!
beacuse i played them all day1 and all night long! ...and in this world you ...GOT TO KEEP ON BUMPIN!
Video? What video?? All I'm seein is a still shot of the 45 label. A video clip of the KayGees performing this track on "Soul Train" would've been the shit!!!
First and foremost, the song upload you provided is MORE than sufficient because I simply don't hear songs like these on the radio anymore and I live in L.A. The memories are priceless and its always good to know I'm not the only person who appreciates '70's funk/soul. Your playlist got heat, props to ya! My comment was a direct response to efunkadelic's. Now lets kick back and enjoy the music! ONE

Kevin Bell, who played bass in the KayGees is Kool's younger brother. A 3rd brother, Ronald, who was also in Kool & The Gang produced the KayGees.
