  • my english teacher made us do six of these. it was the easiest thing for me! i LOVED it!

  • I love this concept:

Writing memoir leads to more stories.

  • unfortunately,i can't count.

  • here's mine. slipped in the bath tub and discovered the soap.

  • being accused of dire verbosity, this will serve as my barometer... 8^) Great music!

oops, how can I say that in 6 words...

Talk too much listen more Mic!

    /Mic

  • I found this through the book "The Best American Non-required Reading" series last year. Awesome!

  • We're doing a project in Language Arts class based upon your ideas. A very creative thought you had in creating this.

    -Very Nice!

  • This is life? I'll take it!

  • This was so much fun! What a great diversion. Some sad, some hilarious. Splendid idea, I loved it!

  • this sounds like such a fun project! ill have to get the book! i wish i could of been a part of this? will you do it again and how do we keep updated if you do make another one?

  • None of these are even remotely comparable to Hemingway's.

  • Great idea, great concept, and a creative twist on the Hemingway story. I will be buying.

  • "Uncompromising "short" stories transforms inconsistent reader."

I wrote that in celebration. I read and write, but don't read books often. I picked up Not Quite What I was Planning. One of the most unique books to ever inspire me to write six word-memoirs of my own.

  • Sweet and melancholy. What a beautiful combintaion.

  • Glad to see that weren't not dead in the creativity department. We need more people to step up and do things out of the ordinary. It's ideas like this one that will continue to create other great ideas that bound us together in humanity.

Best wishes on the success of your book!

  • i loved this. here, for the record, are mine:

frankly, i do give a damn.

finally found myself at forty eight.

to be whole, that's the thing.

forget love. fell instead into chocolate.

  • Thanks for including me. I feel honored. And am doing my best to spread the gospel of the six-word memoir!

  • I'm one of the memoirists in the book, which I read cover to cover and loved. Everyone I've told about it has been so impressed! But more than that, they think it's a great idea, and a few of them are even going to buy the book. Way to go SMITH! Love the song too!

  • Another awesome thirst-quenching six-pack!

  • Another awesome thirst-quenching six-pack!

  • hey i heard of that band....weren't they on vh1's behind the music? those guys are so super awesome. i wish they would be my friends.

  • @Seral3: We did say that Hemingway was challenged to write a "story", but what we do at SMITH is about personal stories, so we adapted the idea to memoirs (and gave credit where it was due).

    Sorry you're not into it.

I'm personally really proud of all the excellent contributions we got from people all over the world. It's been a really fun project to be a part of -- especially since everyone can be a part of it!

  • Bought and enjoyed your book.

    Will another be coming out?

  • The song is Stretch by Pedalsped, a Bay Area band.

  • I like this video, it rocks.

  • What song is this?

    Sounds RHCP-ish?

  • YEAH!!!!

I can't wait till it comes out...

    I already ordered 7 copies

  • First of all, what Hemingway wrote was not a memoir; it was a story. Given that, I'm amazed at how many of these AREN'T stories. A lot of them are opinions, or statements. Very few of them imply arcs or plots or storylines of any kind. Needless to say, I won't be buying this book.

  • It wasn't supposed to be a story. It was a challange to describe your LIFE in six words.

  • I just pushed your comment beyond the 5 negatives to make it invisible.

Suffice to say, I think you're a wanker. Keep negativity to yourself, the internet has enough. Read the apologia above and feel ashamed for yourself.

  • What song is playing in this video?

  • can not wait to read it

  • It's great. So many creative and funny people.
