@lindsaymobil22 the name isn't completely gone, at Dalston Junction, they refer to the service as "East London Line", but I agree with you about Shoreditch...
Brilliant nostalic footage. Like the mirror shots. A-stock is the most comfortable on the underground. Pity one can't recapture the distinctive smell of Wapping Station!
It looks like the London Overground is now operational or will be soon. I just wish to mention that Berlin, Germany, had a "Berlin Overground" (S-Bahn) and a "Berlin Underground" (U-Bahn) for at least eighty years!
We are all heading off from Crystal Palace for a Bagel Beano Sunday 23rd May at 10.30 am. The day our tube opens on the ELL. Come along and take a trip to Brick Lane for the best salt beef bagels in London. mmm!
It's just for fun so bring the family and wear a silly hat. Hope to see you there.
@Blackwavealmighty No, I understand what you mean. I just don't see why it would be strange. I think it is one of the best things to happen to London's Railways since the Thameslink core opened back in 1988!
@Blackwavealmighty I see no reason why not. Thameslink works, and the idea of linking North East and South East London is a very good one. I see no reason why this will not work!
@alrispoli, I did not mean that it literally would not work, just that it seems strange for an "Underground" and a "normal railway" being part of the same network. eg. the way one would compare the old silverlink and the london underground.
@Blackwavealmighty Ah, but as you site LUL and Silverlink, that sharing of trains on the Watford D.C has worked very well for at least two decades!! The main problem that is going to (and it is going to) happen is that the ELLX trains cannot access the fast lines at New Cross Gate or north of Norwood Junction. So in the event of a problem on the slow lines then they will be stuck! Other than that I cannot see an operational problem with it!
@Blackwavealmighty You must rember that the East London Line Was Built as a normal railway before the underground took over now its jsut reverting to what it was orioanlly.
I've got footage of the new class 378 units being tested at Haggerston and at Shadwell stations. You'll find them in my profile entitled LIFE BEHIND THE WHEEL.
A few days ago a I saw a test train on the tracks leading to either New Cross or New Cross Gate. I was on a crowded commuter train on a dark overcast morning so there was no chance to take a snap.
Probably one of the ones I was driving then! (The one you were on, not the ELL one!)
They are testing quite frequently over there now, will certainly seem strange seeing them alongside our Southern trains between NXG and Palace/W.Croydon!
Any chance you could tell the numpties who crowd around the doors to move down inside the train. When I ask of of these idiots to either move down or get out of the way (politely), they actually look offended.
It's going to be very strange seeing the new class of trains running on this section of what will be London Overground. I rather like these old trains, there is something friendly and comforting about them.
As for Shoreditch I went there last week. The station building remains, just about. However when I visited it was surrounded by winos and I wasn't able to get a very good photo of it.
Fans of 4 car A Stock should now go to the Chesham Branch of the MET line, that's what I will be doing!!
When was this recorded, i'm only asking because at Wapping station there was a barrier at the end of the platform.

Its a shame Shoreditch was shut down and filled in, and now the east london line itself is gone, most of it retracked as the overground system
lindsaymobil22 1 year ago
@lindsaymobil22 even more of a shame is the state of the old station building. a real shame they couldn't have restored it as a museum or something.

I mean that it seems strange, not that there is an operational problem.

I t will seem weird when it reopens, a "subway" within a normal railway line in London. Am I the only one to think that that just doesn't work?
