  • Can't get enough of this man. I have not come across a book that has been so powerful yet SIMPLE and poignant as the Power of Now, and I might add unpretentious. He is a pleasure to listen too.

  • A lot of people are stuck in the then when they didn't want it to be a now so they relive the stuck then as a now as a safe solution to not live the moment of the then now.

  • Or maybe they think ,you are a first-class charlatan Eckhart I hated the book, and not because I am not ready for it. :):) It is NOT NEW People!! He is a trick of the New-Age trade!!!! Paul Brunton is the real deal....and his book :The quest of the overself... Do yourself a favor,I know what I am talking about.

  • @viennaustria you made me laugh! thx.

  • @Blackeze :) you are welcome!

  • I only want to say a big Thank You to the uploader and to everyone that shares these kind of constructive and mind opening videos, You guys are doing something good and thats acutally rare in these days. I also want to say that Eckhart Tolle is what i call a genious and an inspiration to mankind. And about people posting , guys, if you understand anything from this video, understand to accept and appreciate rather than judge and argue. Lets face it, afterall it doesnt rly matter who is right.

  • @question279

    excellent way to phrase it!

  • Exellent to know that the present moment is more important than the past and the future illusion in this dreaming world.

Just so, I think that the idea of Heaven is as a childish future-dream. Real human suffering is when we belive in the dying dream, an unknownable soul, whether there is such a realm of an awaiting-heaven or God.

Godly-Heaven seems to devalue the present moment. And our Hopes for Heaven is a fraud that rob us from the reality- this present conciousness itself.

  • Well put..

  • i wish i could express myself like that..totally inspiring for me ..thx

  • I am glad you understand the remarkable value of "the present moment.' It is an initial state to self-awakening of our relationship with the cosmic webs. And when the gate of this meditative state emerges in our heart, it leads us to a realization of our desires to exist and to escape from painful suffering. The manifestation of suffering consciousness in all Beings flows into a river of time- to the end of its own timeless beginning. Here and now, consciousness is everywhere wholesome.

  • @question279

We experience the Heaven State when we evolve to the totally conscious state and live in the Present of the Presence of I am.

  • @question279 “Ask yourself whether the dream of heaven and greatness should be waiting for us in our graves - or whether it should be ours here and now and on this earth.” - Ayn Rand

  • @question279 Very well put. Namaste

  • wow. if he thinks obama means a possitive change he's seriously deluded. just wait and see. like a previous poster noted both parties are run by the same elite. it's a rigged game sheep! wake up.obama is continuing the wars for profit and control and promoting more of the fascist police state here.watch some david icke for contrast. tolle's fine but not complete.

  • Wow you totally didn't understand what Ehart Tolle was saying about Obama and his role. Your though process probably heard his name and you were drawing your own conclusions instantly and ready to type. Take a breather. Pure awareness

  • obama's role is "positive' if you're for the continuation of bush's policies..more war and less freedom.

  • @thombow52 Oh you wise man. If all these commentors would go to the site for the magazine: "THE ROLLING STONES" for the issue July 9-23 of 2009; Go to page 52 all the players (ALL THE SAME BEINGS in the background that are behind every party. (all three) There is a 6th bubble coming by the "Few" "how Goldmansachs controls Wash. DC? "It is going to be "The Energy Climate Bill" Wants to take the middle mans money "as an incentive + way to save money but a Stock Market (JPMORGAN) CRIME-Set-UP.:-(

  • enlightenment is the end of suffering

  • Diamonddust22 He is simply using Obama as contextual. Obama is a representation not the actual person. Its a higher level of conciousness, the break for HABIT, CHANGE. Tolle is amazing, if you want to get more in depth check out Dr Hawkins

  • He sounds very buddhist about conciousness, peace demension, self and thought.

  • @question279 Hi when I began this journey of awakening, My first lessons were on the live Web Event a year ago with Eckhart.I was a sheeple so OMG I felt guilty even listening to this dear man. BUT he got me to "sit Still." Then a guide was led to me, that My crossed/over partner sent my way, (LONG BEAUTIFUL STORY) + I began a New Path OF knowing who the heck I am. WOW! In my studying, I found there is some truth in each religion set up, by "The FEW" +things to separate the WHOLE. 'SHEEP'<3 U :)

  • It's been a long time since anyone so moved my spirit and brought a sense of hope despite circumstances as Eckhart Tolle has. I am so grateful for hearing his message today for the first time. What a gift to humanity this kind and gentle soul is.

  • Eckhart is Great! I love listening to his talks. But this is the first time i have been slighty disappointed. The fact that he thinks Obama is different from Bush, and doesn't realise Obama is controlled by the Illuminati just like most of the worlds leaders are. Its horrible to see how many people have been fooled by this. "Hope" is something which is always in the future, and never NOW. I'll obviously keep watching Eckhart, his message is brill and he is funny too. :-)

  • audioadditive Obama is different from Bush, and you know, if you want to base your life around secret sects, and all that other jazz, that is your business. I bet you are waiting for a space craft to pick you up.

  • I dont base my life around those things. For example.. its like, if there was a serial killer on my street and i found out about it, i would want to warn the other people living on the street that he was there, so they could protect themselves, thats all. Im not waiting for any spacecraft either, lol. Your ignorance shines as bright as diamonds diamonddust22. Ignorance is the only thing that keeps the Illuminati's agenda going. Peace to you anyway.

  • audioadditive first off your technique of wanting to label me ignorant does not work. So lets get that out of the way. I know more about secret sects and all the stuff little boys get into in life so they can run around telling all their friends as they feed the ego in boundless joys of talking. Live your life, you won't change a single thing. What others do, will not effect you, as you are not that important. They don't want attention, so live your life.

  • Notice how he never interrupts - he listens fully, then responds without any edge of ego or need to self-justify. It's good because it gives you confidence in how genuine he is, and that then underscores his teachings and written texts.

  • @Hologhoul Humility personified. Thank God for Eckhart!

  • Thanks a lot for these videos!

I already heard about the name Eckhart Tolle, but kind of forgot about him until I found this interview. It's awesome how much sense he makes when talking. Even when you haven't read his book, these words of his can help you to feel better right now.

  • 美味天使!

  • "I exist beyond the reach of thoughts"

  • Ramita76 awesome, who wrote that.

  • Rumi :)

  • Ramita76 =^_^=

  • @Ramita76 Rumi

  • Can we all just get along?

  • Jaimetrue you know nothing of what he is saying because you aren't on the path yet obviously, or you would have responded to it. Your also still identified with your mind coming on here and trying to defend something and saying he is a liar. Take it or leave it, you obviously don't know the truth, cause you know not what your saying.

  • If it helps, I too have experienced what he is talking about. He is not lying. Read "A New Earth" with focus and an intent to understand the message.

  • the simple, perfect and absolute truth. cant you feel it?

  • Sometimes i can feel it but i have an insane mind that continuously babbles on and covers it up, but sometimes it penetrates through.

  • industrialization, urbanization, and technology have warped all of our minds- don't feel bad.

When was the last time you hiked in the mountains or walked in the woods?

That is the key to quieting the modern mind.

  • tristramshandy3 very true

  • He one day decided to be silent

  • that's right jojo mojo

  • The true truth is only obtained through individuality and self awarness! Eckhart Tolle found this though self-self!

    Do not seek

    Let go

    Do not search

For it will find you when least expected

  • I like what he has to say, but this is really just REBT, rational emotive behavior therapy developed by Albert Ellis decades ago. Differently tho Tolle includes some spiritual dimensions that REBT lacked, for good reason. The spiritual dimention that Tolle speaks of ...like the whole "collective unconcious" changing sounds good but you have to realize that it's basically mombojumbo or pseudoscience until empirical evidence that is statistically significant supports it.

  • what is the point if the collective miind is unconscious, that basically means that it is a dumb arse, for anything cool to be said about it it would need to have some self awearness, eckart has just mixed up everything he's ever read and spouts it while trying not to contradict himself. poor fat barstard, oh, maybe not poor.

  • You reduced him to nothing more than a mental concept in your head. Now your ego feels far superior because he is just fat bastard to you. A conscious being would feel much more sorry for you not being able to control the thoughts in your hear

  • I am conscious, I am Brahman. There is nothing more, and apart from the fat Bastard comment I meant what I said about Eckart, that he has tried to amalgamate every philosophy I have ever read and make them consistent when really some of them do not fit and should only be alluded to so that the listener can reach the conclusion alone. You can not explain the samadhi of someone who is awake to the personal and non-personal aspects of the absolute in their own being and to try confuses people.

  • I must admit I did not know what Brohman was when I read your post. So I did a quick search and Gathered that it is the highest of the Gods in Hindu philosophy who enjoys all of creation. So I guess I too as well as Eckhart are it as well. So we should feel infinite love for all of what creation has manifested hear on earth and the whole universe. Which would mean refraining from degrading comments.

  • Brahman is not a God, but if you keep researching you will get it.

The best in my opinion description is Adi Shankara's commentaries on The Advaita Brahma Vedanta Sutra.

Derogetory is lame you are right but there is nothing wrong with not agreeing with someone as intelligent discourse can lead us to greater knowledge.

  • However I do somewhat understand about Eckhart full spectrum approach and how it almost tries to paint the whole picture. I've learned it can mostly only be said what it isn't because human language is not an advanced enough form of communication. That is why as it comes to you through life experience you feel the infinite light and love, but most people cant explain it to others because its beyond words.

  • Others can point at the moon but when will you know what the moon is actually?

This is my problem when I see that telling people does not always help them and even sometimes hurts them as they become deluded because the words sound so easy to understand. This is why you will find that the Buddha spoke on two levels, one you get at once and both meanings that you get later when you shift past dualism. I think it was said best about Brahman here..." Nirvana does not pretend to be what it is not."

  • Meher Baba gave discourses for many years trying to point . He one day decided to be silent . After many years he had it announced that he was ready to talk. Many devotees gathered . What did he say? "DON'T WORRY<-BE HAPPY"

  • Nisargadatta is on you tube contradicting himself saying I Am and I Am That and that the I Am does not exist. He makes a lot of sense but you keep up.

  • It's not just REBT. It's consciousness manifest. That is why all gurus, all enlightened people, blah blah blah all say the same thing. REBT just happened to be one of the many to tie into consciousness manifest.

  • Eckhart Tolle knows what he is talking about. I met him personally while ago and was surprised by how great and innocent he was and how gentle he talked about the power of now. He reminds me so much of another master I met before by the name of Bijan Anjomi. I am sure there are more great teachers that we all would meet.

  • Nisargadatta knows what he is talking about, I seen him a while ago on u tube and was surprised how vicious and loud he was and how he seemed to lack any need to please others, he reminded me so much of Brahman, I am sure that he is the only one.

  • Many have spoken their particular expressions of truth. It obviously manifests as all expressions of life. Some have had an "awakening" of some sort and will try to point to what IT is. They will all fail. No matter how much they know what they are talking about. Anything said is for sure false. So perhaps it is best said in the dept of that "pure beauty" in perfect silence.

  • Yes that does make the most sense.

  • Yes, no one can say it. But in some mysterious way it always says itself. No one can shine a light on it, but it is ever self-effulgent.

  • Namaste.

  • that means you just failed.. go home!!

  • Iam always home... where ever I go

  • You see that is the point as we share this we already know, that to speak the truth will be like that and that is the beauty of it!

  • I don't know but I don't think Obama will be able to make that much change, to me he is just another puppet. -Maybe a better one with a better appearance but a puppet nonetheless.

  • For sure I was quite surprised to hear him mention Obama like that. I was all for him about 6 months before election and before the time came to vote I could see right through him. Both sides are controlled and Obama pretty much answers to the same people as Bush I & II, Clinton, and every other president that wasn't assassinated. No matter what they're plan is though a collective conscious mind could easily stop it dead in its tracks. Every war is war on what we can think.

  • so true! thanks for that

  • I can listen to Eckhart for ages, he just exudes stillness :-)

  • i completely understand what you are saying, 99ialwzwin. very clear. very simply stated. i think that the tools come with understanding and an intensity to want to stay in now.

  • The problem arises after the brief glimpse of truely living in the now - when the thinking which thinks it is you tries to repeat the experience. It becomes the thinking that is experiencing the now instead of the real person. So, it is very likely your friend's thinking that is living in a more mindful and liberated manner. When the thinking becomes better there is no fundamental change. This is just the nature of thinking. Tolle doesn't address this problem.

  • Sure he does. I don't have a link, but I've heard him and countless others (especially in the Integral circle) talk about this exact aspect. No offense my friend, but who are you to tell someone that their friend may not really be in the 'now' as much as they believe?

  • The thinking has learned to play you at all levels of your development. It is the part of you that thinks it is you and has always been so familiar. So when one begins a new activity of self discovery, the thinking is there thinking it is doing it. That is all it knows how to do. There may be a brief and true experience of the now. But, immediately the thinking is there trying to relive the experience. This danger is ever present and impedes real progress - the thinking is what progresses.

  • I understand what your saying livenowdoing, but he does explain how to go beyond mind, you just have not listened to all his talks. Its not about achieving some state in the future which is what you are implying. The whole point is to go deeply into being through the present moment. Watch the video Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle.

  • I watched it. Yes, the problem is he "talks" about it. He doesn't give you the tools to do it. You can spend a lifetime between "no more seeking" and "intensity", with the understanding that you "are" already there - and still not be there. The ego thinks it is fully itself and it is realizing it. The person gets nowhere.

  • He does give you tools, the inner body is one, being aware of sense perceptions, noticing silence, inside yourself or outside. These are more pronounced when you surrender. if you have truly had enough suffering, all you really need to do is relax your whole body and just allow everything to be. You will feel emotion which is tightness, vibration, unease at first. Relax into that and go deeply into yourself. You can know this by the degree of peace you feel within NOW, not in the future.

  • And WHO is using the tools? This is the great problem that Tolle doesn't have the tools to deal with. Who is looking at the inner body, who is being aware of sense perceptions, noticing silence? The ego is riding on your shoulder thinking it is doing or not doing relaxing or observing and If one is not aware of this he or she can go 20 years and end up just a better ego.

  • Awareness, consciousness, your deepest self, God(there all the same) is aware of what is going on. Thoughts and emotions are the ego. The awareness is what watches thoughts and emotions. Its easy to distinguish between being trapped in mind or being present. When your trapped in mind your constantly thinking and suffering. When your present the mind slows down and you feel peace. In other words suffering and compulsive thinking become your teacher, teaching you to become present.

  • It has been an interesting conversation. I wish you the best in your endeavors. I hope you achieve the peace you seek.

  • But then there are those who will state that there is no ego to begin with... so there is nothing to do about it? Or just "paint the ego to the corner of the wall" and then see what was there to begin with? Non-dual shuffle is inconsistent at times.

  • I read all of your comments/replies. I believe with all the questions you raise you yourself have never been completely still. When you are completely still and or at one with everything within and without, there is no mind or ego to ask these questions. You just are! AKA "I AM"

  • Meditation is the tool.

  • Learn how to meditate, Meditation for Beginners by Jack Kornfield is a good book for beginners.

  • Meditation is the way to go beyond mind.

  • Yes, but not as a means to an end. There is no goal in meditation. Otherwise one will miss the point of recognising silence.

  • Tolle, like many, can talk about living in the now. But, he fails when it comes to effectively showing others how to do it.

  • livenowdoing said "But, he fails when it comes to effectively showing others how to do it."

That's rather a sweeping statement you make. His book" Practising the Power of Now has helped two of my dearest friends to live in a more mindful and liberated manner. Have you done a survey of all people ?

  • So let's say Obama was this shift in consciousness as Eckhart says. Does that negate the fact that Obama is basically a Wall Street creation? That Obama is fighting a senseless war in Afghanistan and bombing Pakistan? That Obama is losing favor with Anti War voters like myself?

How could Eckhart seemingly endorse such a man?

I think Eckhart is naive with many things. Great teacher, but just naive. You would think Eckhart would endorse someone like Ron Paul, if you laid the commonalities out

  • Now where I worry about my own 'following' of Eckhart's teachings, is that a conundrum exists.

How does one remain 'spiritual' , yet disregard FACT and EVIDENCE? Say if all chaos and hell broke loose and the Government decided to turn Tyrannical against us....what do we do then?

Do we fight? Defend ourselves? Stand up to it? Does Eckhart even have a stance on that?

And with Obama...okay if he represents a shift in consciousness as eckhart said, does that mean we're ll dupes for buzzwords?

  • For instance, Obama supported the ' BAILOUTS". Basically public money given to private institutions. How could that ever be 'hopeful'??

It's not pragmatic to even feel that Obama represents 'change' or 'hope'. That is a false assumption, because as we have seen 'change' and 'hope' are not set in stone, they are subjective .

So I really have problems with Eckhart saying such a thing. It doesn't seem that eckhart has a sense of fact and data.

  • I have a problem with something. I really think Eckhart Tolle is a great teacher, but I really find it hard to relate to his "Obama" feelings.

Eckhart is great in things 'spiritual' , but I feel he is lacking in facts of political nature. That's where I have reservation. Because the world is made of powerful elites and movers. And I feel that Obama , like Bush, is just another one of them.

Maybe if Eckhart knew the 'truth' about people like Obama and Bush? I dunno.

  • After suffering comes passion. Comes passion to change. That's is true. Humans have to suffer, be pushed in order to do something. A kick in the tush. That is what religion was thought to be or still is thought to be. These different paths brings us to a similar path, but what people do is cling to the religion and then they loose what is to be gained from it. Its all symbolism in the religions really. Don't cling to them, get through them if you're lost.

  • LOl I was one of those who thought it was rubbish. I found some parts good and others I couldnt agree with because of Dogma. Now I am free of Dogma and I enjoy echkart Tolle's works :)

  • I was going on with interview until he got political, talking about the shift in consciousness, and the greatness of obama. This stuff is pretty irrelevant and takes away from the real message, which is the zazen, sitting practice.

  • I agree sitting meditation is most important, but this consciousness in our meditation emanates out into the universe.

  • Of course many people proved that they are ready for and that they need change by putting their hope into the "Change"-Slogan of Obama and electing him. BUT of course we all know and see that his "Change"-Slogan was and is a farce, and i miss that fact to be mentioned by Eckhart.

  • I agree about Obama being a manifestation of hope for we in the US.

I love Eckhart Talle! I wrote to several Oprah producers about his work a few months before she featured him as her puck for her book club, on Soul Series, and her the webinar. I saw every episode.

I would like to think I played a small part in helping get this message out to promote this wonderful Holy Shift.

    Thanks for posting! +

  • Obama is a corrupt bastard who works for the bankers. He has no ones best interest in mind except for the Bank and the Federal Reserve. Just wait until he screws us over just like Bush, you are gonna feel stupid

  • I love Eckhart Tolle too. But still would prefer Ron Paul rather than Obama. Eckhart Tolle help change my life but he is still human and i don't need to agree with everything he says concerning worldly matters.

  • you have to be kidding stanleyku ,,,, 9 11 is defenitly an inside job just like kennedy ,,, who are you and we kiding here ,,, we are talking spirituality.... it really is a different dimension ....you have to know ,, come on ,,, your gouverment is evil .... just think about that for a couple of days ,,, your gouverment is evil ,,, then after you have though ,, we will talk

  • The conspiracy theory makes the world more interesting, but that doesn't make it real. History CAN be changed in an instant, it's not all planned my friend. Back to comic books!

  • you are telling the truth yay!

God Bless. THOSE THINGS ARENT CONSPIRACY THEORIES, THEY ARE JUST PLAIN OLD CONSPIRACIES.

  • Thanks Taylor ...not conspiracy Theories but conspiracy Facts .Obama is only a cover . a manifestation of hope (like Sherry said ) after the hell Bush put us in .4 years of break before they get back to the NWO agenda .Unless there is a major shift in conscienceness.bigger then in the 60's .

  • agreed. we need to take these guys down...

  • It's quite an interesting thing to observe, this. I've been enraged for several days, but I've been aware of it. It's been increasing, building, and I fell sick at the same time. Before, I was in bliss, in THAT state, for almost the whole day, every day. Then suddenly this, when I became more conscious of the inner workings of the mind, my conditionings, due to following along krishnamurti's explorations of the mind. I feel a revolution is taking place, the final death of the old.

  • I don't understand why these cynical critics feel so threatened by what he says. He really does make sense.

  • cause they dont want people to know the truth ...imagine if all the society knew we are one conscienceness ...those american cynicks would have one hell of a time trying to sell a war by blowing 2 buildings.

  • I like Tolle very much but anyone who thinks 9/11 is an inside job needs to go back to the comic books.

  • I've heard this theory. Some people seem to think that in order for a huge steel structure to collapse under tons and tons of load, that the steel needs to actually "melt". This is wrong. It only needs to be hot enough to lose tensile strength. It's great to have a fertile imagination, but let's not do away with common sense entirely.

  • I think it doesn't matter that he copy things. He help by the awaking progress of the earth. The Ego is a good film actor but it is not you or me. And the thing behind this want to "live" this actor. We all in a fantastic movie. If you know this, its time to awake and than u or "it" knows how it want to be and it will be.

  • "The 'energy field" he's feeling is static electricity buildup from wearing too many sweaters". That cracked me up! I must admit, I had been kinda wondering who chose his wardrobe. But hey, that's not to belittle his point. :)

  • Energetic belief particles, BS particles and reality waves trying to occupy the same space create little black holes that suck in lots of money.

  • You can tell this guy is about what he's talking about BECAUSE of this sweaters. He's not letting society dictate what he should be.

  • "You no longer derive your sense of identity from your personal history." E.T. hammers on this point repeatedly because it is the place that almost everyone glosses over. Unless you have been re-defined by the overlying reality which excretes this living experiencing human state, you have no actual alternative to your personal-history self. Unless reality re-defines you as itself, you have only a clip-n-paste, ticky-tacky amalgam of accumulated images, that clings to a flimsy ego structure.

  • I don't understand how he can stand being around such unaware people all the time.

  • ahahah that's something i thought about too. But the part of you that can't stand ppl who aren't as "aware" as you is your ego/mind - and if you listen deeper its probably some insecurity, again, the mind. Plus everyone is just as aware, they just havent realized it. From the place of being, you have compassion for "those" people instead of annoyance, not that a separation b/w you and then is needed.

  • he says it how it is. much respect

  • He speaks the truth from the heart.

    I thank him for that.

    Blessings! MP

  • People like yourself will always be afraid.

    So desperate, it's sad.

You need Eckhart's teachings more than anyone.

  • His approach is so simple and resonates extremely well, To me E.Tolle is what the "normal" should be in "normal person" :)

He is not preaching he is just "being", and understands that by just being who you are, is the simplest and most overlooked form of happiness.

  • I love this man because he is authentic and I just know that he had a "mystical" experience which totally transformed him. It's the kind of experience that has been termed as Cosmic Consciousness. If anyone is interested, there is a book by Dr :Maurice Bucke called Cosmic Consciousness, which the authour had himself, and he describes in detail all the religious and non religious persons as well as famous writers, etc who had this. And there are various degrees of cosmic consciousness.

  • seeing this, I can't stop thinking about moving to BC! lol

    p.s: I live in Ontario

  • Q; Would anyone know of any simular author's like Eckhart?

    THANKU 4 YR REPLIE

  • Krishnamurti

  • Thanks 4 yr replie,I watched his videos he sounds very good. Thanks

  • Yes, I have gained a great deal from his talks and his writings. Krishnamurti is most aligned with Eckart about the nature of thought as the material cause of suffering.

  • sri nisargadatta maharaj, adyashanti etc

  • yah, J. krishnamurti is excellent. Please also try Byron Katie. Look her up on YouTube. Eckhart himself recommends her teaching. She has a self inquiry (4 question) process which can help anyone practice what Eckhart teaches. It has helped me and countless otheres immensely. She has lots of videos on YouT. Enjoy!

  • "watching" alone helped at first; but it just wasn't enough because I still believed certain deep-rooted thoughts. Byron Katie's "The Work" helped me significantly.

  • Try Ajahn Brahm

  • Hi yasirurocks Watched Ajahn on youtube,he is very good and very interesting to listen to.THANKS

  • No problem,Ajahn Brahm was a lecturer of theoretical physics in University of Cambridge before he became a monk

  • To anyone who likes Eckhart's teachings join the 'Buddhist movie club' on facebook created by Chandika Yasiru and find out amaizing buddhist movies

  • Thanks for mentioning about the Buddhist movie club.

    sounds great

  • I love Adyashanti. He's got his own chanell here on youtube. He's for real.

  • he's the BOMB , Stillness=Control=Joy

  • yeah if only other TV was as authentic and intellectual as CBC

  • I laughed sooooo hard when he talked about the sense of exhaling when crossing the border into BC :) I've lived in Vancouver most of my life and have always felt that way, ESPECIALLY coming back from the US.

I love this man though! What an inspiration!!!

Thank you CBC, you are and always will be Canada's Gem!
