In the last election Bush got 53% of the vote. That's more than half the voting population of the United States. Also, the US population is about 300 Million, so 1 million doesn't mean a thing. Also when you are younger you tend to vote Democrat but when you grow up and learn the Democrats want to raise your taxes (like Hillary will) you quickly become a Republican. Republicans are for less tax, less government control & a strong military & defense. Democrats are the opposite.

At this point how can you believe anything this administration says? In writing this, you could compare Nazis and Al Qaeda, but unfortunately, Al Qaeda had nothing to do with Iraq to begin with. If anything, our occupation of Iraq brought Al Qaeda into Iraq more strongly and permanently than when Iraq was under Saddam's rule. Therefore, there should be no association of WWII or Nazis to the situation in Iraq.

But Olbermann's logic isn't flawed, for we did act as an "occupying force" after WWII, so we must be acting as one now if Sec. Rice is comparing wars here.  You can't compare our enemies without comparing our strategy to combat our enemies.

I see your point. In my mind, though, the war didn't end with the fall of Saddam, even if the government changed. Even if we were an "occupying force" in Europe after WWII, there was no conflict. So it would have been absurd to reconsider whether or not to go to war in Europe, since all conflict had ceased. The Marshall Plan represented an entirely different phase of our involvement.

The conflict in Iraq, on the other hand, never ceased. So, reconsidering whether or not we should be there, even after the fall of Saddam, is not absurd.

Thus, Olberman's comparing the Democrats' reconsidering of whether or not we should continue with the *conflict* to Congress' authorization of the Marshall Plan to enter a new phase in Europe *after* the conflict there, is completely absurd, and, as I said, a big disappontment.

More Olberman confusion and trying to make something out of nothing. Condi is saying that it would like going back and undoing the resolution to overthrow Hitler. The Marshall Plan was nothing of that sort. It was simply a plan to give aid. It had nothing to do with undoing the resolution to overthrow Hitler. Here he's twisting her words, trying to make her look foolish, when he's just making himself look so.

Right -- she was saying that undoing the resolution to invade Iraq would be like undoing the resolution to enter WWII, which it would be. Unfortunately, the analogy ends there.

While undoing the resolution to enter WWII would have been absurd after the fall of Hitler, undoing the resolution to invade Iraq after after the fall of Saddam would not necessarily be absurd.

The fall of Hitler ended the European war; the fall of Saddam did not end the war in Iraq. So it's a flawed analogy by Rice.

But Olberman's taking her words and twisting them and saying that she needs a history lesson, and somehow comparing Democrats' consideration of undoing the resolution to invade Iraq with congress approving the Marshall Plan is completely absurd, and a very big disappointment in term's of Olberman's journalistic integrity.

However, I do think that Olbermann did twist her words, neglecting the "so" from her comment. He made it seem like she forgot about the Marshall Plan; she didn't. It was ridiculous, in hindsight, to change any resolution to overthrow Hitler SO that the Marshall Plan could be implemented.

If a resolution for war mentions Al Qaeda connections to Iraq, a definite presence of WMDs, and the Bush Jr. defense of "Saddam was tryin' to kill my pa" as reasons to go to war with Iraq, then I would be trying my hardest to revise that resolution so as to not be associated with an administration that started this war on more false pretenses than true ones.

Yes, that's very true. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to be in Iraq at this point is to clean up the mess we created and perhaps help them transition to a peaceful government -- if that's even possible, that is. So any prior resolution, which was on false pretenses, is null and void, and the Democrats should act on that. But whether or not we should stay, or in what capacity, is a different matter.
