  • There is an interesting series of articles being written at the American Decembrist website about the rise of communism in China and Chiang Kai-Shek's resistance to it.

  • This is a propaganda film back in 1959.

If you ask any native Taiwanese, they would have told you a different story.

Ironically, most of the buildings and infrastructures existed more than 30 years before this film was made.

  • to the guy below me,

Chiang Kai Shiek Planned to fight back in 1965 and retake the mainland but America stopped him

  • @Daveidxd

That was the biggest mistake ever made. If a invasion was planned and carried out successfully by the joint operation between the U.S. and the R.O.C., there would be no major communist influence in the world today.

  • @Daveidxd yeah it wudve been disastrous if they didnt

  • When will we retake mainland China!? Its been about 60 years that the communist sacked Mainland China. The Mainlanders are crying for our help.

  • Yeah, but it is extremely difficult to do. Maybe it's too late, the only hope we have left is Christ.

  • @CHENPEIYI1989 are u stupid? the communists do suck before, but they r slowly improving china. hundreds of thousands live in good standards in mainland china. it is also true that there is a lot of poverty, but communist china is getting way better each year.

  • October 5, 1959!!! Almost 49 years ago!!!

  • Fuck these green DPP traitor assholes and to be honest fuck the red communists. ROC forever!!!

  • nope oreo, the nationalists are the true successors to China. The Communists are stooges that didn't do jack to fight the Japanese in WWII and couped the nationalists afterward.

  • That's not strictly true. The Communists did quite a bit to fight the Japanese - that was one of the purposes of at least the first United Front in 37, and Mao Zedong became reasonably famous for using his guerilla tactics against both GMD and Japanese forces. The Communists have done plenty of reprehensible things since, but they were not cowards and they were not just evil bastards. Read Gernet for clarification of their role if you like.

  • And let's face it - Jiang Jieshi was a bit of a dick. He was a gangster with Green Gang connections. He shot a rival whilst the man was in hospital. He murdered trade unionists and socialists in Shanghai in 1927, encouraged semi-fascist organisations like the Blueshirts and would probably have proclaimed himself emperor if he hadn't lost and been forced to Taiwan.

  • at least he shot up a bunch off Taiwanese separatists before he died

  • Taiwan: "a place of dreary exile." Interesting idea.

  • fucking communists

  • dont matter if it's communist or nationalist, there's only one chinese people.
