I think what can be a protective barrier for one, can be a prison for another. I don't mean the hijab itself, but the whole social apparatus which Islam IDEALLY provides women for their benefit. Yes Islam is for everyone, meaning there is not a specific racial group it is for. Islam shouldn't have to be forced on anyone though. No compulsion in religion. I agree if a girl wants to wear niqab, why not let her wear it? As long as she isn't forcing everyone to wear it along with her there should be no problem. For example, in Thailand when the Burmese invade, many women acted as soldiers defending their town fighting with men with swords. In the west, women have less of a roll in combat and men get respect from combat. Has nothing to do with religion.
